Proverbs 25

ذیل میں سلیمان کی مزید کہاوتیں درج ہیں جنہیں یہوداہ کے بادشاہ حِزقیاہ کے لوگوں نے جمع کیا۔

These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

اللہ کا جلال اِس میں ظاہر ہوتا ہے کہ وہ معاملہ پوشیدہ رکھتا ہے، بادشاہ کا جلال اِس میں کہ وہ معاملے کی تحقیق کرتا ہے۔

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

جتنا آسمان بلند اور زمین گہری ہے اُتنا ہی بادشاہوں کے دل کا کھوج نہیں لگایا جا سکتا۔

The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

چاندی سے مَیل دُور کرو تو سنار برتن بنانے میں کامیاب ہو جائے گا،

Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

بےدین کو بادشاہ کے حضور سے دُور کرو تو اُس کا تخت راستی کی بنیاد پر قائم رہے گا۔

Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

بادشاہ کے حضور اپنے آپ پر فخر نہ کر، نہ عزت کی اُس جگہ پر کھڑا ہو جا جو بزرگوں کے لئے مخصوص ہے۔

Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

اِس سے پہلے کہ شرفا کے سامنے ہی تیری بےعزتی ہو جائے بہتر ہے کہ تُو پیچھے کھڑا ہو جا اور بعد میں کوئی تجھ سے کہے، ”یہاں سامنے آ جائیں۔“ جو کچھ تیری آنکھوں نے دیکھا اُسے عدالت میں پیش کرنے میں

For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

جلدبازی نہ کر، کیونکہ تُو کیا کرے گا اگر تیرا پڑوسی تیرے معاملے کو جھٹلا کر تجھے شرمندہ کرے؟

Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

عدالت میں اپنے پڑوسی سے لڑتے وقت وہ بات بیان نہ کر جو کسی نے پوشیدگی میں تیرے سپرد کی،

Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

ایسا نہ ہو کہ سننے والا تیری بےعزتی کرے۔ تب تیری بدنامی کبھی نہیں مٹے گی۔

Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

وقت پر موزوں بات چاندی کے برتن میں سونے کے سیب کی مانند ہے۔

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

دانش مند کی نصیحت قبول کرنے والے کے لئے سونے کی بالی اور خالص سونے کے گلوبند کی مانند ہے۔

As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

قابلِ اعتماد قاصد بھیجنے والے کے لئے فصل کاٹتے وقت برف کی ٹھنڈک جیسا ہے، اِس طرح وہ اپنے مالک کی جان کو تر و تازہ کر دیتا ہے۔

As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

جو شیخی مار کر تحفوں کا وعدہ کرے لیکن کچھ نہ دے وہ اُن طوفانی بادلوں کی مانند ہے جو برسے بغیر گزر جاتے ہیں۔

Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

حکمران کو تحمل سے قائل کیا جا سکتا، اور نرم زبان ہڈیاں توڑنے کے قابل ہے۔

By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

اگر شہد مل جائے تو ضرورت سے زیادہ مت کھا، حد سے زیادہ کھانے سے تجھے قَے آئے گی۔

Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

اپنے پڑوسی کے گھر میں بار بار جانے سے اپنے قدموں کو روک، ورنہ وہ تنگ آ کر تجھ سے نفرت کرنے لگے گا۔

Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

جو اپنے پڑوسی کے خلاف جھوٹی گواہی دے وہ ہتھوڑے، تلوار اور تیز تیر جیسا نقصان دہ ہے۔

A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

مصیبت کے وقت بےوفا پر اعتبار کرنا خراب دانت یا ڈگمگاتے پاؤں کی طرح تکلیف دہ ہے۔

Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

دُکھتے دل کے لئے گیت گانا اُتنا ہی غیرموزوں ہے جتنا سردیوں کے موسم میں قمیص اُتارنا یا سوڈے پر سرکہ ڈالنا۔

As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

اگر تیرا دشمن بھوکا ہو تو اُسے کھانا کھلا، اگر پیاسا ہو تو پانی پلا۔

If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

کیونکہ ایسا کرنے سے تُو اُس کے سر پر جلتے ہوئے کوئلوں کا ڈھیر لگائے گا، اور رب تجھے اجر دے گا۔

For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

جس طرح کالے بادل لانے والی ہَوا بارش پیدا کرتی ہے اُسی طرح باتونی کی چپکے سے کی گئی باتوں سے لوگوں کے منہ بگڑ جاتے ہیں۔

The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

جھگڑالو بیوی کے ساتھ ایک ہی گھر میں رہنے کی نسبت چھت کے کسی کونے میں گزارہ کرنا بہتر ہے۔

It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

دُوردراز ملک کی خوش خبری پیاسے گلے میں ٹھنڈا پانی ہے۔

As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

جو راست باز بےدین کے سامنے ڈگمگانے لگے، وہ گدلا چشمہ اور آلودہ کنواں ہے۔

A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

زیادہ شہد کھانا اچھا نہیں، اور نہ ہی زیادہ اپنی عزت کی فکر کرنا۔

It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

جو اپنے آپ پر قابو نہ پا سکے وہ اُس شہر کی مانند ہے جس کی فصیل ڈھا دی گئی ہے۔

He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
