Proverbs 22

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

نیک نام بڑی دولت سے قیمتی، اور منظورِ نظر ہونا سونے چاندی سے بہتر ہے۔

The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

امیر اور غریب ایک دوسرے سے ملتے جلتے ہیں، رب اُن سب کا خالق ہے۔

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

ذہین آدمی خطرہ پہلے سے بھانپ کر چھپ جاتا ہے، جبکہ سادہ لوح آگے بڑھ کر اُس کی لپیٹ میں آ جاتا ہے۔

By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

فروتنی اور رب کا خوف ماننے کا پھل دولت، احترام اور زندگی ہے۔

Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

بےدین کی راہ میں کانٹے اور پھندے ہوتے ہیں۔ جو اپنی جان محفوظ رکھنا چاہے وہ اُن سے دُور رہتا ہے۔

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

چھوٹے بچے کو صحیح راہ پر چلنے کی تربیت دے تو وہ بوڑھا ہو کر بھی اُس سے نہیں ہٹے گا۔

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

امیر غریب پر حکومت کرتا، اور قرض دار قرض خواہ کا غلام ہوتا ہے۔

He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

جو ناانصافی کا بیج بوئے وہ آفت کی فصل کاٹے گا، تب اُس کی زیادتی کی لاٹھی ٹوٹ جائے گی۔

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

فیاض دل کو برکت ملے گی، کیونکہ وہ پست حال کو اپنے کھانے میں شریک کرتا ہے۔

Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

طعنہ زن کو بھگا دے تو لڑائی جھگڑا گھر سے نکل جائے گا، تُو تُو مَیں مَیں اور ایک دوسرے کی بےعزتی کرنے کا سلسلہ ختم ہو جائے گا۔

He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

جو دل کی پاکیزگی کو پیار کرے اور مہربان زبان کا مالک ہو وہ بادشاہ کا دوست بنے گا۔

The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

رب کی آنکھیں علم و عرفان کی دیکھ بھال کرتی ہیں، لیکن وہ بےوفا کی باتوں کو تباہ ہونے دیتا ہے۔

The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

کاہل کہتا ہے، ”گلی میں شیر ہے، اگر باہر جاؤں تو مجھے کسی چوک میں پھاڑ کھائے گا۔“

The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

زناکار عورت کا منہ گہرا گڑھا ہے۔ جس سے رب ناراض ہو وہ اُس میں گر جاتا ہے۔

Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

بچے کے دل میں حماقت ٹکتی ہے، لیکن تربیت کی چھڑی اُسے بھگا دیتی ہے۔

He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

ایک پست حال پر ظلم کرتا ہے تاکہ دولت پائے، دوسرا امیر کو تحفے دیتا ہے لیکن غریب ہو جاتا ہے۔

Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

کان لگا کر داناؤں کی باتوں پر دھیان دے، دل سے میری تعلیم اپنا لے!

For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

کیونکہ اچھا ہے کہ تُو اُنہیں اپنے دل میں محفوظ رکھے، وہ سب تیرے ہونٹوں پر مستعد رہیں۔

That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

آج مَیں تجھے، ہاں تجھے ہی تعلیم دے رہا ہوں تاکہ تیرا بھروسا رب پر رہے۔

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

مَیں نے تیرے لئے 30 کہاوتیں قلم بند کی ہیں، ایسی باتیں جو مشوروں اور علم سے بھری ہوئی ہیں۔

That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

کیونکہ مَیں تجھے سچائی کی قابلِ اعتماد باتیں سکھانا چاہتا ہوں تاکہ تُو اُنہیں قابلِ اعتماد جواب دے سکے جنہوں نے تجھے بھیجا ہے۔

Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

پست حال کو اِس لئے نہ لُوٹ کہ وہ پست حال ہے، مصیبت زدہ کو عدالت میں مت کچلنا۔

For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

کیونکہ رب خود اُن کا دفاع کر کے اُنہیں لُوٹ لے گا جو اُنہیں لُوٹ رہے ہیں۔

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

غصیلے شخص کا دوست نہ بن، نہ اُس سے زیادہ تعلق رکھ جو جلدی سے آگ بگولا ہو جاتا ہے۔

Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

ایسا نہ ہو کہ تُو اُس کا چال چلن اپنا کر اپنی جان کے لئے پھندا لگائے۔

Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

کبھی ہاتھ ملا کر وعدہ نہ کر کہ مَیں دوسرے کے قرضے کا ضامن ہوں گا۔

If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

قرض دار کے پیسے واپس نہ کرنے پر اگر تُو بھی پیسے ادا نہ کر سکے تو تیری چارپائی بھی تیرے نیچے سے چھین لی جائے گی۔

Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

زمین کی جو حدود تیرے باپ دادا نے مقرر کیں اُنہیں آگے پیچھے مت کرنا۔

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

کیا تجھے ایسا آدمی نظر آتا ہے جو اپنے کام میں ماہر ہے؟ وہ نچلے طبقے کے لوگوں کی خدمت نہیں کرے گا بلکہ بادشاہوں کی۔
