Mark 8

In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,

اُن دنوں میں ایک اَور مرتبہ ایسا ہوا کہ بہت سے لوگ جمع ہوئے جن کے پاس کھانے کا بندوبست نہیں تھا۔ چنانچہ عیسیٰ نے اپنے شاگردوں کو بُلا کر اُن سے کہا،

I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:

”مجھے اِن لوگوں پر ترس آتا ہے۔ اِنہیں میرے ساتھ ٹھہرے تین دن ہو چکے ہیں اور اِن کے پاس کھانے کی کوئی چیز نہیں ہے۔

And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.

لیکن اگر مَیں اِنہیں رُخصت کر دوں اور وہ اِس بھوکی حالت میں اپنے اپنے گھر چلے جائیں تو وہ راستے میں تھک کر چُور ہو جائیں گے۔ اور اِن میں سے کئی دُوردراز سے آئے ہیں۔“

And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?

اُس کے شاگردوں نے جواب دیا، ”اِس ویران علاقے میں کہاں سے اِتنا کھانا مل سکے گا کہ یہ کھا کر سیر ہو جائیں؟“

And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.

عیسیٰ نے پوچھا، ”تمہارے پاس کتنی روٹیاں ہیں؟“ اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”سات۔“

And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.

عیسیٰ نے ہجوم کو زمین پر بیٹھنے کو کہا۔ پھر سات روٹیوں کو لے کر اُس نے شکرگزاری کی دعا کی اور اُنہیں توڑ توڑ کر اپنے شاگردوں کو تقسیم کرنے کے لئے دے دیا۔

And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.

اُن کے پاس دو چار چھوٹی مچھلیاں بھی تھیں۔ عیسیٰ نے اُن پر بھی شکرگزاری کی دعا کی اور شاگردوں کو اُنہیں بانٹنے کو کہا۔

So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.

لوگوں نے جی بھر کر کھایا۔ بعد میں جب کھانے کے بچے ہوئے ٹکڑے جمع کئے گئے تو سات بڑے ٹوکرے بھر گئے۔

And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.

تقریباً 4,000 آدمی حاضر تھے۔ کھانے کے بعد عیسیٰ نے اُنہیں رُخصت کر دیا

And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

اور فوراً کشتی پر سوار ہو کر اپنے شاگردوں کے ساتھ دلمنوتہ کے علاقے میں پہنچ گیا۔

And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

اِس پر فریسی نکل کر عیسیٰ کے پاس آئے اور اُس سے بحث کرنے لگے۔ اُسے آزمانے کے لئے اُنہوں نے مطالبہ کیا کہ وہ اُنہیں آسمان کی طرف سے کوئی الٰہی نشان دکھائے تاکہ اُس کا اختیار ثابت ہو جائے۔

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

لیکن اُس نے ٹھنڈی آہ بھر کر کہا، ”یہ نسل کیوں الٰہی نشان کا مطالبہ کرتی ہے؟ مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں کہ اِسے کوئی نشان نہیں دیا جائے گا۔“

And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.

اور اُنہیں چھوڑ کر وہ دوبارہ کشتی میں بیٹھ گیا اور جھیل کو پار کرنے لگا۔

Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.

لیکن شاگرد اپنے ساتھ کھانا لانا بھول گئے تھے۔ کشتی میں اُن کے پاس صرف ایک روٹی تھی۔

And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

عیسیٰ نے اُنہیں ہدایت کی، ”خبردار، فریسیوں اور ہیرودیس کے خمیر سے ہوشیار رہنا۔“

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.

شاگرد آپس میں بحث کرنے لگے، ”وہ اِس لئے کہہ رہے ہوں گے کہ ہمارے پاس روٹی نہیں ہے۔“

And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?

عیسیٰ کو معلوم ہوا کہ وہ کیا سوچ رہے ہیں۔ اُس نے کہا، ”تم آپس میں کیوں بحث کر رہے ہو کہ ہمارے پاس روٹی نہیں ہے؟ کیا تم اب تک نہ جانتے، نہ سمجھتے ہو؟ کیا تمہارے دل اِتنے بےحس ہو گئے ہیں؟

Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

تمہاری آنکھیں تو ہیں، کیا تم دیکھ نہیں سکتے؟ تمہارے کان تو ہیں، کیا تم سن نہیں سکتے؟ اور کیا تمہیں یاد نہیں

When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

جب مَیں نے 5,000 آدمیوں کو پانچ روٹیوں سے سیر کر دیا تو تم نے بچے ہوئے ٹکڑوں کے کتنے ٹوکرے اُٹھائے تھے؟“ اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”بارہ“۔

And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

”اور جب مَیں نے 4,000 آدمیوں کو سات روٹیوں سے سیر کر دیا تو تم نے بچے ہوئے ٹکڑوں کے کتنے ٹوکرے اُٹھائے تھے؟“ اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”سات۔“

And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?

اُس نے پوچھا، ”کیا تم ابھی تک نہیں سمجھتے؟“

And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.

وہ بیت صیدا پہنچے تو لوگ عیسیٰ کے پاس ایک اندھے آدمی کو لائے۔ اُنہوں نے التماس کی کہ وہ اُسے چھوئے۔

And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.

عیسیٰ اندھے کا ہاتھ پکڑ کر اُسے گاؤں سے باہر لے گیا۔ وہاں اُس نے اُس کی آنکھوں پر تھوک کر اپنے ہاتھ اُس پر رکھ دیئے اور پوچھا، ”کیا تُو کچھ دیکھ سکتا ہے؟“

And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

آدمی نے نظر اُٹھا کر کہا، ”ہاں، مَیں لوگوں کو دیکھ سکتا ہوں۔ وہ پھرتے ہوئے درختوں کی مانند دکھائی دے رہے ہیں۔“

After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

عیسیٰ نے دوبارہ اپنے ہاتھ اُس کی آنکھوں پر رکھے۔ اِس پر آدمی کی آنکھیں پورے طور پر کھل گئیں، اُس کی نظر بحال ہو گئی اور وہ سب کچھ صاف صاف دیکھ سکتا تھا۔

And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

عیسیٰ نے اُسے رُخصت کر کے کہا، ”اِس گاؤں میں واپس نہ جانا بلکہ سیدھا اپنے گھر چلا جا۔“

And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Cæsarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?

پھر عیسیٰ وہاں سے نکل کر اپنے شاگردوں کے ساتھ قیصریہ فلپی کے قریب کے دیہاتوں میں گیا۔ چلتے چلتے اُس نے اُن سے پوچھا، ”مَیں لوگوں کے نزدیک کون ہوں؟“

And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.

اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”کچھ کہتے ہیں یحییٰ بپتسمہ دینے والا، کچھ یہ کہ آپ الیاس نبی ہیں۔ کچھ یہ بھی کہتے ہیں کہ نبیوں میں سے ایک۔“

And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

اُس نے پوچھا، ”لیکن تم کیا کہتے ہو؟ تمہارے نزدیک مَیں کون ہوں؟“ پطرس نے جواب دیا، ”آپ مسیح ہیں۔“

And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

یہ سن کر عیسیٰ نے اُنہیں کسی کو بھی یہ بات بتانے سے منع کیا۔

And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

پھر عیسیٰ اُنہیں تعلیم دینے لگا، ”لازم ہے کہ ابنِ آدم بہت دُکھ اُٹھا کر بزرگوں، راہنما اماموں اور شریعت کے علما سے رد کیا جائے۔ اُسے قتل بھی کیا جائے گا، لیکن وہ تیسرے دن جی اُٹھے گا۔“

And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

اُس نے اُنہیں یہ بات صاف صاف بتائی۔ اِس پر پطرس اُسے ایک طرف لے جا کر سمجھانے لگا۔

But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

عیسیٰ مُڑ کر شاگردوں کی طرف دیکھنے لگا۔ اُس نے پطرس کو ڈانٹا، ”شیطان، میرے سامنے سے ہٹ جا! تُو اللہ کی سوچ نہیں رکھتا بلکہ انسان کی۔“

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

پھر اُس نے شاگردوں کے علاوہ ہجوم کو بھی اپنے پاس بُلایا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”جو میرے پیچھے آنا چاہے وہ اپنے آپ کا انکار کرے اور اپنی صلیب اُٹھا کر میرے پیچھے ہو لے۔

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

کیونکہ جو اپنی جان کو بچائے رکھنا چاہے وہ اُسے کھو دے گا۔ لیکن جو میری اور اللہ کی خوش خبری کی خاطر اپنی جان کھو دے وہی اُسے بچائے گا۔

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

کیا فائدہ ہے اگر کسی کو پوری دنیا حاصل ہو جائے، لیکن وہ اپنی جان سے محروم ہو جائے؟

Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

انسان اپنی جان کے بدلے کیا دے سکتا ہے؟

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

جو بھی اِس زناکار اور گناہ آلودہ نسل کے سامنے میرے اور میری باتوں کے سبب سے شرمائے اُس سے ابنِ آدم بھی اُس وقت شرمائے گا جب وہ اپنے باپ کے جلال میں مُقدّس فرشتوں کے ساتھ آئے گا۔“
