Proverbs 22

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

Vzácnější jest jméno dobré než bohatství veliké, a přízeň lepší než stříbro a zlato.

The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

Bohatý a chudý potkávají se, učinitel obou jest Hospodin.

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Opatrný vida zlé, vyhne se, ale hloupí předce jdouce, těžkosti docházejí.

By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

Pokory a bázně Hospodinovy odplata jest bohatství a sláva i život.

Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Trní a osídla jsou na cestě převráceného; kdož ostříhá duše své, vzdálí se od nich.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Vyučuj mladého podlé způsobu cesty jeho; nebo když se i zstará, neuchýlí se od ní.

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

Bohatý nad chudými panuje, a vypůjčující bývá služebníkem toho, jenž půjčuje.

He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

Kdo rozsívá nepravost, žíti bude trápení; prut zajisté prchlivosti jeho přestane.

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Oko dobrotivé, onoť požehnáno bude; nebo udílí z chleba svého chudému.

Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

Vyvrz posměvače, a odejdeť svada, anobrž přestane svár a lehkost.

He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

Kdo miluje čistotu srdce, a v čích rtech jest příjemnost, takového král přítelem bývá.

The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

Oči Hospodinovy ostříhají umění, ale snažnosti ošemetného převrací.

The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

Říká lenoch: Lev jest vně, naprostřed ulic byl bych zabit.

The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

Jáma hluboká ústa postranních; ten, na kohož se hněvá Hospodin, vpadne tam.

Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

Bláznovství přivázáno jest k srdci mladého, ale metla kázně vzdálí je od něho.

He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

Kdo utiská nuzného, aby rozmnožil své, a dává bohatému, jistotně bude v nouzi.

Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

Nakloň ucha svého, a slyš slova moudrých, a mysl svou přilož k učení mému.

For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

Nebo to bude utěšenou věcí, jestliže je složíš v srdci svém, budou-li spolu nastrojena ve rtech tvých.

That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

Aby bylo v Hospodinu doufání tvé, oznamujiť to dnes. I ty také ostříhej toho.

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

Zdaližť jsem nenapsal znamenitých věcí z strany rad a umění,

That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

Aťbych v známost uvedl jistotu řečí pravých, tak abys vynášeti mohl slova pravdy těm, kteříž by k tobě poslali?

Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

Nelup nuzného, proto že nuzný jest, aniž potírej chudého v bráně.

For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

Nebo Hospodin povede při jejich, a vydře duši těm, kteříž vydírají jim.

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

Nebývej přítelem hněvivého, a s mužem prchlivým neobcuj,

Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

Abys se nenaučil stezkám jeho, a nevložil osídla na duši svou.

Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

Nebývej mezi rukojměmi, mezi slibujícími za dluhy.

If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

Nemáš-li, čím bys zaplatil, proč má kdo bráti lůže tvé pod tebou?

Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

Nepřenášej mezníku starodávního, kterýž učinili otcové tvoji.

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

Vídáš-li, že muž snažný v díle svém před králi stává? Nestává před nepatrnými.
