Acts 4

And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,

پطرس اور یوحنا لوگوں سے بات کر ہی رہے تھے کہ امام، بیت المُقدّس کے پہرے داروں کا کپتان اور صدوقی اُن کے پاس پہنچے۔

Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

وہ ناراض تھے کہ رسول عیسیٰ کے جی اُٹھنے کی منادی کر کے لوگوں کو مُردوں میں سے جی اُٹھنے کی تعلیم دے رہے ہیں۔

And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.

اُنہوں نے اُنہیں گرفتار کر کے اگلے دن تک جیل میں ڈال دیا، کیونکہ شام ہو چکی تھی۔

Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

لیکن جنہوں نے اُن کا پیغام سن لیا تھا اُن میں سے بہت سے لوگ ایمان لائے۔ یوں ایمان داروں میں مردوں کی تعداد بڑھ کر تقریباً 5,000 تک پہنچ گئی۔

And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,

اگلے دن یروشلم میں یہودی عدالتِ عالیہ کے سرداروں، بزرگوں اور شریعت کے علما کا اجلاس منعقد ہوا۔

And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

امامِ اعظم حنّا اور اِسی طرح کائفا، یوحنا، سکندر اور امامِ اعظم کے خاندان کے دیگر مرد بھی شامل تھے۔

And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?

اُنہوں نے دونوں کو اپنے درمیان کھڑا کر کے پوچھا، ”تم نے یہ کام کس قوت اور نام سے کیا؟“

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

پطرس نے روح القدس سے معمور ہو کر اُن سے کہا، ”قوم کے راہنماؤ اور بزرگو،

If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;

آج ہماری پوچھ گچھ کی جا رہی ہے کہ ہم نے معذور آدمی پر رحم کا اظہار کس کے وسیلے سے کیا کہ اُسے شفا مل گئی ہے۔

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

تو پھر آپ سب اور پوری قوم اسرائیل جان لے کہ یہ ناصرت کے عیسیٰ مسیح کے نام سے ہوا ہے، جسے آپ نے مصلوب کیا اور جسے اللہ نے مُردوں میں سے زندہ کر دیا۔ یہ آدمی اُسی کے وسیلے سے صحت پا کر یہاں آپ کے سامنے کھڑا ہے۔

This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

عیسیٰ وہ پتھر ہے جس کے بارے میں کلامِ مُقدّس میں لکھا ہے، ’جس پتھر کو مکان بنانے والوں نے رد کیا وہ کونے کا بنیادی پتھر بن گیا۔‘ اور آپ ہی نے اُسے رد کر دیا ہے۔

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

کسی دوسرے کے وسیلے سے نجات حاصل نہیں ہوتی، کیونکہ آسمان کے تلے ہم انسانوں کو کوئی اَور نام نہیں بخشا گیا جس کے وسیلے سے ہم نجات پا سکیں۔“

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

پطرس اور یوحنا کی باتیں سن کر لوگ حیران ہوئے کیونکہ وہ دلیری سے بات کر رہے تھے اگرچہ وہ نہ تو عالِم تھے، نہ اُنہوں نے شریعت کی خاص تعلیم پائی تھی۔ ساتھ ساتھ سننے والوں نے یہ بھی جان لیا کہ دونوں عیسیٰ کے ساتھی ہیں۔

And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

لیکن چونکہ وہ اپنی آنکھوں سے اُس آدمی کو دیکھ رہے تھے جو شفا پا کر اُن کے ساتھ کھڑا تھا اِس لئے وہ اِس کے خلاف کوئی بات نہ کر سکے۔

But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,

چنانچہ اُنہوں نے اُن دونوں کو اجلاس میں سے باہر جانے کو کہا اور آپس میں صلاح مشورہ کرنے لگے،

Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

”ہم اِن لوگوں کے ساتھ کیا سلوک کریں؟ بات واضح ہے کہ اُن کے ذریعے ایک الٰہی نشان دکھایا گیا ہے۔ اِس کا یروشلم کے تمام باشندوں کو علم ہوا ہے۔ ہم اِس کا انکار نہیں کر سکتے۔

But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.

لیکن لازم ہے کہ اُنہیں دھمکی دے کر حکم دیں کہ وہ کسی بھی شخص سے یہ نام لے کر بات نہ کریں، ورنہ یہ معاملہ قوم میں مزید پھیل جائے گا۔“

And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

چنانچہ اُنہوں نے دونوں کو بُلا کر حکم دیا کہ وہ آئندہ عیسیٰ کے نام سے نہ کبھی بولیں اور نہ تعلیم دیں۔

But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

لیکن پطرس اور یوحنا نے جواب میں کہا، ”آپ خود فیصلہ کر لیں، کیا یہ اللہ کے نزدیک ٹھیک ہے کہ ہم اُس کی نسبت آپ کی بات مانیں؟

For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

ممکن ہی نہیں کہ جو کچھ ہم نے دیکھ اور سن لیا ہے اُسے دوسروں کو سنانے سے باز رہیں۔“

So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

تب اجلاس کے ممبران نے دونوں کو مزید دھمکیاں دے کر چھوڑ دیا۔ وہ فیصلہ نہ کر سکے کہ کیا سزا دیں، کیونکہ تمام لوگ پطرس اور یوحنا کے اِس کام کی وجہ سے اللہ کی تمجید کر رہے تھے۔

For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.

کیونکہ جس آدمی کو معجزانہ طور پر شفا ملی تھی وہ چالیس سال سے زیادہ لنگڑا رہا تھا۔

And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.

اُن کی رِہائی کے بعد پطرس اور یوحنا اپنے ساتھیوں کے پاس واپس گئے اور سب کچھ سنایا جو راہنما اماموں اور بزرگوں نے اُنہیں بتایا تھا۔

And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

یہ سن کر تمام ایمان داروں نے مل کر اونچی آواز سے دعا کی، ”اے آقا، تُو نے آسمان و زمین اور سمندر کو اور جو کچھ اُن میں ہے خلق کیا ہے۔

Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

اور تُو نے اپنے خادم ہمارے باپ داؤد کے منہ سے روح القدس کی معرفت کہا، ’اقوام کیوں طیش میں آ گئی ہیں؟ اُمّتیں کیوں بےکار سازشیں کر رہی ہیں؟

The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

دنیا کے بادشاہ اُٹھ کھڑے ہوئے، حکمران رب اور اُس کے مسیح کے خلاف جمع ہو گئے ہیں۔‘

For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

اور واقعی یہی کچھ اِس شہر میں ہوا۔ ہیرودیس انتپاس، پنطیُس پیلاطس، غیریہودی اور یہودی سب تیرے مُقدّس خادم عیسیٰ کے خلاف جمع ہوئے جسے تُو نے مسح کیا تھا۔

For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

لیکن جو کچھ اُنہوں نے کیا وہ تُو نے اپنی قدرت اور مرضی سے پہلے ہی سے مقرر کیا تھا۔

And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

اے رب، اب اُن کی دھمکیوں پر غور کر۔ اپنے خادموں کو اپنا کلام سنانے کی بڑی دلیری عطا فرما۔

By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

اپنی قدرت کا اظہار کر تاکہ ہم تیرے مُقدّس خادم عیسیٰ کے نام سے شفا، الٰہی نشان اور معجزے دکھا سکیں۔“

And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

دعا کے اختتام پر وہ جگہ ہل گئی جہاں وہ جمع تھے۔ سب روح القدس سے معمور ہو گئے اور دلیری سے اللہ کا کلام سنانے لگے۔

And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

ایمان داروں کی پوری جماعت یک دل تھی۔ کسی نے بھی اپنی ملکیت کی کسی چیز کے بارے میں نہیں کہا کہ یہ میری ہے بلکہ اُن کی ہر چیز مشترکہ تھی۔

And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

اور رسول بڑے اختیار کے ساتھ خداوند عیسیٰ کے جی اُٹھنے کی گواہی دیتے رہے۔ اللہ کی بڑی مہربانی اُن سب پر تھی۔

Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

اُن میں سے کوئی بھی ضرورت مند نہیں تھا، کیونکہ جس کے پاس بھی زمینیں یا مکان تھے اُس نے اُنہیں فروخت کر کے رقم

And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

رسولوں کے پاؤں میں رکھ دی۔ یوں جمع شدہ پیسوں میں سے ہر ایک کو اُتنے دیئے جاتے جتنوں کی اُسے ضرورت ہوتی تھی۔

And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,

مثلاً یوسف نامی ایک آدمی تھا جس کا نام رسولوں نے برنباس (حوصلہ افزائی کا بیٹا) رکھا تھا۔ وہ لاوی قبیلے سے اور جزیرۂ قبرص کا رہنے والا تھا۔

Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

اُس نے اپنا ایک کھیت فروخت کر کے پیسے رسولوں کے پاؤں میں رکھ دیئے۔
