Proverbs 4

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

हे मेरे पुत्रों, एक पिता की शिक्षा को सुनों उस पर ध्यान दो और तुम समझ बूझ पा लो!

For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

मैं तुम्हें गहन—गम्भीर ज्ञान देता हूँ। मेरी इस शिक्षा का त्याग तुम मत करना।

For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

जब मैं अपने पिता के घर एक बालक था और माता का अति कोमल एक मात्र शिशु था,

He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

मुझे सिखाते हुये उसने कहा था—मेरे वचन अपने पूर्ण मन से थामे रह। मेरे आदेश पाल तो तू जीवन रहेगा।

Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

तू बुद्धि प्राप्त कर और समझ बूझ प्राप्त कर! मेरे वचन मत भूल और उनसे मत डिग।

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

बुद्धि मत त्याग वह तेरी रक्षा करेगी, उससे प्रेम कर वह तेरा ध्यान रखेगी।

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

“बुद्धि का आरम्भ ये है: तू बुद्धि प्राप्त कर, चाहे सब कुछ दे कर भी तू उसे प्राप्त कर! तू समझबूझ प्राप्त कर।

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

तू उसे महत्व दे, वह तुझे ऊँचा उठायेगी, उसे तू गले लगा ले वह तेरा मान बढ़ायेगी।

She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

वह तेरे सिर पर शोभा की माला धरेगी और वह तुझे एक वैभव का मुकुट देगी।”

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

सुन, हे मेरे पुत्र। जो मैं कहता हूँ तू उसे ग्रहण कर! तू अनगिनत सालों साल जीवित रहेगा।

I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

मैं तुझे बुद्धि के मार्ग की राह दिखाता हूँ, और सरल पथों पर अगुवाई करता हूँ।

When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

जब तू आगे बढ़ेगा तेरे चरण बाधा नहीं पायेंगे, और जब तू दौड़ेगा ठोकर नहीं खायेगा।

Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

शिक्षा को थामे रह, उसे तू मत छोड़। इसकी रखवाली कर। यही तेरा जीवन है।

Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

तू दुष्टों के पथ पर चरण मत रख या पापी जनों की राह पर मत चल।

Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

तू इससे बचता रह, इसपर कदम मत बढ़ा। इससे तू मुड़ जा। तू अपनी राह चल।

For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

वे बुरे काम किये बिना सो नहीं पाते। वे नींद खो बैठते हैं जब तक किसी को नहीं गिराते।

For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

वे तो बस सदा नीचता की रोटी खाते और हिंसा का दाखमधु पीते हैं।

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

किन्तु धर्मी का पथ वैसा होता है जैसी प्रात: किरण होती है। जो दिन की परिपूर्णता तक अपने प्रकाश में बढ़ती ही चली जाती है।

The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

किन्तु पापी का मार्ग सघन, अन्धकार जैसा होता है। वे नहीं जान पाते कि किससे टकराते हैं।

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

हे मेरे पुत्र, जो कुछ मैं कहता हूँ उस पर ध्यान दे। मेरे वचनों को तू कान लगा कर सुन।

Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

उन्हें अपनी दृष्टि से ओझल मत होने दे। अपने हृदय पर तू उन्हें धरे रह।

For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

क्योंकि जो उन्हें पाते हैं उनके लिये वे जीवन बन जाते हैं और वे एक पुरुष की समपूर्ण काया का स्वास्थ्य बनते हैं।

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

सबसे बड़ी बात यह है कि तू अपने विचारों के बारे में सावधान रह। क्योंकि तेरे विचार जीवन को नियंत्रण में रखते हैं।

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

तू अपने मुख से कुटिलता को दूर रख। तू अपने होठों से भ्रष्ट बात दूर रख।

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

तेरी आँखों के आगे सदा सीधा मार्ग रहे और तेरी टकटकी आगे ही लगी रहें।

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

अपने पैरों के लिये तू सीधा मार्ग बना। बस तू उन राहों पर चल जो निश्चित सुरक्षित हैं।

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

दाहिने को अथवा बायें को मत डिग। तू अपने चरणों को बुराई से रोके रह।
