Matthew 12

At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.

اُن دنوں میں عیسیٰ اناج کے کھیتوں میں سے گزر رہا تھا۔ سبت کا دن تھا۔ چلتے چلتے اُس کے شاگردوں کو بھوک لگی اور وہ اناج کی بالیں توڑ توڑ کر کھانے لگے۔

But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.

یہ دیکھ کر فریسیوں نے عیسیٰ سے شکایت کی، ”دیکھو، آپ کے شاگرد ایسا کام کر رہے ہیں جو سبت کے دن منع ہے۔“

But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”کیا تم نے نہیں پڑھا کہ داؤد نے کیا کِیا جب اُسے اور اُس کے ساتھیوں کو بھوک لگی؟

How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

وہ اللہ کے گھر میں داخل ہوا اور اپنے ساتھیوں سمیت رب کے لئے مخصوص شدہ روٹیاں کھائیں، اگرچہ اُنہیں اِس کی اجازت نہیں تھی بلکہ صرف اماموں کو؟

Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

یا کیا تم نے توریت میں نہیں پڑھا کہ گو امام سبت کے دن بیت المُقدّس میں خدمت کرتے ہوئے آرام کرنے کا حکم توڑتے ہیں توبھی وہ بےالزام ٹھہرتے ہیں؟

But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.

مَیں تمہیں بتاتا ہوں کہ یہاں وہ ہے جو بیت المُقدّس سے افضل ہے۔

But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

کلامِ مُقدّس میں لکھا ہے، ’مَیں قربانی نہیں بلکہ رحم پسند کرتا ہوں۔‘ اگر تم اِس کا مطلب سمجھتے تو بےقصوروں کو مجرم نہ ٹھہراتے۔

For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

کیونکہ ابنِ آدم سبت کا مالک ہے۔“

And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:

وہاں سے چلتے چلتے وہ اُن کے عبادت خانے میں داخل ہوا۔

And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

اُس میں ایک آدمی تھا جس کا ہاتھ سوکھا ہوا تھا۔ لوگ عیسیٰ پر الزام لگانے کا کوئی بہانہ تلاش کر رہے تھے، اِس لئے اُنہوں نے اُس سے پوچھا، ”کیا شریعت سبت کے دن شفا دینے کی اجازت دیتی ہے؟“

And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”اگر تم میں سے کسی کی بھیڑ سبت کے دن گڑھے میں گر جائے تو کیا اُسے نہیں نکالو گے؟

How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

اور بھیڑ کی نسبت انسان کی کتنی زیادہ قدر و قیمت ہے! غرض شریعت نیک کام کرنے کی اجازت دیتی ہے۔“

Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

پھر اُس نے اُس آدمی سے جس کا ہاتھ سوکھا ہوا تھا کہا، ”اپنا ہاتھ آگے بڑھا۔“ اُس نے ایسا کیا تو اُس کا ہاتھ دوسرے ہاتھ کی مانند تندرست ہو گیا۔

Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

اِس پر فریسی نکل کر آپس میں عیسیٰ کو قتل کرنے کی سازشیں کرنے لگے۔

But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;

جب عیسیٰ نے یہ جان لیا تو وہ وہاں سے چلا گیا۔ بہت سے لوگ اُس کے پیچھے چل رہے تھے۔ اُس نے اُن کے تمام مریضوں کو شفا دے کر

And charged them that they should not make him known:

اُنہیں تاکید کی، ”کسی کو میرے بارے میں نہ بتاؤ۔“

That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

یوں یسعیاہ نبی کی یہ پیش گوئی پوری ہوئی،

Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

’دیکھو، میرا خادم جسے مَیں نے چن لیا ہے، میرا پیارا جو مجھے پسند ہے۔ مَیں اپنے روح کو اُس پر ڈالوں گا، اور وہ اقوام میں انصاف کا اعلان کرے گا۔

He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.

وہ نہ تو جھگڑے گا، نہ چلّائے گا۔ گلیوں میں اُس کی آواز سنائی نہیں دے گی۔

A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.

نہ وہ کچلے ہوئے سرکنڈے کو توڑے گا، نہ بجھتی ہوئی بتی کو بجھائے گا جب تک وہ انصاف کو غلبہ نہ بخشے۔

And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

اُسی کے نام سے قومیں اُمید رکھیں گی۔‘

Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.

پھر ایک آدمی کو عیسیٰ کے پاس لایا گیا جو بدروح کی گرفت میں تھا۔ وہ اندھا اور گونگا تھا۔ عیسیٰ نے اُسے شفا دی تو گونگا بولنے اور دیکھنے لگا۔

And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

ہجوم کے تمام لوگ ہکا بکا رہ گئے اور پوچھنے لگے، ”کیا یہ ابنِ داؤد نہیں؟“

But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

لیکن جب فریسیوں نے یہ سنا تو اُنہوں نے کہا، ”یہ صرف بدروحوں کے سردار بعل زبول کی معرفت بدروحوں کو نکالتا ہے۔“

And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

اُن کے یہ خیالات جان کر عیسیٰ نے اُن سے کہا، ”جس بادشاہی میں پھوٹ پڑ جائے وہ تباہ ہو جائے گی۔ اور جس شہر یا گھرانے کی ایسی حالت ہو وہ بھی قائم نہیں رہ سکتا۔

And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

اِسی طرح اگر ابلیس اپنے آپ کو نکالے تو پھر اُس میں پھوٹ پڑ گئی ہے۔ اِس صورت میں اُس کی بادشاہی کس طرح قائم رہ سکتی ہے؟

And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.

اور اگر مَیں بدروحوں کو بعل زبول کی مدد سے نکالتا ہوں تو تمہارے بیٹے اُنہیں کس کے ذریعے نکالتے ہیں؟ چنانچہ وہی اِس بات میں تمہارے منصف ہوں گے۔

But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

لیکن اگر مَیں اللہ کے روح کی معرفت بدروحوں کو نکال دیتا ہوں تو پھر اللہ کی بادشاہی تمہارے پاس پہنچ چکی ہے۔

Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

کسی زورآور آدمی کے گھر میں گھس کر اُس کا مال و اسباب لُوٹنا کس طرح ممکن ہے جب تک کہ اُسے باندھا نہ جائے؟ پھر ہی اُسے لُوٹا جا سکتا ہے۔

He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

جو میرے ساتھ نہیں وہ میرے خلاف ہے اور جو میرے ساتھ جمع نہیں کرتا وہ بکھیرتا ہے۔

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

غرض مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ انسان کا ہر گناہ اور کفر معاف کیا جا سکے گا سوائے روح القدس کے خلاف کفر بکنے کے۔ اِسے معاف نہیں کیا جائے گا۔

And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

جو ابنِ آدم کے خلاف بات کرے اُسے معاف کیا جا سکے گا، لیکن جو روح القدس کے خلاف بات کرے اُسے نہ اِس جہان میں اور نہ آنے والے جہان میں معاف کیا جائے گا۔

Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

اچھے پھل کے لئے اچھے درخت کی ضرورت ہوتی ہے۔ خراب درخت سے خراب پھل ملتا ہے۔ درخت اُس کے پھل سے ہی پہچانا جاتا ہے۔

O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

اے سانپ کے بچو! تم جو بُرے ہو کس طرح اچھی باتیں کر سکتے ہو؟ کیونکہ جس چیز سے دل لبریز ہوتا ہے وہ چھلک کر زبان پر آ جاتی ہے۔

A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

اچھا شخص اپنے دل کے اچھے خزانے سے اچھی چیزیں نکالتا ہے جبکہ بُرا شخص اپنے بُرے خزانے سے بُری چیزیں۔

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ قیامت کے دن لوگوں کو بےپروائی سے کی گئی ہر بات کا حساب دینا پڑے گا۔

For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

تمہاری اپنی باتوں کی بنا پر تم کو راست یا ناراست ٹھہرایا جائے گا۔“

Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

پھر شریعت کے کچھ علما اور فریسیوں نے عیسیٰ سے بات کی، ”اُستاد، ہم آپ کی طرف سے الٰہی نشان دیکھنا چاہتے ہیں۔“

But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

اُس نے جواب دیا، ”صرف شریر اور زناکار نسل الٰہی نشان کا تقاضا کرتی ہے۔ لیکن اُسے کوئی بھی الٰہی نشان پیش نہیں کیا جائے گا سوائے یونس نبی کے نشان کے۔

For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

کیونکہ جس طرح یونس تین دن اور تین رات مچھلی کے پیٹ میں رہا اُسی طرح ابنِ آدم بھی تین دن اور تین رات زمین کی گود میں پڑا رہے گا۔

The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

قیامت کے دن نینوہ کے باشندے اِس نسل کے ساتھ کھڑے ہو کر اِسے مجرم ٹھہرائیں گے۔ کیونکہ یونس کے اعلان پر اُنہوں نے توبہ کی تھی جبکہ یہاں وہ ہے جو یونس سے بھی بڑا ہے۔

The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

اُس دن جنوبی ملک سبا کی ملکہ بھی اِس نسل کے ساتھ کھڑی ہو کر اِسے مجرم قرار دے گی۔ کیونکہ وہ دُوردراز ملک سے سلیمان کی حکمت سننے کے لئے آئی تھی جبکہ یہاں وہ ہے جو سلیمان سے بھی بڑا ہے۔

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

جب کوئی بدروح کسی شخص سے نکلتی ہے تو وہ ویران علاقوں میں سے گزرتی ہوئی آرام کی جگہ تلاش کرتی ہے۔ لیکن جب اُسے کوئی ایسا مقام نہیں ملتا

Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

تو وہ کہتی ہے، ’مَیں اپنے اُس گھر میں واپس چلی جاؤں گی جس میں سے نکلی تھی۔‘ وہ واپس آ کر دیکھتی ہے کہ گھر خالی ہے اور کسی نے جھاڑو دے کر سب کچھ سلیقے سے رکھ دیا ہے۔

Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

پھر وہ جا کر سات اَور بدروحیں ڈھونڈ لاتی ہے جو اُس سے بدتر ہوتی ہیں، اور وہ سب اُس شخص میں گھس کر رہنے لگتی ہیں۔ چنانچہ اب اُس آدمی کی حالت پہلے کی نسبت زیادہ بُری ہو جاتی ہے۔ اِس شریر نسل کا بھی یہی حال ہو گا۔“

While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.

عیسیٰ ابھی ہجوم سے بات کر ہی رہا تھا کہ اُس کی ماں اور بھائی باہر کھڑے اُس سے بات کرنے کی کوشش کرنے لگے۔

Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

کسی نے عیسیٰ سے کہا، ”آپ کی ماں اور بھائی باہر کھڑے ہیں اور آپ سے بات کرنا چاہتے ہیں۔“

But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

عیسیٰ نے پوچھا، ”کون ہے میری ماں اور کون ہیں میرے بھائی؟“

And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

پھر اپنے ہاتھ سے شاگردوں کی طرف اشارہ کر کے اُس نے کہا، ”دیکھو، یہ میری ماں اور میرے بھائی ہیں۔

For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

کیونکہ جو بھی میرے آسمانی باپ کی مرضی پوری کرتا ہے وہ میرا بھائی، میری بہن اور میری ماں ہے۔“
