Job 35

Elihu spake moreover, and said,

Poi Elihu riprese il discorso e disse:

Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

"Credi tu d’aver ragione quando dici: "Dio non si cura della mia giustizia"?

For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

Infatti hai detto: "Che mi giova? che guadagno io di più a non peccare?"

I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

Io ti darò la risposta: a te ed agli amici tuoi.

Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

Considera i cieli, e vedi! guarda le nuvole, come sono più in alto di te!

If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

Se pecchi, che torto gli fai? Se moltiplichi i tuoi misfatti, che danno gli rechi?

If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

Se sei giusto, che gli dài? Che ricev’egli dalla tua mano?

Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

La tua malvagità non nuoce che al tuo simile, e la tua giustizia non giova che ai figli degli uomini.

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

Si grida per le molte oppressioni, si levano lamenti per la violenza dei grandi;

But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

ma nessuno dice: "Dov’è Dio, il mio creatore, che nella notte concede canti di gioia,

Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

che ci fa più intelligenti delle bestie de’ campi e più savi degli uccelli del cielo?"

There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

Si grida, sì, ma egli non risponde, a motivo della superbia dei malvagi.

Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

Certo, Dio non dà ascolto a lamenti vani; l’Onnipotente non ne fa nessun caso.

Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.

E tu, quando dici che non lo scorgi, la causa tua gli sta dinanzi; sappilo aspettare!

But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:

Ma ora, perché la sua ira non punisce, perch’egli non prende rigorosa conoscenza delle trasgressioni,

Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.

Giobbe apre vanamente le labbra e accumula parole senza conoscimento".
