I Samuel 18

And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

اِس گفتگو کے بعد داؤد کی ملاقات بادشاہ کے بیٹے یونتن سے ہوئی۔ اُن میں فوراً گہری دوستی پیدا ہو گئی، اور یونتن داؤد کو اپنی جان کے برابر عزیز رکھنے لگا۔

And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.

اُس دن سے ساؤل نے داؤد کو اپنے دربار میں رکھ لیا اور اُسے باپ کے گھر واپس جانے نہ دیا۔

Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

اور یونتن نے داؤد سے عہد باندھا، کیونکہ وہ داؤد کو اپنی جان کے برابر عزیز رکھتا تھا۔

And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.

عہد کی تصدیق کے لئے یونتن نے اپنا چوغہ اُتار کر اُسے اپنے زرہ بکتر، تلوار، کمان اور پیٹی سمیت داؤد کو دے دیا۔

And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.

جہاں بھی ساؤل نے داؤد کو لڑنے کے لئے بھیجا وہاں وہ کامیاب ہوا۔ یہ دیکھ کر ساؤل نے اُسے فوج کا بڑا افسر بنا دیا۔ یہ بات عوام اور ساؤل کے افسروں کو پسند آئی۔

And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.

جب داؤد فلستیوں کو شکست دینے سے واپس آیا تو تمام شہروں سے عورتیں نکل کر ساؤل بادشاہ سے ملنے آئیں۔ دف اور ساز بجاتے ہوئے وہ خوشی کے گیت گا گا کر ناچنے لگیں۔

And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

اور ناچتے ناچتے وہ گاتی رہیں، ”ساؤل نے تو ہزار ہلاک کئے جبکہ داؤد نے دس ہزار۔“

And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?

ساؤل بڑے غصے میں آ گیا، کیونکہ عورتوں کا گیت اُسے نہایت بُرا لگا۔ اُس نے سوچا، ”اُن کی نظر میں داؤد نے دس ہزار ہلاک کئے جبکہ مَیں نے صرف ہزار۔ اب صرف یہ بات رہ گئی ہے کہ اُسے بادشاہ مقرر کیا جائے۔“

And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

اُس وقت سے ساؤل داؤد کو شک کی نظر سے دیکھنے لگا۔

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.

اگلے دن اللہ نے دوبارہ ساؤل پر بُری روح آنے دی، اور وہ گھر کے اندر وجد کی حالت میں آ گیا۔ داؤد معمول کے مطابق ساز بجانے لگا تاکہ بادشاہ کو سکون ملے۔ ساؤل کے ہاتھ میں نیزہ تھا۔ اچانک اُس نے اُسے پھینک کر داؤد کو دیوار کے ساتھ چھید ڈالنے کی کوشش کی۔ لیکن داؤد ایک طرف ہٹ کر بچ نکلا۔ ایک اَور دفعہ ایسا ہوا، لیکن داؤد پھر بچ گیا۔

And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.

اگلے دن اللہ نے دوبارہ ساؤل پر بُری روح آنے دی، اور وہ گھر کے اندر وجد کی حالت میں آ گیا۔ داؤد معمول کے مطابق ساز بجانے لگا تاکہ بادشاہ کو سکون ملے۔ ساؤل کے ہاتھ میں نیزہ تھا۔ اچانک اُس نے اُسے پھینک کر داؤد کو دیوار کے ساتھ چھید ڈالنے کی کوشش کی۔ لیکن داؤد ایک طرف ہٹ کر بچ نکلا۔ ایک اَور دفعہ ایسا ہوا، لیکن داؤد پھر بچ گیا۔

And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.

یہ دیکھ کر ساؤل داؤد سے ڈرنے لگا، کیونکہ اُس نے جان لیا کہ رب مجھے چھوڑ کر داؤد کا حامی بن گیا ہے۔

Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.

آخرکار اُس نے داؤد کو دربار سے دُور کر کے ہزار فوجیوں پر مقرر کر دیا۔ اِن آدمیوں کے ساتھ داؤد مختلف جنگوں کے لئے نکلتا رہا۔

And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

اور جو کچھ بھی وہ کرتا اُس میں کامیاب رہتا، کیونکہ رب اُس کے ساتھ تھا۔

Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.

جب ساؤل نے دیکھا کہ داؤد کو کتنی زیادہ کامیابی ہوئی ہے تو وہ اُس سے مزید ڈر گیا۔

But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

لیکن اسرائیل اور یہوداہ کے باقی لوگ داؤد سے بہت محبت رکھتے تھے، کیونکہ وہ ہر جنگ میں نکلتے وقت سے لے کر گھر واپس آتے وقت تک اُن کے آگے آگے چلتا تھا۔

And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD'S battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.

ایک دن ساؤل نے داؤد سے بات کی، ”مَیں اپنی بڑی بیٹی میرب کا رشتہ آپ کے ساتھ باندھنا چاہتا ہوں۔ لیکن پہلے ثابت کریں کہ آپ اچھے فوجی ہیں، جو رب کی جنگوں میں خوب حصہ لے۔“ لیکن دل ہی دل میں ساؤل نے سوچا، ”خود تو مَیں داؤد پر ہاتھ نہیں اُٹھاؤں گا، بہتر ہے کہ وہ فلستیوں کے ہاتھوں مارا جائے۔“

And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?

لیکن داؤد نے اعتراض کیا، ”مَیں کون ہوں کہ بادشاہ کا داماد بنوں؟ اسرائیل میں تو میرے خاندان اور آبائی کنبے کی کوئی حیثیت نہیں۔“

But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.

توبھی شادی کی تیاریاں کی گئیں۔ لیکن جب مقررہ وقت آ گیا تو ساؤل نے میرب کی شادی ایک اَور آدمی بنام عدری ایل محولاتی سے کروا دی۔

And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

اِتنے میں ساؤل کی چھوٹی بیٹی میکل داؤد سے محبت کرنے لگی۔ جب ساؤل کو اِس کی خبر ملی تو وہ خوش ہوا۔

And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.

اُس نے سوچا، ”اب مَیں بیٹی کا رشتہ اُس کے ساتھ باندھ کر اُسے یوں پھنسا دوں گا کہ وہ فلستیوں سے لڑتے لڑتے مر جائے گا۔“ داؤد سے اُس نے کہا، ”آج آپ کو میرا داماد بننے کا دوبارہ موقع ملے گا۔“

And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law.

پھر اُس نے اپنے ملازموں کو حکم دیا کہ وہ چپکے سے داؤد کو بتائیں، ”سنیں، آپ بادشاہ کو پسند ہیں، اور اُس کے تمام افسر بھی آپ کو پیار کرتے ہیں۔ آپ ضرور بادشاہ کی پیش کش قبول کر کے اُس کا داماد بن جائیں۔“

And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?

لیکن داؤد نے اعتراض کیا، ”کیا آپ کی دانست میں بادشاہ کا داماد بننا چھوٹی سی بات ہے؟ مَیں تو غریب آدمی ہوں، اور میری کوئی حیثیت نہیں۔“

And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.

ملازموں نے بادشاہ کے پاس واپس جا کر اُسے داؤد کے الفاظ بتائے۔

And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

ساؤل نے اُنہیں پھر داؤد کے پاس بھیج کر اُسے اطلاع دی، ”بادشاہ مَہر کے لئے پیسے نہیں مانگتا بلکہ یہ کہ آپ اُن کے دشمنوں سے بدلہ لے کر 100 فلستیوں کو قتل کر دیں۔ ثبوت کے طور پر آپ کو اُن کا ختنہ کر کے جِلد کا کٹا ہوا حصہ بادشاہ کے پاس لانا پڑے گا۔“ شرط کا مقصد یہ تھا کہ داؤد فلستیوں کے ہاتھوں مارا جائے۔

And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son in law: and the days were not expired.

جب داؤد کو یہ خبر ملی تو اُسے ساؤل کی پیش کش پسند آئی۔ مقررہ وقت سے پہلے

Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.

اُس نے اپنے آدمیوں کے ساتھ نکل کر 200 فلستیوں کو مار دیا۔ لاشوں کا ختنہ کر کے وہ جِلد کے کُل 200 ٹکڑے بادشاہ کے پاس لایا تاکہ بادشاہ کا داماد بنے۔ یہ دیکھ کر ساؤل نے اُس کی شادی میکل سے کروا دی۔

And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him.

ساؤل کو ماننا پڑا کہ رب داؤد کے ساتھ ہے اور کہ میری بیٹی میکل اُسے بہت پیار کرتی ہے۔

And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually.

تب وہ داؤد سے اَور بھی ڈرنے لگا۔ اِس کے بعد وہ جیتے جی داؤد کا دشمن بنا رہا۔

Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.

اُن دنوں میں فلستی سردار اسرائیل سے لڑتے رہے۔ لیکن جب بھی وہ جنگ کے لئے نکلے تو داؤد ساؤل کے باقی افسروں کی نسبت زیادہ کامیاب ہوتا تھا۔ نتیجے میں اُس کی شہرت پورے ملک میں پھیل گئی۔
