Proverbs 13

समझदार पुत्र निज पिता की शिक्षा पर कान देता, किन्तु उच्छृंखल झिड़की पर भी ध्यान नहीं देता।

A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

सज्जन अपनी वाणी के सुफल का आनन्द लेता है, किन्तु दुर्जन तो सदा हिंसा चाहता हैं।

A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

जो अपनी वाणी के प्रति चौकसी रहता है, वह अपने जीवन की रक्षा करता है। पर जो गाल बजाता रहता है, अपने विनाश को प्राप्त करता है।

He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

आलसी मनोरथ पालता है पर कुछ नहीं पाता, किन्तु परिश्रमी की जितनी भी इच्छा है, पूर्ण हो जाती है।

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

धर्मी उससे घृणा करता है, जो झूठ है जबकि दुष्ट लज्जा और अपमान लाते हैं।

A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

सच्चरित्र जन की रक्षक नेकी है जबकि बदी पापी को, उलट फेंक देती है।

Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

एक व्यक्ति जो धनी का दिखावा करता है; किन्तु उसके पास कुछ भी नहीं होता है। और एक अन्य जो दरिद्र का सा आचरण करता किन्तु उसके पास बहुत धन होता है।

There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

धनवान को अपना जीवन बचाने उसका धन फिरौती में लगाना पड़ेगा किन्तु दीन जन ऐसे किसी धमकी के भय से मुक्त है।

The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

धर्मी का तेज बहुत चमचमाता किन्तु दुष्ट का दीया बुझा दिया जाता है।

The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

अहंकार केवल झगड़ों को पनपाता है किन्तु जो सम्मति की बात मानता है, उनमें ही विवेक पाया जाता है।

Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

बेइमानी का धन यूँ ही धूल हो जाता है किन्तु जो बूँद—बूँद करके धन संचित करता है, उसका धन बढ़ता है।

Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

आशा हीनता मन को उदास करती है, किन्तु कामना की पूर्ति प्रसन्नता होती है।

Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

जो जन शिक्षा का अनादर करता है, उसको इसका मूल्य चुकाना पड़ेगा। किन्तु जो शिक्षा का आदर करता है, वह तो इसका प्रतिफल पाता है।

Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

विवेक की शिक्षा जीवन का उद्गम स्रोत है, वह लोगों को मौत के फंदे से बचाती है।

The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

अच्छी भली समझ बूझ कृपा दृष्टि अर्जित करती, पर विश्वासहीन का जीवन कठिन होता है।

Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

हर एक विवेकी ज्ञानपूर्वक काम करता, किन्तु एक मूर्ख निज मूर्खता प्रकट करता है।

Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

कुटिल सन्देशवाहक विपत्ति में पड़ता है, किन्तु विश्वसनीय दूत शांति देता है।

A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

ऐसा मनुष्य जो शिक्षा की उपेक्षा करता है, उसपर लज्जा और दरिद्रता आ पड़ती है, किन्तु जो शिक्षा पर कान देता है, वह आदर पाता है।

Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

किसी इच्छा का पूरा हो जाना मन को मधुर लगता है किन्तु दोष का त्याग, मूर्खो को नहीं भाता है।

The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

बुद्धिमान की संगति, व्यक्ति को बुद्धिमान बनाता है। किन्तु मूर्खो का साथी नाश हो जाता है।

He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

दुर्भाग्य पापियों का पीछा करता रहता है किन्तु नेक प्रतिफल में खुशहाली पाते हैं।

Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

सज्जन अपने नाती—पोतों को धन सम्पति छोड़ता है जबकि पापी का धन धर्मियों के निमित्त संचित होता रहता है।

A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

दीन जन का खेत भरपूर फसल देता है, किन्तु अन्याय उसे बुहार ले जाता है।

Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

जो अपने पुत्र को कभी नहीं दण्डित करता, वह अपने पुत्र से प्रेम नहीं रखता है। किन्तु जो प्रेम करता निज पुत्र से, वह तो उसे यत्न से अनुशासित करता है।

He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

धर्मी जन, मन से खाते और पूर्ण तृप्त होते हैं किन्तु दुष्ट का पेट तो कभी नहीं भरता है।

The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
