I Thessalonians 5

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

امّا ای دوستان، لازم نیست كه من دربارهٔ زمان و تاریخ وقوع این امور چیزی برای شما بنویسم.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

زیرا شما خوب می‌دانید كه روز خداوند مانند دزدی كه در شب می‌آید، فرا خواهد رسید.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

در آن هنگام كه مردم از صلح و امنیّت خود تعریف می‌کنند، هلاكت ناگهانی مثل درد زایمان به ایشان وارد خواهد شد و به هیچ‌وجه، جان سالم به در نخواهند برد.

But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

امّا ای دوستان، شما در تاریكی نیستید كه آن روز شما را مانند دزد غافلگیر كند،

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

زیرا همهٔ شما فرزندان روشنایی و روز هستید. ما به شب و تاریكی تعلّق نداریم.

Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

پس ما نباید مانند دیگران در خواب باشیم، بلكه باید بیدار و هوشیار باشیم.

For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

کسانی‌که می‌خوابند، در شب می‌خوابند و آنانی ‌که مست می‌شوند، در شب مست می‌شوند.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

امّا ما كه به روز تعلّق داریم باید هوشیار باشیم و ایمان و محبّت را مانند زِرِه به سینه ببندیم و امید نجات را مانند كلاهخود بر سر بگذاریم.

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

زیرا خدا ما را برای آن برنگزید كه به غضب او گرفتار شویم، بلكه ما را برگزید تا به وسیلهٔ خداوند ما عیسی مسیح نجات یابیم.

Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

او در راه ما مرد تا خواه زنده باشیم خواه مرده، با او زیست کنیم.

Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

پس همان‌گونه كه اكنون انجام می‌دهید، یكدیگر را تشویق و تقویت كنید.

And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

ای دوستان من، از شما تقاضا دارم برای آنانی كه در میان شما زحمت می‌کشند و در خداوند، رهبران و مشاوران شما هستند، احترام قایل شوید؛

And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

و از آنان به‌خاطر كاری كه می‌کنند با نهایت محبّت و احترام قدردانی نمایید. با یكدیگر در صلح و صفا زیست كنید.

Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

ای دوستان من، از شما استدعا می‌کنم افراد تنبل و بیكار را توبیخ كنید، اشخاص ترسو را دلداری دهید، از ضعیفان پشتیبانی كنید و نسبت به همهٔ مردم بردبار باشید.

See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

مواظب باشید كه هیچ‌کس بدی را با بدی تلافی نكند، بلكه هدف شما این باشد که پیوسته به یكدیگر و به همهٔ مردم نیکویی کنید.

Rejoice evermore.

همیشه شادمان باشید

Pray without ceasing.

و پیوسته دعا كنید.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

برای هرچه كه پیش می‌آید، خدا را شكر كنید. زیرا خدا در مسیح عیسی از شما همین انتظار را دارد.

Quench not the Spirit.

روح‌القدس را محدود نسازید.

Despise not prophesyings.

نبوّتها را ناچیز نشمارید.

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

همه‌چیز را بیازمایید و آنچه را كه نیكوست برای خود نگاه دارید.

Abstain from all appearance of evil.

از هر نوع بدی دوری كنید.

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

خدایی كه سرچشمهٔ آرامش است، شما را کاملاً پاک گرداند و عطا فرماید كه روح و جان و بدن شما سالم بماند تا در وقت آمدن خداوند ما عیسی مسیح، از هر نوع عیب و نقصی به دور باشید.

Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

او كه شما را به سوی خود دعوت كرده است، قابل اعتماد است و این كار را خواهد كرد.

Brethren, pray for us.

ای دوستان، برای ما دعا كنید.

Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

همهٔ ایمانداران را با بوسهٔ مقدّسانه سلام گویید.

I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

شما را به نام خداوند موظّف می‌سازم كه این نامه را برای تمام ایمانداران بخوانید.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. The first epistle unto the Thessalonians was written from Athens.

فیض خداوند ما عیسی مسیح با شما باد.
