Job 4

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

फिर तेमान के एलीपज ने उत्तर दिया:

If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?

“यदि कोई व्यक्ति तुझसे कुछ कहना चाहे तो क्या उससे तू बेचैन होगा? मुझे कहना ही होगा!

Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

हे अय्यूब, तूने बहुत से लोगों को शिक्षा दी और दुर्बल हाथों को तूने शक्ति दी।

Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

जो लोग लड़खड़ा रहे थे तेरे शब्दों ने उन्हें ढाढ़स बंधाया था। तूने निर्बल पैरों को अपने प्रोत्साहन से सबल किया।

But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

किन्तु अब तुझ पर विपत्ति का पहाड़ टूट पड़ा है और तेरा साहस टूट गया है। विपदा की मार तुझ पर पड़ी और तू व्याकुल हो उठा।

Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

तू परमेश्वर की उपासना करता है, सो उस पर भरोसा रख। तू एक भला व्यक्ति है सो इसी को तू अपनी आशा बना ले।

Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

अय्यूब, इस बात को ध्यान में रख कि कोई भी सज्जन कभी नहीं नष्ट किये गये। निर्दोष कभी भी नष्ट नहीं किया गया है।

Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

मैंने ऐसे लोगों को देखा है जो कष्टों को बढ़ाते हैं और जो जीवन को कठिन करते हैं। किन्तु वे सदा ही दण्ड भोगते हैं।

By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.

परमेश्वर का दण्ड उन लोगों को मार डालता है और उसका क्रोध उन्हें नष्ट करता है।

The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.

दुर्जन सिंह की तरह गुरर्ते और दहाड़ते हैं, किन्तु परमेश्वर उन दुर्जनों को चुप कराता है। परमेश्वर उनके दाँत तोड़ देता है।

The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.

बुरे लोग उन सिंहों के समान होते हैं जिन के पास शिकार के लिये कुछ भी नहीं होता। वे मर जाते हैं और उनके बच्चे इधर—उधर बिखर जाते है, और वे मिट जाते हैं।

Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.

“मेरे पास एक सन्देश चुपचाप पहुँचाया गया, और मेरे कानों में उसकी भनक पड़ी।

In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,

जिस तरह रात का बुरा स्वप्न नींद उड़ा देता हैं, ठीक उसी प्रकार मेरे साथ में हुआ है।

Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.

मैं भयभीत हुआ और काँपने लगा। मेरी सब हड्‌डियाँ हिल गई।

Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:

मेरे सामने से एक आत्मा जैसी गुजरी जिससे मेरे शरीर में रोंगटे खड़े हो गये।

It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,

वह आत्मा चुपचाप ठहर गया किन्तु मैं नहीं जान सका कि वह क्या था। मेरी आँखों के सामने एक आकृति खड़ी थी, और वहाँ सन्नाटा सा छाया था। फिर मैंने एक बहुत ही शान्त ध्वनि सुनी।

Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

“मनुष्य परमेश्वर से अधिक उचित नहीं हो सकता। अपने रचयिता से मनुष्य अधिक पवित्र नहीं हो सकता।

Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:

परमेश्वर अपने स्वर्गीय सेवकों तक पर भरोसा नहीं कर सकता। परमेश्वर को अपने दूतों तक में दोष मिल जातें हैं।

How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?

सो मनुष्य तो और भी अधिक गया गुजरा है। मनुष्य तो कच्चे मिट्टी के घरौंदों में रहते हैं। इन मिट्टी के घरौंदों की नींव धूल में रखी गई हैं। इन लोगों को उससे भी अधिक आसानी से मसल कर मार दिया जाता है, जिस तरह भुनगों को मसल कर मारा जाता है।

They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.

लोग भोर से सांझ के बीच में मर जाते हैं किन्तु उन पर ध्यान तक कोई नहीं देता है। वे मर जाते हैं और सदा के लिये चले जाते हैं।

Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.

उनके तम्बूओं की रस्सियाँ उखाड़ दी जाती हैं, और ये लोग विवेक के बिना मर जाते हैं।”
