Psalms 49

Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:

قورح کی اولاد کا زبور۔ موسیقی کے راہنما کے لئے۔ اے تمام قومو، سنو! دنیا کے تمام باشندو، دھیان دو!

Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

چھوٹے اور بڑے، امیر اور غریب سب توجہ دیں۔

My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

میرا منہ حکمت بیان کرے گا اور میرے دل کا غور و خوض سمجھ عطا کرے گا۔

I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

مَیں اپنا کان ایک کہاوت کی طرف جھکاؤں گا، سرود بجا کر اپنی پہیلی کا حل بتاؤں گا۔

Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?

مَیں خوف کیوں کھاؤں جب مصیبت کے دن آئیں اور مکاروں کا بُرا کام مجھے گھیر لے؟

They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

ایسے لوگ اپنی ملکیت پر اعتماد اور اپنی بڑی دولت پر فخر کرتے ہیں۔

None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

کوئی بھی فدیہ دے کر اپنے بھائی کی جان کو نہیں چھڑا سکتا۔ وہ اللہ کو اِس قسم کا تاوان نہیں دے سکتا۔

(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)

کیونکہ اِتنی بڑی رقم دینا اُس کے بس کی بات نہیں۔ آخرکار اُسے ہمیشہ کے لئے ایسی کوششوں سے باز آنا پڑے گا۔

That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.

چنانچہ کوئی بھی ہمیشہ کے لئے زندہ نہیں رہ سکتا، آخرکار ہر ایک موت کے گڑھے میں اُترے گا۔

For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

کیونکہ ہر ایک دیکھ سکتا ہے کہ دانش مند بھی وفات پاتے اور احمق اور ناسمجھ بھی مل کر ہلاک ہو جاتے ہیں۔ سب کو اپنی دولت دوسروں کے لئے چھوڑنی پڑتی ہے۔

Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

اُن کی قبریں ابد تک اُن کے گھر بنی رہیں گی، پشت در پشت وہ اُن میں بسے رہیں گے، گو اُنہیں زمینیں حاصل تھیں جو اُن کے نام پر تھیں۔

Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.

انسان اپنی شان و شوکت کے باوجود قائم نہیں رہتا، اُسے جانوروں کی طرح ہلاک ہونا ہے۔

This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

یہ اُن سب کی تقدیر ہے جو اپنے آپ پر اعتماد رکھتے ہیں، اور اُن سب کا انجام جو اُن کی باتیں پسند کرتے ہیں۔ (سِلاہ)

Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

اُنہیں بھیڑبکریوں کی طرح پاتال میں لایا جائے گا، اور موت اُنہیں چَرائے گی۔ کیونکہ صبح کے وقت دیانت دار اُن پر حکومت کریں گے۔ تب اُن کی شکل و صورت گھسے پھٹے کپڑے کی طرح گل سڑ جائے گی، پاتال ہی اُن کی رہائش گاہ ہو گا۔

But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.

لیکن اللہ میری جان کا فدیہ دے گا، وہ مجھے پکڑ کر پاتال کی گرفت سے چھڑائے گا۔ (سِلاہ)

Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;

مت گھبرا جب کوئی امیر ہو جائے، جب اُس کے گھر کی شان و شوکت بڑھتی جائے۔

For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.

مرتے وقت تو وہ اپنے ساتھ کچھ نہیں لے جائے گا، اُس کی شان و شوکت اُس کے ساتھ پاتال میں نہیں اُترے گی۔

Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.

بےشک وہ جیتے جی اپنے آپ کو مبارک کہے گا، اور دوسرے بھی کھاتے پیتے آدمی کی تعریف کریں گے۔

He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.

پھر بھی وہ آخرکار اپنے باپ دادا کی نسل کے پاس اُترے گا، اُن کے پاس جو دوبارہ کبھی روشنی نہیں دیکھیں گے۔

Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.

جو انسان اپنی شان و شوکت کے باوجود ناسمجھ ہے، اُسے جانوروں کی طرح ہلاک ہونا ہے۔
