Acts 6

6:1

And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

اُن دنوں میں جب عیسیٰ کے شاگردوں کی تعداد بڑھتی گئی تو یونانی زبان بولنے والے ایمان دار عبرانی بولنے والے ایمان داروں کے بارے میں بڑبڑانے لگے۔ اُنہوں نے کہا، ”جب روزمرہ کا کھانا تقسیم ہوتا ہے تو ہماری بیواؤں کو نظرانداز کیا جاتا ہے۔“

6:2

Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

تب بارہ رسولوں نے شاگردوں کی پوری جماعت کو اکٹھا کر کے کہا، ”یہ ٹھیک نہیں کہ ہم اللہ کا کلام سکھانے کی خدمت کو چھوڑ کر کھانا تقسیم کرنے میں مصروف رہیں۔

6:3

Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

بھائیو، یہ بات پیشِ نظر رکھ کر اپنے میں سے سات آدمی چن لیں، جن کے نیک کردار کی آپ تصدیق کر سکتے ہیں اور جو روح القدس اور حکمت سے معمور ہیں۔ پھر ہم اُنہیں کھانا تقسیم کرنے کی یہ ذمہ داری دے کر

6:4

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

اپنا پورا وقت دعا اور کلام کی خدمت میں صَرف کر سکیں گے۔“

6:5

And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

یہ بات پوری جماعت کو پسند آئی اور اُنہوں نے سات آدمی چن لئے: ستفنس (جو ایمان اور روح القدس سے معمور تھا)، فلپّس، پرخرس، نیکانور، تیمون، پرمناس اور انطاکیہ کا نیکلاؤس۔ (نیکلاؤس غیریہودی تھا جس نے عیسیٰ پر ایمان لانے سے پہلے یہودی مذہب کو اپنا لیا تھا۔)

6:6

Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

اِن سات آدمیوں کو رسولوں کے سامنے پیش کیا گیا تو اُنہوں نے اِن پر ہاتھ رکھ کر دعا کی۔

6:7

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

یوں اللہ کا پیغام پھیلتا گیا۔ یروشلم میں ایمان داروں کی تعداد نہایت بڑھتی گئی اور بیت المُقدّس کے بہت سے امام بھی ایمان لے آئے۔

6:8

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

ستفنس اللہ کے فضل اور قوت سے معمور تھا اور لوگوں کے درمیان بڑے بڑے معجزے اور الٰہی نشان دکھاتا تھا۔

6:9

Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

ایک دن کچھ یہودی ستفنس سے بحث کرنے لگے۔ (وہ کرین، اسکندریہ، کلِکیہ اور صوبہ آسیہ کے رہنے والے تھے اور اُن کے عبادت خانے کا نام لبرطینیوں یعنی آزاد کئے گئے غلاموں کا عبادت خانہ تھا۔)
