Proverbs 4

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

Poslouchejte, synové, učení otcova, a pozorujte, abyste poznali rozumnost.

For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

Nebo naučení dobré dávám vám, neopouštějtež zákona mého.

For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

Když jsem byl syn u otce svého mladičký, a jediný při matce své,

He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

On vyučoval mne a říkal mi: Ať se chopí výmluvností mých srdce tvé, ostříhej přikázaní mých, a živ budeš.

Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

Nabuď moudrosti, nabuď rozumnosti; nezapomínej, ani se uchyluj od řečí úst mých.

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

Neopouštějž jí, a bude tě ostříhati; miluj ji, a zachová tě.

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Předně moudrosti, moudrosti nabývej, a za všecko jmění své zjednej rozumnost.

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

Vyvyšuj ji, a zvýšíť tě; poctí tě, když ji přijmeš.

She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

Přidá hlavě tvé příjemnosti, korunou krásnou obdaří tě.

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

Slyš, synu můj, a přijmi řeči mé, a tak rozmnoží se léta života tvého.

I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

Cestě moudrosti učím tě, vedu tě stezkami přímými.

When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

Když choditi budeš, nebude ssoužen krok tvůj, a poběhneš-li, neustrčíš se.

Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

Chopiž se učení, nepouštěj, ostříhej ho, nebo ono jest život tvůj.

Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

Na stezku bezbožných nevcházej, a nekráčej cestou zlostníků.

Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

Opusť ji, nechoď po ní, uchyl se od ní, a pomiň jí.

For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

Neboť nespí, leč zlost provedou; anobrž zahánín bývá sen jejich, dokudž ku pádu nepřivodí,

For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

Proto že jedí chléb bezbožnosti, a víno loupeží pijí.

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

Ale stezka spravedlivých jako světlo jasné, kteréž rozmáhá se, a svítí až do pravého dne.

The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

Cesta pak bezbožných jako mrákota; nevědí, na čem se ustrčiti mohou.

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

Synu můj, slov mých pozoruj, k řečem mým nakloň ucha svého.

Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

Nechať neodcházejí od očí tvých, ostříhej jich u prostřed srdce svého.

For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

Nebo životem jsou těm, kteříž je nalézají, i všemu tělu jejich lékařstvím.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Přede vším, čehož se stříci sluší, ostříhej srdce svého, nebo z něho pochází život.

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

Odlož od sebe převrácenost úst, a zlost rtů vzdal od sebe.

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

Oči tvé ať k dobrým věcem patří, a víčka tvá ať přímě hledí před tebou.

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

Zvaž stezku noh svých, a všecky cesty tvé ať jsou spraveny.

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

Neuchyluj se na pravo ani na levo, odvrať nohu svou od zlého.
