Acts 16

Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:

چلتے چلتے وہ دربے پہنچا، پھر لسترہ۔ وہاں ایک شاگرد بنام تیمُتھیُس رہتا تھا۔ اُس کی یہودی ماں ایمان لائی تھی جبکہ باپ یونانی تھا۔

Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

لسترہ اور اکنیُم کے بھائیوں نے اُس کی اچھی رپورٹ دی،

Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.

اِس لئے پولس اُسے سفر پر اپنے ساتھ لے جانا چاہتا تھا۔ اُس علاقے کے یہودیوں کا لحاظ کر کے اُس نے تیمُتھیُس کا ختنہ کروایا، کیونکہ سب لوگ اِس سے واقف تھے کہ اُس کا باپ یونانی ہے۔

And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.

پھر شہر بہ شہر جا کر اُنہوں نے مقامی جماعتوں کو یروشلم کے رسولوں اور بزرگوں کے وہ فیصلے پہنچائے جن کے مطابق زندگی گزارنی تھی۔

And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

یوں جماعتیں ایمان میں مضبوط ہوئیں اور تعداد میں روز بہ روز بڑھتی گئیں۔

Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,

روح القدس نے اُنہیں صوبہ آسیہ میں کلامِ مُقدّس کی منادی کرنے سے روک لیا، اِس لئے وہ فروگیہ اور گلتیہ کے علاقے میں سے گزرے۔

After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.

موسیہ کے قریب آ کر اُنہوں نے شمال کی طرف صوبہ بِتُھنیہ میں داخل ہونے کی کوشش کی۔ لیکن عیسیٰ کے روح نے اُنہیں وہاں بھی جانے نہ دیا،

And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.

اِس لئے وہ موسیہ میں سے گزر کر بندرگاہ تروآس پہنچے۔

And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

وہاں پولس نے رات کے وقت رویا دیکھی جس میں شمالی یونان میں واقع صوبہ مکدُنیہ کا ایک آدمی کھڑا اُس سے التماس کر رہا تھا، ”سمندر کو پار کر کے مکدُنیہ آئیں اور ہماری مدد کریں!“

And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

جوں ہی اُس نے یہ رویا دیکھی ہم مکدُنیہ جانے کی تیاریاں کرنے لگے۔ کیونکہ ہم نے رویا سے یہ نتیجہ نکالا کہ اللہ نے ہمیں اُس علاقے کے لوگوں کو خوش خبری سنانے کے لئے بُلایا ہے۔

Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;

ہم تروآس میں جہاز پر سوار ہو کر سیدھے جزیرۂ سمتراکے کے لئے روانہ ہوئے۔ پھر اگلے دن آگے نکل کر نیاپلس پہنچے۔

And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.

وہاں جہاز سے اُتر کر ہم فلپی چلے گئے، جو صوبہ مکدُنیہ کے اُس ضلع کا صدر شہر تھا اور رومی نوآبادی تھا۔ اِس شہر میں ہم کچھ دن ٹھہرے۔

And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

سبت کے دن ہم شہر سے نکل کر دریا کے کنارے گئے، جہاں ہماری توقع تھی کہ یہودی دعا کے لئے جمع ہوں گے۔ وہاں ہم بیٹھ کر کچھ خواتین سے بات کرنے لگے جو اکٹھی ہوئی تھیں۔

And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

اُن میں سے تھواتیرہ شہر کی ایک عورت تھی جس کا نام لُدیہ تھا۔ اُس کا پیشہ قیمتی ارغوانی رنگ کے کپڑے کی تجارت تھا اور وہ اللہ کی پرستش کرنے والی غیریہودی تھی۔ خداوند نے اُس کے دل کو کھول دیا، اور اُس نے پولس کی باتوں پر توجہ دی۔

And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

اُس کے اور اُس کے گھر والوں کے بپتسمہ لینے کے بعد اُس نے ہمیں اپنے گھر میں ٹھہرنے کی دعوت دی۔ اُس نے کہا، ”اگر آپ سمجھتے ہیں کہ مَیں واقعی خداوند پر ایمان لائی ہوں تو میرے گھر آ کر ٹھہریں۔“ یوں اُس نے ہمیں مجبور کیا۔

And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

ایک دن ہم دعا کی جگہ کی طرف جا رہے تھے کہ ہماری ملاقات ایک لونڈی سے ہوئی جو ایک بدروح کے ذریعے لوگوں کی قسمت کا حال بتاتی تھی۔ اِس سے وہ اپنے مالکوں کے لئے بہت سے پیسے کماتی تھی۔

The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

وہ پولس اور ہمارے پیچھے پڑ کر چیخ چیخ کر کہنے لگی، ”یہ آدمی اللہ تعالیٰ کے خادم ہیں جو آپ کو نجات کی راہ بتانے آئے ہیں۔“

And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

یہ سلسلہ روز بہ روز جاری رہا۔ آخرکار پولس تنگ آ کر مُڑا اور بدروح سے کہا، ”مَیں تجھے عیسیٰ مسیح کے نام سے حکم دیتا ہوں کہ لڑکی میں سے نکل جا!“ اُسی لمحے وہ نکل گئی۔

And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,

اُس کے مالکوں کو معلوم ہوا کہ پیسے کمانے کی اُمید جاتی رہی تو وہ پولس اور سیلاس کو پکڑ کر چوک میں بیٹھے اقتدار رکھنے والوں کے سامنے گھسیٹ لے گئے۔

And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

اُنہیں مجسٹریٹوں کے سامنے پیش کر کے وہ چلّانے لگے، ”یہ آدمی ہمارے شہر میں ہل چل پیدا کر رہے ہیں۔ یہ یہودی ہیں

And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.

اور ایسے رسم و رواج کا پرچار کر رہے ہیں جنہیں قبول کرنا اور ادا کرنا ہم رومیوں کے لئے جائز نہیں۔“

And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.

ہجوم بھی آ ملا اور پولس اور سیلاس کے خلاف باتیں کرنے لگا۔ اِس پر مجسٹریٹوں نے حکم دیا کہ اُن کے کپڑے اُتارے اور اُنہیں لاٹھی سے مارا جائے۔

And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

اُنہوں نے اُن کی خوب پٹائی کروا کر اُنہیں قیدخانے میں ڈال دیا اور داروغے سے کہا کہ احتیاط سے اُن کی پہرہ داری کرو۔

Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

چنانچہ اُس نے اُنہیں جیل کے سب سے اندرونی حصے میں لے جا کر اُن کے پاؤں کاٹھ میں ڈال دیئے۔

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

اب ایسا ہوا کہ پولس اور سیلاس آدھی رات کے قریب دعا کر رہے اور اللہ کی تمجید کے گیت گا رہے تھے اور باقی قیدی سن رہے تھے۔

And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

اچانک بڑا زلزلہ آیا اور قیدخانے کی پوری عمارت بنیادوں تک ہل گئی۔ فوراً تمام دروازے کھل گئے اور تمام قیدیوں کی زنجیریں کھل گئیں۔

And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

داروغہ جاگ اُٹھا۔ جب اُس نے دیکھا کہ جیل کے دروازے کھلے ہیں تو وہ اپنی تلوار نکال کر خود کشی کرنے لگا، کیونکہ ایسا لگ رہا تھا کہ قیدی فرار ہو گئے ہیں۔

But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

لیکن پولس چلّا اُٹھا، ”مت کریں! اپنے آپ کو نقصان نہ پہنچائیں۔ ہم سب یہیں ہیں۔“

Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

داروغے نے چراغ منگوا لیا اور بھاگ کر اندر آیا۔ لرزتے لرزتے وہ پولس اور سیلاس کے سامنے گر گیا۔

And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

پھر اُنہیں باہر لے جا کر اُس نے پوچھا، ”صاحبو، مجھے نجات پانے کے لئے کیا کرنا ہے؟“

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”خداوند عیسیٰ پر ایمان لائیں تو آپ اور آپ کے گھرانے کو نجات ملے گی۔“

And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

پھر اُنہوں نے اُسے اور اُس کے تمام گھر والوں کو خداوند کا کلام سنایا۔

And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

اور رات کی اُسی گھڑی داروغے نے اُنہیں لے جا کر اُن کے زخموں کو دھویا۔ اِس کے بعد اُس کا اور اُس کے سارے گھر والوں کا بپتسمہ ہوا۔

And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

پھر اُس نے اُنہیں اپنے گھر میں لا کر کھانا کھلایا۔ اللہ پر ایمان لانے کے باعث اُس نے اور اُس کے تمام گھر والوں نے بڑی خوشی منائی۔

And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.

جب دن چڑھا تو مجسٹریٹوں نے اپنے افسروں کو داروغے کے پاس بھجوا دیا کہ وہ پولس اور سیلاس کو رِہا کرے۔

And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.

چنانچہ داروغے نے پولس کو اُن کا پیغام پہنچا دیا، ”مجسٹریٹوں نے حکم دیا ہے کہ آپ اور سیلاس کو رِہا کر دیا جائے۔ اب نکل کر سلامتی سے چلے جائیں۔“

But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.

لیکن پولس نے اعتراض کیا۔ اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ”اُنہوں نے ہمیں عوام کے سامنے ہی اور عدالت میں پیش کئے بغیر مار کر جیل میں ڈال دیا ہے حالانکہ ہم رومی شہری ہیں۔ اور اب وہ ہمیں چپکے سے نکالنا چاہتے ہیں؟ ہرگز نہیں! اب وہ خود آئیں اور ہمیں باہر لے جائیں۔“

And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.

افسروں نے مجسٹریٹوں کو یہ خبر پہنچائی۔ جب اُنہیں معلوم ہوا کہ پولس اور سیلاس رومی شہری ہیں تو وہ گھبرا گئے۔

And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.

وہ خود اُنہیں سمجھانے کے لئے آئے اور جیل سے باہر لا کر گزارش کی کہ شہر کو چھوڑ دیں۔

And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

چنانچہ پولس اور سیلاس جیل سے نکل آئے۔ لیکن پہلے وہ لُدیہ کے گھر گئے جہاں وہ بھائیوں سے ملے اور اُن کی حوصلہ افزائی کی۔ پھر وہ چلے گئے۔
