Genesis 11

Ja koko maailmalla oli yhtäläinen kieli ja yhtäläinen puheenparsi.

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

Ja koska he matkustivat idästä, löysivät he kedon Sinearin maalla, ja asuivat siellä.

And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

Ja sanoivat keskenänsä: käykäämme tiilejä tekemään ja polttamaan. Ja heillä olivat tiilit kivein siassa, ja maan pihka siteeksi.

And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

Ja sanoivat: käykäämme, rakentakaamme meillemme kaupunki ja torni, joka taivaaseen ulottuisi, tehdäksemme meillemme nimeä; ettei meitä hajoitettaisi kaikkiin maihin.

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

Silloin Herra astui alas katsomaan kaupunkia ja tornia, jota ihmisten lapset rakensivat.

And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

Ja Herra sanoi: katso, se on yhtäläinen kansa, ja yhtäläinen kieli on kaikkein heidän seassansa, ja he ovat ruvenneet tätä tekemään: ja nyt ei heitä taideta estettää mistään, kuin he ovat aikoneet tehdä.

And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

Käykäämme, astukaamme alas ja sekoittakaamme siellä heidän kielensä; niin ettei kenkään ymmärtäisi toisensa kieltä.

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

Ja niin Herra hajoitti heidät sieltä kaikkiin maihin; ja he lakkasivat sitä kaupunkia rakentamasta.

So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

Ja sentähden kutsuttiin hänen nimensä Babel: sillä siellä Herra sekoitti koko maan kielen: ja Herra hajoitti heidät sieltä kaikkiin maihin.

Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Nämät ovat Semin sukukunnat: Sem oli sadan ajastajan vanha, ja siitti Arphaksadin, kaksi ajastaikaa vedenpaisumisen jälkeen.

These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

Arphaksad oli viidenneljättäkymmentä ajastajan vanha, ja siitti Salan.

And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:

Ja eli sitte neljäsataa ja kolme ajastaikaa, ja siitti poikia ja tyttäriä.

And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

Sala oli kolmenkymmenen ajastajan vanha, ja siitti Eberin.

And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:

Ja eli sitte neljäsataa ja kolme ajastaikaa, ja siitti poikia ja tyttäriä.

And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

Eber oli neljänneljättäkymmentä ajastajan vanha, ja siitti Pelegin.

And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:

Ja eli sitte neljäsataa ja kolmekymmentä ajastaikaa, ja siitti poikia ja tyttäriä.

And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

Peleg oli kolmenkymmenen ajastajan vanha, ja siitti Regun.

And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:

Ja eli sitte kaksisataa ja yhdeksän ajastaikaa, ja siitti poikia ja tyttäriä.

And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

Regu oli kahdenneljättäkymmentä ajastajan vanha, ja siitti Serugin.

And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:

Ja eli sitte kaksisataa ja seitsemän ajastaikaa, ja siitti poikia ja tyttäriä.

And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

Serug oli kolmenkymmenen ajastajan vanha ja siitti Nahorin.

And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

Ja eli sitte kaksisataa ajastaikaa, ja siitti poikia ja tyttäriä.

And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

Nahor oli yhdeksänkolmattakymmentä ajastajan vanha, ja siitti Taran.

And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:

Ja eli sitte sata ja yhdeksäntoistakymmentä ajastaikaa, ja siitti poikia ja tyttäriä.

And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

Tara oli seitsemänkymmenen ajastajan vanha, ja siitti Abramin, Nahorin ja Haranin.

And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

Nämät ovat Taran sukukunnat: Tara siitti Abramin, Nahorin ja Haranin. Haran siitti Lotin.

Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

Ja Haran kuoli isänsä, Taran edessä, isänsä maalla Kaldean Uurissa.

And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

Silloin Abram ja Nahor ottivat heillensä emännät: Abramin emännän nimi oli Sarai, ja Nahorin emännän nimi oli Milka, Haranin tytär, joka oli Milkan ja Jiskan isä.

And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

Mutta Sarai oli hedelmätöin, eikä ollut hänellä lasta.

But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

Ja Tara otti poikansa Abramin ja Lotin Haranin pojan, poikansa pojan, ja miniänsä Sarain, poikansa Abramin emännän, ja he läksivät ulos ynnä Kaldean Uurista menemään Kanaanin maalle, ja tulivat Haraniin, ja asuivat siellä.

And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

Ja Tara oli kahdensadan ja viiden ajastajan vanha ja kuoli Haranissa.

And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
