Proverbs 25

These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

Και αυται ειναι παροιμιαι του Σολομωντος, τας οποιας συνελεξαν οι ανθρωποι του Εζεκιου, βασιλεως του Ιουδα.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

Δοξα του Θεου ειναι να καλυπτη το πραγμα δοξα δε των βασιλεων να εξιχνιαζωσι το πραγμα.

The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

Ο ουρανος κατα το υψος και η γη κατα το βαθος και η καρδια των βασιλεων ειναι ανεξερευνητα.

Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

Αφαιρεσον την σκωριαν απο του αργυρου, και σκευος θελει εξελθει εις τον χρυσοχοον

Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

αφαιρεσον τους ασεβεις απ εμπροσθεν του βασιλεως, και ο θρονος αυτου θελει στερεωθη εν δικαιοσυνη.

Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

Μη αλαζονευου εμπροσθεν του βασιλεως, και μη ιστασαι εν τω τοπω των μεγαλων

For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

Διοτι καλητερον να σοι ειπωσιν, Αναβα εδω, παρα να καταβιβασθης επι παρουσια του αρχοντος, τον οποιον ειδον οι οφθαλμοι σου.

Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

Μη εξελθης εις εριδα ταχεως μηποτε εν τω τελει απορησης τι να καμης, οταν ο πλησιον σου σε καταισχυνη.

Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

Εκδικασον την δικην σου μετα του πλησιον σου και μη ανακαλυπτε το μυστικον αλλου

Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

Μηποτε ο ακουων σε ονειδιση και η καταισχυνη σου δεν εξαλειφθη.

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Λογος λαληθεις πρεποντως ειναι μηλα χρυσα εις ποικιλματα αργυρα.

As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

Ως ενωτιον χρυσουν και στολιδιον καθαρου χρυσιου, ειναι ο σοφος ο ελεγχων ωτιον υπηκοον.

As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

Ως το ψυχος της χιονος εν καιρω του θερισμου, ουτως ειναι ο πιστος πρεσβυς εις τους αποστελλοντας αυτον διοτι αναπαυει την ψυχην των κυριων αυτου.

Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

Ο καυχωμενος εις δωρον ψευδες ομοιαζει συννεφα και ανεμον χωρις βροχης.

By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

Δι υπομονης πειθεται ο ηγεμων και η γλυκεια γλωσσα συντριβει οστα.

Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

Ευρηκας μελι; φαγε οσον σοι ειναι αρκετον, μηποτε υπερεμπλησθης απ αυτου και εξεμεσης αυτο.

Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

Σπανιως βαλε τον ποδα σου εις τον οικον του πλησιον σου, μηποτε σε βαρυνθη και σε μισηση.

A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

Ο ανθρωπος, οστις μαρτυρει κατα του πλησιον αυτου μαρτυριαν ψευδη, ειναι ως ροπαλον και μαχαιρα και βελος οξυ.

Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

Πιστις προς απιστον εν ημερα συμφορας ειναι ως οδοντιον σεσηπος και πους εξηρθρωμενος.

As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

Ως ο εκδυομενος ιματιον εν ημερα ψυχους και το οξος επι νιτρον, ουτως ειναι ο ψαλλων ασματα εις λελυπημενην καρδιαν.

If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

Εαν πεινα ο εχθρος σου, δος εις αυτον αρτον να φαγη και εαν διψα, ποτισον αυτον υδωρ

For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

διοτι θελεις σωρευσει ανθρακας πυρος επι την κεφαλην αυτου, και ο Κυριος θελει σε ανταμειψει.

The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

Ο βορρας ανεμος εκδιωκει την βροχην το δε ωργισμενον προσωπον την υποψιθυριζουσαν γλωσσαν.

It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

Καλητερον να κατοικη τις εν γωνια δωματος, παρα εν οικω ευρυχωρω μετα γυναικος φιλεριδος.

As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

Ως υδωρ ψυχρον εις ψυχην διψωσαν, ουτως ειναι αγγελιαι αγαθαι απο μακρυνης γης.

A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

Ο δικαιος σφαλλων εμπροσθεν του ασεβους ειναι ως πηγη θολερα και βρυσις διαφθαρεισα.

It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

Καθως δεν ειναι καλον να τρωγη τις πολυ μελι, ουτω δεν ειναι ενδοξον να ζητη την ιδιαν αυτου δοξαν.

He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

Οστις δεν κρατει το πνευμα αυτου, ειναι ως πολις κατηδαφισμενη και ατειχιστος.
