Teć są przypowieści Salomonowe, które zebrali mężowie Ezechyjasza, króla Judzkiego.

These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

Sława to Boża, taić sprawę; ale sława królów, wywiadywać się rzeczy.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

Wysokość niebios, i głębokość ziemi, i serce królów nie są doścignione.

The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

Odejm zużelicę od srebra, a wynijdzie odlewającemu naczynie kosztowne.

Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

Odejm niezbożnika od oblicza królewskiego, a umocni się w sprawiedliwości stolica jego.

Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

Nie udawaj się za zacnego przed królem, a na miejscu wielmożnych nie stawaj;

Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

Bo lepiej jest, iż ci rzeką: Postąp sam: a niżeliby cię zniżyć miano przed księciem; co widują oczy twoje.

For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

Nie pokwapiaj się do swaru, byś snać na ostatek nie wiedział, co masz czynić, gdyby cię zawstydził bliźni twój.

Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

Prowadź do końca sprawę swoję z przyjacielem twoim, a tajemnicy drugiego nie objawiaj;

Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

By cię snać nie zelżył ten, co cię słucha, a niesława twoja zostałaby na tobie.

Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

Jakie jest jabłko złote z wyrzezaniem srebrnem, takieć jest słowo do rzeczy powiedziane.

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Ten, który mądrze napomina, jest u tego, co słucha, jako nausznica złota, i klejnot z szczerego złota.

As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

Jako zimno śnieżne czasu żniwa: tak poseł wierny tym, którzy go posyłają; bo dusze panów swych ochładza.

As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

Powściągnij nogę twoję od domu bliźniego twego, by snać będąc ciebie syt, nie miał cię w nienawiści.

Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

Każdy, kto mówi fałszywe świadectwo przeciw bliźniemu swemu, jest jako młot, i miecz, i strzała ostra.

A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

Ufność w człowieku przewrotnym jest w dzień ucisku jako ząb wyłamany i noga wywiniona.

Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

Jako ten, który zewłoczy odzienie czasu zimy, albo leje ocet na saletrę, taki jest ten, który śpiewa pieśni sercu smutnemu.

As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

Jeźliżeby łaknął ten, co cię nienawidzi, nakarm go chlebem; a jeźliby pragnął, daj mu się napić wody;

If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

Bo węgle rozpalone zgromadzisz na głowę jego, a Pan ci nagrodzi.

For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

Jako wiatr północny deszcz przynosi: tak przynosi twarz gniewliwą język uszczypliwy.

Jako źródło nogami pomącone, albo zdrój zepsuty: tak sprawiedliwy, który upada przed niezbożnym.

A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

Jako jeść wiele miodu nie jest rzecz dobra: tak szukanie własnej sławy jest niesławne.

It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

Mąż, który nie ma mocy nad duchem swoim, jest jako miasto rozwalone bez muru.

He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
