Proverbs 22

Ліпше добре ім'я за багатство велике, і ліпша милість за срібло та золото.

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

Багатий та вбогий стрічаються, Господь їх обох створив.

The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

Мудрий бачить лихе і ховається, а безумні йдуть і караються.

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Заплата покори і страху Господнього, це багатство, і слава, й життя.

By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

Тернина й пастки на дорозі лукавого, а хто стереже свою душу, відійде далеко від них.

Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Привчай юнака до дороги його, і він, як постаріється, не уступиться з неї.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Багатий панує над бідними, а боржник раб позичальника.

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

Хто сіє кривду, той жатиме лихо, а бич гніву його покінчиться.

He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

Хто доброго ока, той поблагословлений буде, бо дає він убогому з хліба свого.

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Глумливого вижени, й вийде з ним сварка, і суперечка та ганьба припиняться.

Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

Хто чистість серця кохає, той має хороше на устах, і другом йому буде цар.

He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

Очі Господа оберігають знання, а лукаві слова Він відкине.

The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

Лінивий говорить: На вулиці лев, серед майдану я буду забитий!

The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

Уста коханки яма глибока: на кого Господь має гнів, той впадає туди.

The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

До юнакового серця глупота прив'язана, та різка картання віддалить від нього її.

Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

Хто тисне убогого, щоб собі збагатитись, і хто багачеві дає, той певно збідніє.

He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

Нахили своє вухо, і послухай слів мудрих, і серце зверни до мого знання,

Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

бо гарне воно, коли будеш ти їх у своєму нутрі стерегти, хай стануть на устах твоїх вони разом!

For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

Щоб надія твоя була в Господі, я й сьогодні навчаю тебе.

That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

Хіба ж не писав тобі тричі з порадами та із знанням,

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

щоб тобі завідомити правду, правдиві слова, щоб ти істину міг відповісти тому, хто тебе запитає.

That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

Не грабуй незаможнього, бо він незаможній, і не тисни убогого в брамі,

Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

бо Господь за їхню справу судитиметься, і грабіжникам їхнім ограбує Він душу.

For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

Не дружись із чоловіком гнівливим, і не ходи із людиною лютою,

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

щоб доріг її ти не навчився, і тенета не взяв для своєї душі.

Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

Не будь серед тих, хто поруку дає, серед тих, хто поручується за борги:

Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

коли ти не матимеш чим заплатити, нащо візьмуть з-під тебе постелю твою?

If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

Не пересувай вікової границі, яку встановили батьки твої.

Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

Ти бачив людину, моторну в занятті своїм? Вона перед царями спокійно стоятиме, та не встоїть вона перед простими.

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
