Proverbs 22

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

La buona riputazione è da preferirsi alle molte ricchezze; e la stima, all’argento e all’oro.

The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

Il ricco e il povero s’incontrano; l’Eterno li ha fatti tutti e due.

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

L’uomo accorto vede venire il male, e si nasconde; ma i semplici tirano innanzi, e ne portan la pena.

By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

Il frutto dell’umiltà e del timor dell’Eterno è ricchezza e gloria e vita.

Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Spine e lacci sono sulla via del perverso; chi ha cura dell’anima sua se ne tien lontano.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Inculca al fanciullo la condotta che deve tenere; anche quando sarà vecchio non se e dipartirà.

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

Il ricco signoreggia sui poveri, e chi prende in prestito è schiavo di chi presta.

He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

Chi semina iniquità miete sciagura, e la verga della sua collera è infranta.

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

L’uomo dallo sguardo benevolo sarà benedetto, perché dà del suo pane al povero.

Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

Caccia via il beffardo, se n’andranno le contese, e cesseran le liti e gli oltraggi.

He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

Chi ama la purità del cuore e ha la grazia sulle labbra, ha il re per amico.

The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

Gli occhi dell’Eterno proteggono la scienza, ma egli rende vane le parole del perfido.

The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

Il pigro dice: "Là fuori c’è un leone; sarò ucciso per la strada".

The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

La bocca delle donne corrotte è una fossa profonda; colui ch’è in ira all’Eterno, vi cadrà dentro.

Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

La follia è legata al cuore del fanciullo, ma la verga della correzione l’allontanerà da lui.

He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

Chi opprime il povero, l’arricchisce; chi dona al ricco, non fa che impoverirlo.

Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

Porgi l’orecchio e ascolta le parole dei Savi ed applica il cuore alla mia scienza.

For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

Ti sarà dolce custodirle in petto, e averle tutte pronte sulle tue labbra.

That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

Ho voluto istruirti oggi, sì, proprio te, perché la tua fiducia sia posta nell’Eterno.

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

Non ho io già da tempo scritto per te consigli e insegnamenti

That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

per farti conoscere cose certe, parole vere, onde tu possa risponder parole vere a chi t’interroga?

Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

Non derubare il povero perch’è povero, e non opprimere il misero alla porta;

For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

ché l’Eterno difenderà la loro causa, e spoglierà della vita chi avrà spogliato loro.

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

Non fare amicizia con l’uomo iracondo e non andare con l’uomo violento,

Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

che tu non abbia ad imparare le sue vie e ad esporre a un’insidia l’anima tua.

Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

Non esser di quelli che dan la mano, che fanno sicurtà per debiti.

If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

Se non hai di che pagare, perché esporti a farti portar via il letto?

Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

Non spostare il termine antico, che fu messo dai tuoi padri.

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

Hai tu veduto un uomo spedito nelle sue faccende? Egli starà al servizio dei re; non starà al servizio della gente oscura.
