Jesu Kristi Davids Søns, Abrahams Søns, Slægtsbog.

The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Abraham avlede Isak; og Isak avlede Jakob; og Jakob avlede Juda og hans Brødre;

Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;

og Juda avlede Fares og Zara med Thamar; og Fares avlede Esrom; og Esrom avlede Aram;

And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;

og Aram avlede Aminadab; og Aminadab avlede Nasson; og Nasson avlede Salmon;

And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;

og Salmon avlede Boas med Rakab; og Boas avlede Obed med Ruth; og Obed avlede Isaj;

And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;

og Isaj avlede Kong David; og David avlede Salomon med Urias's Hustru;

And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;

og Salomon avlede Roboam; og Roboam avlede Abia; og Abia avlede Asa;

And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;

og Asa avlede Josafat; og Josafat avlede Joram; og Joram avlede Ozias;

And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;

og Ozias avlede Joatham; og Joatham avlede Akas; og Akas avlede Ezekias;

And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;

og Ezekias avlede Manasse; og Manasse avlede Amon; og Amon avlede Josias;

And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;

og Josias avlede Jekonias og hans Brødre på den Tid, da Bortførelsen til Babylon fandt Sted.

And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:

Men efter Bortførelsen til Babylon avlede Jekonias Salathiel; og Salathiel avlede Zorobabel;

And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;

og Zorobabel avlede Abiud; og Abiud avlede Eliakim: og Eliakim avlede Azor;

And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;

og Azor avlede Sadok; og Sadok avlede Akim; og Akim avlede Eliud;

And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;

og Eliud avlede Eleazar; og Eleazar avlede Matthan; og Matthan avlede Jakob;

And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;

og Jakob avlede Josef, Marias Mand; af hende blev Jesus født, som kaldes Kristus.

And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Altså ere alle Slægtledene fra Abraham indtil David fjorten Slægtled, og fra David indtil Bortførelsen til Babylon fjorten Slægtled, og fra Bortførelsen til Babylon indtil Kristus fjorten Slægtled.

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

Men med Jesu Kristi Fødsel gik det således til. Da Maria, hans Moder, var trolovet med Josef, fandtes hun, førend de kom sammen, at være frugtsommelig af den Helligånd.

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Men da Josef, hendes Mand, var retfærdig og ikke vilde beskæmme hende offentligt, besluttede han hemmeligt at skille sig fra hende.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

Men idet han tænkte derpå, se, da viste en Herrens Engel sig for ham i en drøm og sagde: "Josef, Davids Søn! frygt ikke for at tage din Hustru Maria til dig; thi det, som er avlet i hende, er af den Helligånd.

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Og hun skal føde en Søn, og du skal kalde hans Navn Jesus; thi han skal frelse sit Folk fra deres Synder."

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Men dette er alt sammen sket, for at det skulde opfyldes, som er talt af Herren ved Profeten, som siger:

Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

"Se, Jomfruen skal blive frugtsommelig og føde en Søn, og man skal kalde hans Navn Immanuel", hvilket er udlagt: Gud med os.

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Men da Josef vågnede op at Søvnen, gjorde han, som Herrens Engel havde befalet ham, og han tog sin Hustru til sig.

Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

Og han kendte hende ikke, førend hun havde født sin Søn, den førstefødte, og han kaldte hans Navn Jesus.

And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
