Psalms 139

O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Per il capo de’ musici. Salmo di Davide. O Eterno tu m’hai investigato e mi conosci.

Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

Tu sai quando mi seggo e quando m’alzo, tu intendi da lungi il mio pensiero.

Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

Tu mi scruti quando cammino e quando mi giaccio, e conosci a fondo tutte le mie vie.

For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

Poiché la parola non è ancora sulla mia lingua, che tu, o Eterno, già la conosci appieno.

Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

Tu mi stringi di dietro e davanti, e mi metti la mano addosso.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

Una tal conoscenza è troppo maravigliosa per me, tanto alta, che io non posso arrivarci.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

Dove me ne andrò lungi dal tuo spirito? e dove fuggirò dal tuo cospetto?

If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

Se salgo in cielo tu vi sei; se mi metto a giacere nel soggiorno dei morti, eccoti quivi.

If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

Se prendo le ali dell’alba e vo a dimorare all’estremità del mare,

Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

anche quivi mi condurrà la tua mano, e la tua destra mi afferrerà.

If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

Se dico: Certo le tenebre mi nasconderanno, e la luce diventerà notte intorno a me,

Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

le tenebre stesse non possono nasconderti nulla, e la notte risplende come il giorno; le tenebre e la luce son tutt’uno per te.

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

Poiché sei tu che hai formato le mie reni, che m’hai intessuto nel seno di mia madre.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Io ti celebrerò, perché sono stato fatto in modo maraviglioso, stupendo. Maravigliose sono le tue opere, e l’anima mia lo sa molto bene.

My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Le mie ossa non t’erano nascoste, quand’io fui formato in occulto e tessuto nelle parti più basse della terra.

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

I tuoi occhi videro la massa informe del mio corpo; e nel tuo libro erano tutti scritti i giorni che m’eran destinati, quando nessun d’essi era sorto ancora.

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

Oh quanto mi son preziosi i tuoi pensieri, o Dio! Quant’è grande la somma d’essi!

If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

Se li voglio contare, son più numerosi della rena; quando mi sveglio sono ancora con te.

Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.

Certo, tu ucciderai l’empio, o Dio; perciò dipartitevi da me, uomini di sangue.

For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

Essi parlano contro di te malvagiamente; i tuoi nemici usano il tuo nome a sostener la menzogna.

Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

O Eterno, non odio io quelli che t’odiano? E non aborro io quelli che si levano contro di te?

I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

Io li odio di un odio perfetto; li tengo per miei nemici.

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

Investigami, o Dio, e conosci il mio cuore. Provami, e conosci i miei pensieri.

And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

E vedi se v’è in me qualche via iniqua, e guidami per la via eterna.
