Acts 7

Then said the high priest, Are these things so?

امامِ اعظم نے پوچھا، ”کیا یہ سچ ہے؟“

And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

ستفنس نے جواب دیا، ”بھائیو اور بزرگو، میری بات سنیں۔ جلال کا خدا ہمارے باپ ابراہیم پر ظاہر ہوا جب وہ ابھی مسوپتامیہ میں آباد تھا۔ اُس وقت وہ حاران میں منتقل نہیں ہوا تھا۔

And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

اللہ نے اُس سے کہا، ’اپنے وطن اور اپنی قوم کو چھوڑ کر اُس ملک میں چلا جا جو مَیں تجھے دکھاؤں گا۔‘

Then came he out of the land of the Chaldæans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

چنانچہ وہ کسدیوں کے ملک کو چھوڑ کر حاران میں رہنے لگا۔ وہاں اُس کا باپ فوت ہوا تو اللہ نے اُسے اِس ملک میں منتقل کیا جس میں آپ آج تک آباد ہیں۔

And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

اُس وقت اللہ نے اُسے اِس ملک میں کوئی بھی موروثی زمین نہ دی تھی، ایک مربع فٹ تک بھی نہیں۔ لیکن اُس نے اُس سے وعدہ کیا، ’مَیں اِس ملک کو تیرے اور تیری اولاد کے قبضے میں کر دوں گا،‘ اگرچہ اُس وقت ابراہیم کے ہاں کوئی بچہ پیدا نہیں ہوا تھا۔

And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.

اللہ نے اُسے یہ بھی بتایا، ’تیری اولاد ایسے ملک میں رہے گی جو اُس کا نہیں ہو گا۔ وہاں وہ اجنبی اور غلام ہو گی، اور اُس پر 400 سال تک بہت ظلم کیا جائے گا۔

And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.

لیکن مَیں اُس قوم کی عدالت کروں گا جس نے اُسے غلام بنایا ہو گا۔ اِس کے بعد وہ اُس ملک میں سے نکل کر اِس مقام پر میری عبادت کریں گے۔‘

And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.

پھر اللہ نے ابراہیم کو ختنہ کا عہد دیا۔ چنانچہ جب ابراہیم کا بیٹا اسحاق پیدا ہوا تو باپ نے آٹھویں دن اُس کا ختنہ کیا۔ یہ سلسلہ جاری رہا جب اسحاق کا بیٹا یعقوب پیدا ہوا اور یعقوب کے بارہ بیٹے، ہمارے بارہ قبیلوں کے سردار۔

And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,

یہ سردار اپنے بھائی یوسف سے حسد کرنے لگے اور اِس لئے اُسے بیچ دیا۔ یوں وہ غلام بن کر مصر پہنچا۔ لیکن اللہ اُس کے ساتھ رہا

And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

اور اُسے اُس کی تمام مصیبتوں سے رِہائی دی۔ اُس نے اُسے دانائی عطا کر کے اِس قابل بنا دیا کہ وہ مصر کے بادشاہ فرعون کا منظورِ نظر ہو جائے۔ یوں فرعون نے اُسے مصر اور اپنے پورے گھرانے پر حکمران مقرر کیا۔

Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

پھر تمام مصر اور کنعان میں کال پڑا۔ لوگ بڑی مصیبت میں پڑ گئے اور ہمارے باپ دادا کے پاس بھی خوراک ختم ہو گئی۔

But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

یعقوب کو پتا چلا کہ مصر میں اب تک اناج ہے، اِس لئے اُس نے اپنے بیٹوں کو اناج خریدنے کو وہاں بھیج دیا۔

And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.

جب اُنہیں دوسری بار وہاں جانا پڑا تو یوسف نے اپنے آپ کو اپنے بھائیوں پر ظاہر کیا، اور فرعون کو یوسف کے خاندان کے بارے میں آگاہ کیا گیا۔

Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.

اِس کے بعد یوسف نے اپنے باپ یعقوب اور تمام رشتے داروں کو بُلا لیا۔ کُل 75 افراد آئے۔

So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,

یوں یعقوب مصر پہنچا۔ وہاں وہ اور ہمارے باپ دادا مر گئے۔

And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.

اُنہیں سِکم میں لا کر اُس قبر میں دفنایا گیا جو ابراہیم نے ہمور کی اولاد سے پیسے دے کر خریدی تھی۔

But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

پھر وہ وقت قریب آ گیا جس کا وعدہ اللہ نے ابراہیم سے کیا تھا۔ مصر میں ہماری قوم کی تعداد بہت بڑھ چکی تھی۔

Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.

لیکن ہوتے ہوتے ایک نیا بادشاہ تخت نشین ہوا جو یوسف سے ناواقف تھا۔

The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.

اُس نے ہماری قوم کا استحصال کر کے اُن سے بدسلوکی کی اور اُنہیں اپنے شیرخوار بچوں کو ضائع کرنے پر مجبور کیا۔

In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months:

اُس وقت موسیٰ پیدا ہوا۔ وہ اللہ کے نزدیک خوب صورت بچہ تھا اور تین ماہ تک اپنے باپ کے گھر میں پالا گیا۔

And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.

اِس کے بعد والدین کو اُسے چھوڑنا پڑا، لیکن فرعون کی بیٹی نے اُسے لے پالک بنا کر اپنے بیٹے کے طور پر پالا۔

And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

اور موسیٰ کو مصریوں کی حکمت کے ہر شعبے میں تربیت ملی۔ اُسے بولنے اور عمل کرنے کی زبردست قابلیت حاصل تھی۔

And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.

جب وہ چالیس سال کا تھا تو اُسے اپنی قوم اسرائیل کے لوگوں سے ملنے کا خیال آیا۔

And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:

جب اُس نے اُن کے پاس جا کر دیکھا کہ ایک مصری کسی اسرائیلی پر تشدد کر رہا ہے تو اُس نے اسرائیلی کی حمایت کر کے مظلوم کا بدلہ لیا اور مصری کو مار ڈالا۔

For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.

اُس کا خیال تو یہ تھا کہ میرے بھائیوں کو سمجھ آئے گی کہ اللہ میرے وسیلے سے اُنہیں رِہائی دے گا، لیکن ایسا نہیں تھا۔

And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?

اگلے دن وہ دو اسرائیلیوں کے پاس سے گزرا جو آپس میں لڑ رہے تھے۔ اُس نے صلح کرانے کی کوشش میں کہا، ’مردو، آپ تو بھائی ہیں۔ آپ کیوں ایک دوسرے سے غلط سلوک کر رہے ہیں؟‘

But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?

لیکن جو آدمی دوسرے سے بدسلوکی کر رہا تھا اُس نے موسیٰ کو ایک طرف دھکیل کر کہا، ’کس نے آپ کو ہم پر حکمران اور قاضی مقرر کیا ہے؟

Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday?

کیا آپ مجھے بھی قتل کرنا چاہتے ہیں جس طرح کل مصری کو مار ڈالا تھا؟‘

Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.

یہ سن کر موسیٰ فرار ہو کر ملکِ مِدیان میں اجنبی کے طور پر رہنے لگا۔ وہاں اُس کے دو بیٹے پیدا ہوئے۔

And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.

چالیس سال کے بعد ایک فرشتہ جلتی ہوئی کانٹےدار جھاڑی کے شعلے میں اُس پر ظاہر ہوا۔ اُس وقت موسیٰ سینا پہاڑ کے قریب ریگستان میں تھا۔

When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him,

یہ منظر دیکھ کر موسیٰ حیران ہوا۔ جب وہ اُس کا معائنہ کرنے کے لئے قریب پہنچا تو رب کی آواز سنائی دی،

Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

’مَیں تیرے باپ دادا کا خدا، ابراہیم، اسحاق اور یعقوب کا خدا ہوں۔‘ موسیٰ تھرتھرانے لگا اور اُس طرف دیکھنے کی جرٲت نہ کی۔

Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.

پھر رب نے اُس سے کہا، ’اپنی جوتیاں اُتار، کیونکہ تُو مُقدّس زمین پر کھڑا ہے۔

I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.

مَیں نے مصر میں اپنی قوم کی بُری حالت دیکھی اور اُن کی آہیں سنی ہیں، اِس لئے اُنہیں بچانے کے لئے اُتر آیا ہوں۔ اب جا، مَیں تجھے مصر بھیجتا ہوں۔‘

This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.

یوں اللہ نے اُس شخص کو اُن کے پاس بھیج دیا جسے وہ یہ کہہ کر رد کر چکے تھے کہ ’کس نے آپ کو ہم پر حکمران اور قاضی مقرر کیا ہے؟‘ جلتی ہوئی کانٹےدار جھاڑی میں موجود فرشتے کی معرفت اللہ نے موسیٰ کو اُن کے پاس بھیج دیا تاکہ وہ اُن کا حکمران اور نجات دہندہ بن جائے۔

He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

اور وہ معجزے اور الٰہی نشان دکھا کر اُنہیں مصر سے نکال لایا، پھر بحرِ قُلزم سے گزر کر 40 سال کے دوران ریگستان میں اُن کی راہنمائی کی۔

This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.

موسیٰ نے خود اسرائیلیوں کو بتایا، ’اللہ تمہارے واسطے تمہارے بھائیوں میں سے مجھ جیسے نبی کو برپا کرے گا۔‘

This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

موسیٰ ریگستان میں قوم کی جماعت میں شریک تھا۔ ایک طرف وہ اُس فرشتے کے ساتھ تھا جو سینا پہاڑ پر اُس سے باتیں کرتا تھا، دوسری طرف ہمارے باپ دادا کے ساتھ۔ فرشتے سے اُسے زندگی بخش باتیں مل گئیں جو اُسے ہمارے سپرد کرنی تھیں۔

To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

لیکن ہمارے باپ دادا نے اُس کی سننے سے انکار کر کے اُسے رد کر دیا۔ دل ہی دل میں وہ مصر کی طرف رجوع کر چکے تھے۔

Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

وہ ہارون سے کہنے لگے، ’آئیں، ہمارے لئے دیوتا بنا دیں جو ہمارے آگے آگے چلتے ہوئے ہماری راہنمائی کریں۔ کیونکہ کیا معلوم کہ اُس بندے موسیٰ کو کیا ہوا ہے جو ہمیں مصر سے نکال لایا۔‘

And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

اُسی وقت اُنہوں نے بچھڑے کا بُت بنا کر اُسے قربانیاں پیش کیں اور اپنے ہاتھوں کے کام کی خوشی منائی۔

Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?

اِس پر اللہ نے اپنا منہ پھیر لیا اور اُنہیں ستاروں کی پوجا کی گرفت میں چھوڑ دیا، بالکل اُسی طرح جس طرح نبیوں کے صحیفے میں لکھا ہے، ’اے اسرائیل کے گھرانے، جب تم ریگستان میں گھومتے پھرتے تھے تو کیا تم نے اُن 40 سالوں کے دوران کبھی مجھے ذبح اور غلہ کی قربانیاں پیش کیں؟

Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

نہیں، اُس وقت بھی تم مولک دیوتا کا تابوت اور رفان دیوتا کا ستارہ اُٹھائے پھرتے تھے، گو تم نے اپنے ہاتھوں سے یہ بُت پوجا کرنے کے لئے بنا لئے تھے۔ اِس لئے مَیں تمہیں جلاوطن کر کے بابل کے پار بسا دوں گا۔‘

Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.

ریگستان میں ہمارے باپ دادا کے پاس ملاقات کا خیمہ تھا۔ اُسے اُس نمونے کے مطابق بنایا گیا تھا جو اللہ نے موسیٰ کو دکھایا تھا۔

Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;

موسیٰ کی موت کے بعد ہمارے باپ دادا نے اُسے ورثے میں پا کر اپنے ساتھ لے لیا جب اُنہوں نے یشوع کی راہنمائی میں اِس ملک میں داخل ہو کر اُس پر قبضہ کر لیا۔ اُس وقت اللہ اُس میں آباد قوموں کو اُن کے آگے آگے نکالتا گیا۔ یوں ملاقات کا خیمہ داؤد بادشاہ کے زمانے تک ملک میں رہا۔

Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.

داؤد اللہ کا منظورِ نظر تھا۔ اُس نے یعقوب کے خدا کو ایک سکونت گاہ مہیا کرنے کی اجازت مانگی۔

But Solomon built him an house.

لیکن سلیمان کو اُس کے لئے مکان بنانے کا اعزاز حاصل ہوا۔

Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,

حقیقت میں اللہ تعالیٰ انسان کے ہاتھ کے بنائے ہوئے مکانوں میں نہیں رہتا۔ نبی رب کا فرمان یوں بیان کرتا ہے،

Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?

’آسمان میرا تخت ہے اور زمین میرے پاؤں کی چوکی، تو پھر تم میرے لئے کس قسم کا گھر بناؤ گے؟ وہ جگہ کہاں ہے جہاں مَیں آرام کروں گا؟

Hath not my hand made all these things?

کیا میرے ہاتھ نے یہ سب کچھ نہیں بنایا؟‘

Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.

اے گردن کش لوگو! بےشک آپ کا ختنہ ہوا ہے جو اللہ کی قوم کا ظاہری نشان ہے۔ لیکن اُس کا آپ کے دلوں اور کانوں پر کچھ بھی اثر نہیں ہوا۔ آپ اپنے باپ دادا کی طرح ہمیشہ روح القدس کی مخالفت کرتے رہتے ہیں۔

Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:

کیا کبھی کوئی نبی تھا جسے آپ کے باپ دادا نے نہ ستایا؟ اُنہوں نے اُنہیں بھی قتل کیا جنہوں نے راست باز مسیح کی پیش گوئی کی، اُس شخص کی جسے آپ نے دشمنوں کے حوالے کر کے مار ڈالا۔

Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.

آپ ہی کو فرشتوں کے ہاتھ سے اللہ کی شریعت حاصل ہوئی مگر اُس پر عمل نہیں کیا۔“

When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

ستفنس کی یہ باتیں سن کر اجلاس کے لوگ طیش میں آ کر دانت پیسنے لگے۔

But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

لیکن ستفنس روح القدس سے معمور اپنی نظر اُٹھا کر آسمان کی طرف تکنے لگا۔ وہاں اُسے اللہ کا جلال نظر آیا، اور عیسیٰ اللہ کے دہنے ہاتھ کھڑا تھا۔

And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

اُس نے کہا، ”دیکھو، مجھے آسمان کھلا ہوا دکھائی دے رہا ہے اور ابنِ آدم اللہ کے دہنے ہاتھ کھڑا ہے!“

Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,

یہ سنتے ہی اُنہوں نے چیخ چیخ کر ہاتھوں سے اپنے کانوں کو بند کر لیا اور مل کر اُس پر جھپٹ پڑے۔

And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.

پھر وہ اُسے شہر سے نکال کر سنگسار کرنے لگے۔ اور جن لوگوں نے اُس کے خلاف گواہی دی تھی اُنہوں نے اپنی چادریں اُتار کر ایک جوان آدمی کے پاؤں میں رکھ دیں۔ اُس آدمی کا نام ساؤل تھا۔

And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

جب وہ ستفنس کو سنگسار کر رہے تھے تو اُس نے دعا کر کے کہا، ”اے خداوند عیسیٰ، میری روح کو قبول کر۔“

And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

پھر گھٹنے ٹیک کر اُس نے اونچی آواز سے کہا، ”اے خداوند، اُنہیں اِس گناہ کے ذمہ دار نہ ٹھہرا۔“ یہ کہہ کر وہ انتقال کر گیا۔
