Proverbs 28

L’empio fugge senza che alcuno lo perseguiti, ma il giusto se ne sta sicuro come un leone.

The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

Per i suoi misfatti i capi d’un paese son numerosi, ma, con un uomo intelligente e pratico delle cose, l’ordine dura.

For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.

Un povero che opprime i miseri è come una pioggia che devasta e non dà pane.

A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

Quelli che abbandonano la legge, lodano gli empi; ma quelli che l’osservano, fan loro la guerra.

They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

Gli uomini dati al male non comprendono ciò ch’è giusto, ma quelli che cercano l’Eterno comprendono ogni cosa.

Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

Meglio il povero che cammina nella sua integrità, del perverso che cammina nella doppiezza, ed è ricco.

Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

Chi osserva la legge è un figliuolo intelligente, ma il compagno dei ghiottoni fa vergogna a suo padre.

Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

Chi accresce i suoi beni con gl’interessi e l’usura, li aduna per colui che ha pietà dei poveri.

He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

Se uno volge altrove gli orecchi per non udire la legge, la sua stessa preghiera è un abominio.

He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Chi induce i giusti a battere una mala via cadrà egli stesso nella fossa che ha scavata; ma gli uomini integri erediteranno il bene.

Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

Il ricco si reputa savio, ma il povero ch’è intelligente, lo scruta.

The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

Quando i giusti trionfano, la gloria è grande; ma, quando gli empi s’innalzano, la gente si nasconde.

When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

Chi copre le sue trasgressioni non prospererà, ma chi le confessa e le abbandona otterrà misericordia.

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Beato l’uomo ch’è sempre timoroso! ma chi indura il suo cuore cadrà nella sfortuna.

Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

Un empio che domina un popolo povero, è un leone ruggente, un orso affamato.

As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

Il principe senza prudenza fa molte estorsioni, ma chi odia il lucro disonesto prolunga i suoi giorni.

The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

L’uomo su cui pesa un omicidio, fuggirà fino alla fossa; nessuno lo fermi!

A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

Chi cammina integramente sarà salvato, ma il perverso che batte doppie vie, cadrà a un tratto.

Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

Chi lavora la sua terra avrà abbondanza di pane; ma chi va dietro ai fannulloni avrà abbondanza di miseria.

He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

L’uomo fedele sarà colmato di benedizioni, ma chi ha fretta d’arricchire non rimarrà impunito.

A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

Aver de’ riguardi personali non è bene; per un pezzo di pane l’uomo talvolta diventa trasgressore.

To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

L’uomo invidioso ha fretta d’arricchire, e non sa che gli piomberà addosso la miseria.

He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

Chi riprende qualcuno gli sarà alla fine più accetto di chi lo lusinga con le sue parole.

He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

Chi ruba a suo padre e a sua madre e dice: "Non è un delitto!", è compagno del dissipatore.

Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

Chi ha l’animo avido fa nascere contese, ma chi confida nell’Eterno sarà saziato.

He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

Chi confida nel proprio cuore è uno stolto, ma chi cammina saviamente scamperà.

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

Chi dona al povero non sarà mai nel bisogno, ma colui che chiude gli occhi, sarà coperto di maledizioni.

He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

Quando gli empi s’innalzano, la gente si nasconde; ma quando periscono, si moltiplicano i giusti.

When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.
