Matthew 11

And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

اپنے شاگردوں کو یہ ہدایات دینے کے بعد عیسیٰ اُن کے شہروں میں تعلیم دینے اور منادی کرنے کے لئے روانہ ہوا۔

Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

یحییٰ نے جو اُس وقت جیل میں تھا سنا کہ عیسیٰ کیا کیا کر رہا ہے۔ اِس پر اُس نے اپنے شاگردوں کو اُس کے پاس بھیج دیا

And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

تاکہ وہ اُس سے پوچھیں، ”کیا آپ وہی ہیں جسے آنا ہے یا ہم کسی اَور کے انتظار میں رہیں؟“

Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”یحییٰ کے پاس واپس جا کر اُسے سب کچھ بتا دینا جو تم نے دیکھا اور سنا ہے۔

The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

’اندھے دیکھتے، لنگڑے چلتے پھرتے ہیں، کوڑھیوں کو پاک صاف کیا جاتا ہے، بہرے سنتے ہیں، مُردوں کو زندہ کیا جاتا ہے اور غریبوں کو اللہ کی خوش خبری سنائی جاتی ہے۔‘

And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

مبارک ہے وہ جو میرے سبب سے ٹھوکر کھا کر برگشتہ نہیں ہوتا۔“

And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

یحییٰ کے یہ شاگرد چلے گئے تو عیسیٰ ہجوم سے یحییٰ کے بارے میں بات کرنے لگا، ”تم ریگستان میں کیا دیکھنے گئے تھے؟ ایک سرکنڈا جو ہَوا کے ہر جھونکے سے ہلتا ہے؟ بےشک نہیں۔

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

یا کیا وہاں جا کر ایسے آدمی کی توقع کر رہے تھے جو نفیس اور ملائم لباس پہنے ہوئے ہے؟ نہیں، جو شاندار کپڑے پہنتے ہیں وہ شاہی محلوں میں پائے جاتے ہیں۔

But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

تو پھر تم کیا دیکھنے گئے تھے؟ ایک نبی کو؟ بالکل صحیح، بلکہ مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ وہ نبی سے بھی بڑا ہے۔

For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

اُسی کے بارے میں کلامِ مُقدّس میں لکھا ہے، ’دیکھ، مَیں اپنے پیغمبر کو تیرے آگے آگے بھیج دیتا ہوں جو تیرے سامنے راستہ تیار کرے گا۔‘

Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں کہ اِس دنیا میں پیدا ہونے والا کوئی بھی شخص یحییٰ سے بڑا نہیں ہے۔ توبھی آسمان کی بادشاہی میں داخل ہونے والا سب سے چھوٹا شخص اُس سے بڑا ہے۔

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

یحییٰ بپتسمہ دینے والے کی خدمت سے لے کر آج تک آسمان کی بادشاہی پر زبردستی کی جا رہی ہے، اور زبردست اُسے چھین رہے ہیں۔

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

کیونکہ تمام نبی اور توریت نے یحییٰ کے دور تک اِس کے بارے میں پیش گوئی کی ہے۔

And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

اور اگر تم یہ ماننے کے لئے تیار ہو تو مانو کہ وہ الیاس نبی ہے جسے آنا تھا۔

He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

جو سن سکتا ہے وہ سن لے!

But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,

مَیں اِس نسل کو کس سے تشبیہ دوں؟ وہ اُن بچوں کی مانند ہیں جو بازار میں بیٹھے کھیل رہے ہیں۔ اُن میں سے کچھ اونچی آواز سے دوسرے بچوں سے شکایت کر رہے ہیں،

And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

’ہم نے بانسری بجائی تو تم نہ ناچے۔ پھر ہم نے نوحہ کے گیت گائے، لیکن تم نے چھاتی پیٹ کر ماتم نہ کیا۔‘

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

دیکھو، یحییٰ آیا اور نہ کھایا، نہ پیا۔ یہ دیکھ کر لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ اُس میں بدروح ہے۔

The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

پھر ابنِ آدم کھاتا اور پیتا ہوا آیا۔ اب کہتے ہیں، ’دیکھو یہ کیسا پیٹو اور شرابی ہے۔ اور وہ ٹیکس لینے والوں اور گناہ گاروں کا دوست بھی ہے۔‘ لیکن حکمت اپنے اعمال سے ہی صحیح ثابت ہوئی ہے۔“

Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

پھر عیسیٰ اُن شہروں کو ڈانٹنے لگا جن میں اُس نے زیادہ معجزے کئے تھے، کیونکہ اُنہوں نے توبہ نہیں کی تھی۔

Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

”اے خرازین، تجھ پر افسوس! بیت صیدا، تجھ پر افسوس! اگر صور اور صیدا میں وہ معجزے کئے گئے ہوتے جو تم میں ہوئے تو وہاں کے لوگ کب کے ٹاٹ اوڑھ کر اور سر پر راکھ ڈال کر توبہ کر چکے ہوتے۔

But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

جی ہاں، عدالت کے دن تمہاری نسبت صور اور صیدا کا حال زیادہ قابلِ برداشت ہو گا۔

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

اور اے کفرنحوم، کیا تجھے آسمان تک سرفراز کیا جائے گا؟ ہرگز نہیں، بلکہ تُو اُترتا اُترتا پاتال تک پہنچے گا۔ اگر سدوم میں وہ معجزے کئے گئے ہوتے جو تجھ میں ہوئے ہیں تو وہ آج تک قائم رہتا۔

But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

ہاں، عدالت کے دن تیری نسبت سدوم کا حال زیادہ قابلِ برداشت ہو گا۔“

At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

اُس وقت عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”اے باپ، آسمان و زمین کے مالک! مَیں تیری تمجید کرتا ہوں کہ تُو نے یہ باتیں داناؤں اور عقل مندوں سے چھپا کر چھوٹے بچوں پر ظاہر کر دی ہیں۔

Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.

ہاں میرے باپ، یہی تجھے پسند آیا۔

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

میرے باپ نے سب کچھ میرے سپرد کر دیا ہے۔ کوئی بھی فرزند کو نہیں جانتا سوائے باپ کے۔ اور کوئی باپ کو نہیں جانتا سوائے فرزند کے اور اُن لوگوں کے جن پر فرزند باپ کو ظاہر کرنا چاہتا ہے۔

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

اے تھکے ماندے اور بوجھ تلے دبے ہوئے لوگو، سب میرے پاس آؤ! مَیں تم کو آرام دوں گا۔

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

میرا جوا اپنے اوپر اُٹھا کر مجھ سے سیکھو، کیونکہ مَیں حلیم اور نرم دل ہوں۔ یوں کرنے سے تمہاری جانیں آرام پائیں گی،

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

کیونکہ میرا جوا ملائم اور میرا بوجھ ہلکا ہے۔“
