Proverbs 13

Il figliuol savio ascolta l’istruzione di suo padre, ma il beffardo non ascolta rimproveri.

A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

Per il frutto delle sue labbra uno gode del bene, ma il desiderio dei perfidi è la violenza.

A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

Chi custodisce la sua bocca preserva la propria vita; chi apre troppo le labbra va incontro alla rovina.

He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

L’anima del pigro desidera, e non ha nulla, ma l’anima dei diligenti sarà soddisfatta appieno.

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

Il giusto odia la menzogna, ma l’empio getta sugli altri vituperio ed onta.

A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

La giustizia protegge l’uomo che cammina nella integrità, ma l’empietà atterra il peccatore.

Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

C’è chi fa il ricco e non ha nulla; c’è chi fa il povero e ha di gran beni.

There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

La ricchezza d’un uomo serve come riscatto della sua vita, ma il povero non ode mai minacce.

The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

La luce dei giusti è gaia, ma la lampada degli empi si spegne.

The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

Dall’orgoglio non vien che contesa, ma la sapienza è con chi dà retta ai consigli.

Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

La ricchezza male acquistata va scemando, ma chi accumula a poco a poco l’aumenta.

Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

La speranza differita fa languire il cuore, ma il desiderio adempiuto è un albero di vita.

Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

Chi sprezza la parola si costituisce, di fronte ad essa, debitore, ma chi rispetta il comandamento sarà ricompensato.

Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

L’insegnamento del savio è una fonte di vita per schivare le insidie della morte.

The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Buon senno procura favore, ma il procedere dei perfidi è duro.

Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

Ogni uomo accorto agisce con conoscenza, ma l’insensato fa sfoggio di follia.

Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

Il messo malvagio cade in sciagure, ma l’ambasciatore fedele reca guarigione.

A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

Miseria e vergogna a chi rigetta la correzione, ma chi dà retta alla riprensione è onorato.

Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

Il desiderio adempiuto è dolce all’anima, ma agl’insensati fa orrore l’evitare il male.

The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

Chi va coi savi diventa savio, ma il compagno degl’insensati diventa cattivo.

He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Il male perseguita i peccatori ma il giusto è ricompensato col bene.

Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

L’uomo buono lascia una eredità ai figli de’ suoi figli, ma la ricchezza del peccatore è riserbata al giusto.

A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

Il campo lavorato dal povero dà cibo in abbondanza, ma v’è chi perisce per mancanza di equità.

Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

Chi risparmia la verga odia il suo figliuolo, ma chi l’ama, lo corregge per tempo.

He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Il giusto ha di che mangiare a sazietà, ma il ventre degli empi manca di cibo.

The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
