Luke 18

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

پھر عیسیٰ نے اُنہیں ایک تمثیل سنائی جو مسلسل دعا کرنے اور ہمت نہ ہارنے کی ضرورت کو ظاہر کرتی ہے۔

Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

اُس نے کہا، ”کسی شہر میں ایک جج رہتا تھا جو نہ خدا کا خوف مانتا، نہ کسی انسان کا لحاظ کرتا تھا۔

And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

اب اُس شہر میں ایک بیوہ بھی تھی جو یہ کہہ کر اُس کے پاس آتی رہی کہ ’میرے مخالف کو جیتنے نہ دیں بلکہ میرا انصاف کریں۔‘

And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

کچھ دیر کے لئے جج نے انکار کیا۔ لیکن پھر وہ دل میں کہنے لگا، ’بےشک مَیں خدا کا خوف نہیں مانتا، نہ لوگوں کی پروا کرتا ہوں،

Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

لیکن یہ بیوہ مجھے بار بار تنگ کر رہی ہے۔ اِس لئے مَیں اُس کا انصاف کروں گا۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ آخرکار وہ آ کر میرے منہ پر تھپڑ مارے‘۔“

And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.

خداوند نے بات جاری رکھی۔ ”اِس پر دھیان دو جو بےانصاف جج نے کہا۔

And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

اگر اُس نے آخرکار انصاف کیا تو کیا اللہ اپنے چنے ہوئے لوگوں کا انصاف نہیں کرے گا جو دن رات اُسے مدد کے لئے پکارتے ہیں؟ کیا وہ اُن کی بات ملتوی کرتا رہے گا؟

I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

ہرگز نہیں! مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ وہ جلدی سے اُن کا انصاف کرے گا۔ لیکن کیا ابنِ آدم جب دنیا میں آئے گا تو ایمان دیکھ پائے گا؟“

And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

بعض لوگ موجود تھے جو اپنی راست بازی پر بھروسا رکھتے اور دوسروں کو حقیر جانتے تھے۔ اُنہیں عیسیٰ نے یہ تمثیل سنائی،

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

”دو آدمی بیت المُقدّس میں دعا کرنے آئے۔ ایک فریسی تھا اور دوسرا ٹیکس لینے والا۔

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

فریسی کھڑا ہو کر یہ دعا کرنے لگا، ’اے خدا، مَیں تیرا شکر کرتا ہوں کہ مَیں باقی لوگوں کی طرح نہیں ہوں۔ نہ مَیں ڈاکو ہوں، نہ بےانصاف، نہ زناکار۔ مَیں اِس ٹیکس لینے والے کی مانند بھی نہیں ہوں۔

I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

مَیں ہفتے میں دو مرتبہ روزہ رکھتا ہوں اور تمام آمدنی کا دسواں حصہ تیرے لئے مخصوص کرتا ہوں۔‘

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

لیکن ٹیکس لینے والا دُور ہی کھڑا رہا۔ اُس نے اپنی آنکھیں آسمان کی طرف اُٹھانے تک کی جرٲت نہ کی بلکہ اپنی چھاتی پیٹ پیٹ کر کہنے لگا، ’اے خدا، مجھ گناہ گار پر رحم کر!‘

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ جب دونوں اپنے اپنے گھر لوٹے تو فریسی نہیں بلکہ یہ آدمی اللہ کے نزدیک راست باز ٹھہرا۔ کیونکہ جو بھی اپنے آپ کو سرفراز کرے اُسے پست کیا جائے گا اور جو اپنے آپ کو پست کرے اُسے سرفراز کیا جائے گا۔“

And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.

ایک دن لوگ اپنے چھوٹے بچوں کو بھی عیسیٰ کے پاس لائے تاکہ وہ اُنہیں چھوئے۔ یہ دیکھ کر شاگردوں نے اُن کو ملامت کی۔

But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

لیکن عیسیٰ نے اُنہیں اپنے پاس بُلا کر کہا، ”بچوں کو میرے پاس آنے دو اور اُنہیں نہ روکو، کیونکہ اللہ کی بادشاہی اِن جیسے لوگوں کو حاصل ہے۔

Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں، جو اللہ کی بادشاہی کو بچے کی طرح قبول نہ کرے وہ اُس میں داخل نہیں ہو گا۔“

And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

کسی راہنما نے اُس سے پوچھا، ”نیک اُستاد، مَیں کیا کروں تاکہ میراث میں ابدی زندگی پاؤں؟“

And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”تُو مجھے نیک کیوں کہتا ہے؟ کوئی نیک نہیں سوائے ایک کے اور وہ ہے اللہ۔

Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

تُو شریعت کے احکام سے تو واقف ہے کہ زنا نہ کرنا، قتل نہ کرنا، چوری نہ کرنا، جھوٹی گواہی نہ دینا، اپنے باپ اور اپنی ماں کی عزت کرنا۔“

And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.

آدمی نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں نے جوانی سے آج تک اِن تمام احکام کی پیروی کی ہے۔“

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

یہ سن کر عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”ایک کام اب تک رہ گیا ہے۔ اپنی پوری جائیداد فروخت کر کے پیسے غریبوں میں تقسیم کر دے۔ پھر تیرے لئے آسمان پر خزانہ جمع ہو جائے گا۔ اِس کے بعد آ کر میرے پیچھے ہو لے۔“

And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

یہ سن کر آدمی کو بہت دُکھ ہوا، کیونکہ وہ نہایت دولت مند تھا۔

And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

یہ دیکھ کر عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”دولت مندوں کے لئے اللہ کی بادشاہی میں داخل ہونا کتنا مشکل ہے!

For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

امیر کے اللہ کی بادشاہی میں داخل ہونے کی نسبت یہ زیادہ آسان ہے کہ اونٹ سوئی کے ناکے میں سے گزر جائے۔“

And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?

یہ بات سن کر سننے والوں نے پوچھا، ”پھر کس کو نجات مل سکتی ہے؟“

And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”جو انسان کے لئے ناممکن ہے وہ اللہ کے لئے ممکن ہے۔“

Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.

پطرس نے اُس سے کہا، ”ہم تو اپنا سب کچھ چھوڑ کر آپ کے پیچھے ہو لئے ہیں۔“

And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں کہ جس نے بھی اللہ کی بادشاہی کی خاطر اپنے گھر، بیوی، بھائیوں، والدین یا بچوں کو چھوڑ دیا ہے

Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.

اُسے اِس زمانے میں کئی گُنا زیادہ اور آنے والے زمانے میں ابدی زندگی ملے گی۔“

Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

عیسیٰ شاگردوں کو ایک طرف لے جا کر اُن سے کہنے لگا، ”سنو، ہم یروشلم کی طرف بڑھ رہے ہیں۔ وہاں سب کچھ پورا ہو جائے گا جو نبیوں کی معرفت ابنِ آدم کے بارے میں لکھا گیا ہے۔

For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:

اُسے غیریہودیوں کے حوالے کر دیا جائے گا جو اُس کا مذاق اُڑائیں گے، اُس کی بےعزتی کریں گے، اُس پر تھوکیں گے،

And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.

اُس کو کوڑے ماریں گے اور اُسے قتل کریں گے۔ لیکن تیسرے دن وہ جی اُٹھے گا۔“

And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.

لیکن شاگردوں کی سمجھ میں کچھ نہ آیا۔ اِس بات کا مطلب اُن سے چھپا رہا اور وہ نہ سمجھے کہ وہ کیا کہہ رہا ہے۔

And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

عیسیٰ یریحو کے قریب پہنچا۔ وہاں راستے کے کنارے ایک اندھا بیٹھا بھیک مانگ رہا تھا۔

And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

بہت سے لوگ اُس کے سامنے سے گزرنے لگے تو اُس نے یہ سن کر پوچھا کہ کیا ہو رہا ہے۔

And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

اُنہوں نے کہا، ”عیسیٰ ناصری یہاں سے گزر رہا ہے۔“

And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

اندھا چلّانے لگا، ”اے عیسیٰ ابنِ داؤد، مجھ پر رحم کریں۔“

And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

آگے چلنے والوں نے اُسے ڈانٹ کر کہا، ”خاموش!“ لیکن وہ مزید اونچی آواز سے پکارتا رہا، ”اے ابنِ داؤد، مجھ پر رحم کریں۔“

And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,

عیسیٰ رُک گیا اور حکم دیا، ”اُسے میرے پاس لاؤ۔“ جب وہ قریب آیا تو عیسیٰ نے اُس سے پوچھا،

Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.

”تُو کیا چاہتا ہے کہ مَیں تیرے لئے کروں؟“ اُس نے جواب دیا، ”خداوند، یہ کہ مَیں دیکھ سکوں۔“

And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

عیسیٰ نے اُس سے کہا، ”تو پھر دیکھ! تیرے ایمان نے تجھے بچا لیا ہے۔“

And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

جوں ہی اُس نے یہ کہا اندھے کی آنکھیں بحال ہو گئیں اور وہ اللہ کی تمجید کرتے ہوئے اُس کے پیچھے ہو لیا۔ یہ دیکھ کر پورے ہجوم نے اللہ کو جلال دیا۔
