Proverbs 2

Figliuol mio, se ricevi le mie parole e serbi con cura i miei comandamenti,

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

prestando orecchio alla sapienza e inclinando il cuore all’intelligenza;

So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

sì, se chiami il discernimento e rivolgi la tua voce all’intelligenza,

Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

se la cerchi come l’argento e ti dài a scavarla come un tesoro,

If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

Allora intenderai il timor dell’Eterno, e troverai la conoscenza di Dio.

Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

Poiché l’Eterno dà la sapienza; dalla sua bocca procedono la scienza e l’intelligenza.

For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Egli tiene in serbo per gli uomini retti un aiuto potente, uno scudo per quelli che camminano integramente,

He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

affin di proteggere i sentieri della equità e di custodire la via dei suoi fedeli.

He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

Allora intenderai la giustizia, l’equità, la rettitudine, tutte le vie del bene.

Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

Perché la sapienza t’entrerà nel cuore, e la scienza sarà gradevole all’anima tua;

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

la riflessione veglierà su te, e l’intelligenza ti proteggerà;

Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

ti scamperà così dalla via malvagia, dalla gente che parla di cose perverse,

To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

da quelli che lasciano i sentieri della rettitudine per camminare nella via delle tenebre,

Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

che godono a fare il male e si compiacciono delle perversità del malvagio,

Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

che seguono sentieri storti e battono vie tortuose.

Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

Ti scamperà dalla donna adultera, dalla infedele che usa parole melate,

To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

che ha abbandonato il compagno della sua giovinezza e ha dimenticato il patto del suo Dio.

Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

Poiché la sua casa pende verso la morte, e i suoi sentieri menano ai defunti.

For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

Nessuno di quelli che vanno da lei ne ritorna, nessuno riprende i sentieri della vita.

None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

Così camminerai per la via dei buoni, e rimarrai nei sentieri dei giusti.

That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

Ché gli uomini retti abiteranno la terra, e quelli che sono integri vi rimarranno;

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

ma gli empi saranno sterminati di sulla terra e gli sleali ne saranno divelti.

But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
