Luke 5

And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,

ایک دن عیسیٰ گلیل کی جھیل گنیسرت کے کنارے پر کھڑا ہجوم کو اللہ کا کلام سنا رہا تھا۔ لوگ سنتے سنتے اِتنے قریب آ گئے کہ اُس کے لئے جگہ کم ہو گئی۔

And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

پھر اُسے دو کشتیاں نظر آئیں جو جھیل کے کنارے لگی تھیں۔ مچھیرے اُن میں سے اُتر چکے تھے اور اب اپنے جالوں کو دھو رہے تھے۔

And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

عیسیٰ ایک کشتی پر سوار ہوا۔ اُس نے کشتی کے مالک شمعون سے درخواست کی کہ وہ کشتی کو کنارے سے تھوڑا سا دُور لے چلے۔ پھر وہ کشتی میں بیٹھا اور ہجوم کو تعلیم دینے لگا۔

Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

تعلیم دینے کے اختتام پر اُس نے شمعون سے کہا، ”اب کشتی کو وہاں لے جا جہاں پانی گہرا ہے اور اپنے جالوں کو مچھلیاں پکڑنے کے لئے ڈال دو۔“

And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

لیکن شمعون نے اعتراض کیا، ”اُستاد، ہم نے تو پوری رات بڑی کوشش کی، لیکن ایک بھی نہ پکڑی۔ تاہم آپ کے کہنے پر مَیں جالوں کو دوبارہ ڈالوں گا۔“

And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

یہ کہہ کر اُنہوں نے گہرے پانی میں جا کر اپنے جال ڈال دیئے۔ اور واقعی، مچھلیوں کا اِتنا بڑا غول جالوں میں پھنس گیا کہ وہ پھٹنے لگے۔

And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

یہ دیکھ کر اُنہوں نے اپنے ساتھیوں کو اشارہ کر کے بُلایا تاکہ وہ دوسری کشتی میں آ کر اُن کی مدد کریں۔ وہ آئے اور سب نے مل کر دونوں کشتیوں کو اِتنی مچھلیوں سے بھر دیا کہ آخرکار دونوں ڈوبنے کے خطرے میں تھیں۔

When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

جب شمعون پطرس نے یہ سب کچھ دیکھا تو اُس نے عیسیٰ کے سامنے منہ کے بل گر کر کہا، ”خداوند، مجھ سے دُور چلے جائیں۔ مَیں تو گناہ گار ہوں۔“

For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:

کیونکہ وہ اور اُس کے ساتھی اِتنی مچھلیاں پکڑنے کی وجہ سے سخت حیران تھے۔

And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

اور زبدی کے بیٹے یعقوب اور یوحنا کی حالت بھی یہی تھی جو شمعون کے ساتھ مل کر کام کرتے تھے۔ لیکن عیسیٰ نے شمعون سے کہا، ”مت ڈر۔ اب سے تُو آدمیوں کو پکڑا کرے گا۔“

And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

وہ اپنی کشتیوں کو کنارے پر لے آئے اور سب کچھ چھوڑ کر عیسیٰ کے پیچھے ہو لئے۔

And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

ایک دن عیسیٰ کسی شہر میں سے گزر رہا تھا کہ وہاں ایک مریض ملا جس کا پورا جسم کوڑھ سے متاثر تھا۔ جب اُس نے عیسیٰ کو دیکھا تو وہ منہ کے بل گر پڑا اور التجا کی، ”اے خداوند، اگر آپ چاہیں تو مجھے پاک صاف کر سکتے ہیں۔“

And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

عیسیٰ نے اپنا ہاتھ بڑھا کر اُسے چھوا اور کہا، ”مَیں چاہتا ہوں، پاک صاف ہو جا۔“ اِس پر بیماری فوراً دُور ہو گئی۔

And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

عیسیٰ نے اُسے ہدایت کی کہ وہ کسی کو نہ بتائے کہ کیا ہوا ہے۔ اُس نے کہا، ”سیدھا بیت المُقدّس میں امام کے پاس جا تاکہ وہ تیرا معائنہ کرے۔ اپنے ساتھ وہ قربانی لے جا جس کا تقاضا موسیٰ کی شریعت اُن سے کرتی ہے جنہیں کوڑھ سے شفا ملتی ہے۔ یوں علانیہ تصدیق ہو جائے گی کہ تُو واقعی پاک صاف ہو گیا ہے۔“

But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

تاہم عیسیٰ کے بارے میں خبر اَور زیادہ تیزی سے پھیلتی گئی۔ لوگوں کے بڑے گروہ اُس کے پاس آتے رہے تاکہ اُس کی باتیں سنیں اور اُس کے ہاتھ سے شفا پائیں۔

And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

پھر بھی وہ کئی بار اُنہیں چھوڑ کر دعا کرنے کے لئے ویران جگہوں پر جایا کرتا تھا۔

And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judæa, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

ایک دن وہ لوگوں کو تعلیم دے رہا تھا۔ فریسی اور شریعت کے عالِم بھی گلیل اور یہودیہ کے ہر گاؤں اور یروشلم سے آ کر اُس کے پاس بیٹھے تھے۔ اور رب کی قدرت اُسے شفا دینے کے لئے تحریک دے رہی تھی۔

And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.

اِتنے میں کچھ آدمی ایک مفلوج کو چارپائی پر ڈال کر وہاں پہنچے۔ اُنہوں نے اُسے گھر کے اندر عیسیٰ کے سامنے رکھنے کی کوشش کی،

And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.

لیکن بےفائدہ۔ گھر میں اِتنے لوگ تھے کہ اندر جانا ناممکن تھا۔ اِس لئے وہ آخرکار چھت پر چڑھ گئے اور کچھ ٹائلیں اُدھیڑ کر چھت کا ایک حصہ کھول دیا۔ پھر اُنہوں نے چارپائی کو مفلوج سمیت ہجوم کے درمیان عیسیٰ کے سامنے اُتارا۔

And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

جب عیسیٰ نے اُن کا ایمان دیکھا تو اُس نے مفلوج سے کہا، ”اے آدمی، تیرے گناہ معاف کر دیئے گئے ہیں۔“

And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

یہ سن کر شریعت کے عالِم اور فریسی سوچ بچار میں پڑ گئے، ”یہ کس طرح کا بندہ ہے جو اِس قسم کا کفر بکتا ہے؟ صرف اللہ ہی گناہ معاف کر سکتا ہے۔“

But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?

لیکن عیسیٰ نے جان لیا کہ یہ کیا سوچ رہے ہیں، اِس لئے اُس نے پوچھا، ”تم دل میں اِس طرح کی باتیں کیوں سوچ رہے ہو؟

Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?

کیا مفلوج سے یہ کہنا زیادہ آسان ہے کہ ’تیرے گناہ معاف کر دیئے گئے ہیں‘ یا یہ کہ ’اُٹھ کر چل پھر‘؟

But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.

لیکن مَیں تم کو دکھاتا ہوں کہ ابنِ آدم کو واقعی دنیا میں گناہ معاف کرنے کا اختیار ہے۔“ یہ کہہ کر وہ مفلوج سے مخاطب ہوا، ”اُٹھ، اپنی چارپائی اُٹھا کر اپنے گھر چلا جا۔“

And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

لوگوں کے دیکھتے دیکھتے وہ آدمی کھڑا ہوا اور اپنی چارپائی اُٹھا کر اللہ کی حمد و ثنا کرتے ہوئے اپنے گھر چلا گیا۔

And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

یہ دیکھ کر سب سخت حیرت زدہ ہوئے اور اللہ کی تمجید کرنے لگے۔ اُن پر خوف چھا گیا اور وہ کہہ اُٹھے، ”آج ہم نے ناقابلِ یقین باتیں دیکھی ہیں۔“

And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.

اِس کے بعد عیسیٰ نکل کر ایک ٹیکس لینے والے کے پاس سے گزرا جو اپنی چوکی پر بیٹھا تھا۔ اُس کا نام لاوی تھا۔ اُسے دیکھ کر عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”میرے پیچھے ہو لے۔“

And he left all, rose up, and followed him.

وہ اُٹھا اور سب کچھ چھوڑ کر اُس کے پیچھے ہو لیا۔

And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.

بعد میں اُس نے اپنے گھر میں عیسیٰ کی بڑی ضیافت کی۔ بہت سے ٹیکس لینے والے اور دیگر مہمان اِس میں شریک ہوئے۔

But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

یہ دیکھ کر کچھ فریسیوں اور اُن سے تعلق رکھنے والے شریعت کے عالِموں نے عیسیٰ کے شاگردوں سے شکایت کی۔ اُنہوں نے کہا، ”تم ٹیکس لینے والوں اور گناہ گاروں کے ساتھ کیوں کھاتے پیتے ہو؟“

And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”صحت مندوں کو ڈاکٹر کی ضرورت نہیں ہوتی بلکہ مریضوں کو۔

I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

مَیں راست بازوں کو نہیں بلکہ گناہ گاروں کو بُلانے آیا ہوں تاکہ وہ توبہ کریں۔“

And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?

کچھ لوگوں نے عیسیٰ سے ایک اَور سوال پوچھا، ”یحییٰ کے شاگرد اکثر روزہ رکھتے ہیں۔ اور ساتھ ساتھ وہ دعا بھی کرتے رہتے ہیں۔ فریسیوں کے شاگرد بھی اِسی طرح کرتے ہیں۔ لیکن آپ کے شاگرد کھانے پینے کا سلسلہ جاری رکھتے ہیں۔“

And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”کیا تم شادی کے مہمانوں کو روزہ رکھنے کو کہہ سکتے ہو جب دُولھا اُن کے درمیان ہے؟ ہرگز نہیں!

But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

لیکن ایک دن آئے گا جب دُولھا اُن سے لے لیا جائے گا۔ اُس وقت وہ ضرور روزہ رکھیں گے۔“

And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.

اُس نے اُنہیں یہ مثال بھی دی، ”کون کسی نئے لباس کو پھاڑ کر اُس کا ایک ٹکڑا کسی پرانے لباس میں لگائے گا؟ کوئی بھی نہیں! اگر وہ ایسا کرے تو نہ صرف نیا لباس خراب ہو گا بلکہ اُس سے لیا گیا ٹکڑا پرانے لباس کو بھی خراب کر دے گا۔

And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

اِسی طرح کوئی بھی انگور کا تازہ رس پرانی اور بےلچک مشکوں میں نہیں ڈالے گا۔ اگر وہ ایسا کرے تو پرانی مشکیں پیدا ہونے والی گیس کے باعث پھٹ جائیں گی۔ نتیجے میں مَے اور مشکیں دونوں ضائع ہو جائیں گی۔

But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

اِس لئے انگور کا تازہ رس نئی مشکوں میں ڈالا جاتا ہے جو لچک دار ہوتی ہیں۔

No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

لیکن جو بھی پرانی مَے پینا پسند کرے وہ انگور کا نیا اور تازہ رس پسند نہیں کرے گا۔ وہ کہے گا کہ پرانی ہی بہتر ہے۔“
