I Samuel 17

Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephes–dammim.

ایک دن فلستیوں نے اپنی فوج کو یہوداہ کے شہر سوکہ کے قریب جمع کیا۔ وہ اِفس دَمّیم میں خیمہ زن ہوئے جو سوکہ اور عزیقہ کے درمیان ہے۔

And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.

جواب میں ساؤل نے اپنی فوج کو بُلا کر وادیِ ایلہ میں جمع کیا۔ وہاں اسرائیل کے مرد جنگ کے لئے ترتیب سے کھڑے ہوئے۔

And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.

یوں فلستی ایک پہاڑی پر کھڑے تھے اور اسرائیلی دوسری پہاڑی پر۔ اُن کے بیچ میں وادی تھی۔

And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

پھر فلستی صفوں سے جات شہر کا پہلوان نکل کر اسرائیلیوں کے سامنے کھڑا ہوا۔ اُس کا نام جالوت تھا اور وہ 9 فٹ سے زیادہ لمبا تھا۔

And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.

اُس نے حفاظت کے لئے پیتل کی کئی چیزیں پہن رکھی تھیں: سر پر خود، دھڑ پر زرہ بکتر جو 57 کلو گرام وزنی تھا

And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders.

اور پنڈلیوں پر بکتر۔ کندھوں پر پیتل کی شمشیر لٹکی ہوئی تھی۔

And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him.

جو نیزہ وہ پکڑ کر چل رہا تھا اُس کا دستہ کھڈی کے شہتیر جیسا موٹا اور لمبا تھا، اور اُس کے لوہے کی نوک کا وزن 7 کلو گرام سے زیادہ تھا۔ جالوت کے آگے آگے ایک آدمی اُس کی ڈھال اُٹھائے چل رہا تھا۔

And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.

جالوت اسرائیلی صفوں کے سامنے رُک کر گرجا، ”تم سب کیوں لڑنے کے لئے صف آرا ہو گئے ہو؟ کیا مَیں فلستی نہیں ہوں جبکہ تم صرف ساؤل کے نوکر چاکر ہو؟ چلو، ایک آدمی کو چن کر اُسے یہاں نیچے میرے پاس بھیج دو۔

If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.

اگر وہ مجھ سے لڑ سکے اور مجھے مار دے تو ہم تمہارے غلام بن جائیں گے۔ لیکن اگر مَیں اُس پر غالب آ کر اُسے مار ڈالوں تو تم ہمارے غلام بن جاؤ گے۔

And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.

آج مَیں اسرائیلی صفوں کی بدنامی کر کے اُنہیں چیلنج کرتا ہوں کہ مجھے ایک آدمی دو جو میرے ساتھ لڑے۔“

When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.

جالوت کی یہ باتیں سن کر ساؤل اور تمام اسرائیلی گھبرا گئے، اور اُن پر دہشت طاری ہو گئی۔

Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth–lehem–judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul.

اُس وقت داؤد کا باپ یسّی کافی بوڑھا ہو چکا تھا۔ اُس کے کُل 8 بیٹے تھے، اور وہ اِفراتہ کے علاقے کے بیت لحم میں رہتا تھا۔

And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.

لیکن اُس کے تین سب سے بڑے بیٹے فلستیوں سے لڑنے کے لئے ساؤل کی فوج میں بھرتی ہو گئے تھے۔ سب سے بڑے کا نام اِلیاب، دوسرے کا ابی نداب اور تیسرے کا سمّہ تھا۔

And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.

داؤد تو سب سے چھوٹا بھائی تھا۔ وہ دوسروں کی طرح پورا وقت ساؤل کے پاس نہ گزار سکا، کیونکہ اُسے باپ کی بھیڑبکریوں کو سنبھالنے کی ذمہ داری دی گئی تھی۔ اِس لئے وہ آتا جاتا رہا۔ چنانچہ وہ موجود نہیں تھا

But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Beth–lehem.

داؤد تو سب سے چھوٹا بھائی تھا۔ وہ دوسروں کی طرح پورا وقت ساؤل کے پاس نہ گزار سکا، کیونکہ اُسے باپ کی بھیڑبکریوں کو سنبھالنے کی ذمہ داری دی گئی تھی۔ اِس لئے وہ آتا جاتا رہا۔ چنانچہ وہ موجود نہیں تھا

And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.

جب جالوت 40 دن صبح و شام اسرائیلیوں کی صفوں کے سامنے کھڑے ہو کر اُنہیں چیلنج کرتا رہا۔

And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren;

ایک دن یسّی نے داؤد سے کہا، ”بیٹا، اپنے بھائیوں کے پاس کیمپ میں جا کر اُن کا پتا کرو۔ بُھنے ہوئے اناج کے یہ 16 کلو گرام اور یہ دس روٹیاں اپنے ساتھ لے کر جلدی جلدی اُدھر پہنچ جاؤ۔

And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.

پنیر کی یہ دس ٹکیاں اُن کے کپتان کو دے دینا۔ بھائیوں کا حال معلوم کر کے اُن کی کوئی چیز واپس لے آؤ تاکہ مجھے تسلی ہو جائے کہ وہ ٹھیک ہیں۔

Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.

وہ وادیِ ایلہ میں ساؤل اور اسرائیلی فوج کے ساتھ فلستیوں سے لڑ رہے ہیں۔“

And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.

اگلے دن صبح سویرے داؤد نے ریوڑ کو کسی اَور کے سپرد کر کے سامان اُٹھایا اور یسّی کی ہدایت کے مطابق چلا گیا۔ جب وہ کیمپ کے پاس پہنچ گیا تو اسرائیلی فوجی نعرے لگا لگا کر میدانِ جنگ کے لئے نکل رہے تھے۔

For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.

وہ لڑنے کے لئے ترتیب سے کھڑے ہو گئے، اور دوسری طرف فلستی صفیں بھی تیار ہوئیں۔

And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.

یہ دیکھ کر داؤد نے اپنی چیزیں اُس آدمی کے پاس چھوڑ دیں جو لشکر کے سامان کی نگرانی کر رہا تھا، پھر بھاگ کر میدانِ جنگ میں بھائیوں سے ملنے چلا گیا۔ وہ ابھی اُن کا حال پوچھ ہی رہا تھا

And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.

کہ جاتی جالوت معمول کے مطابق فلستیوں کی صفوں سے نکل کر اسرائیلیوں کے سامنے وہی طنز کی باتیں بکنے لگا۔ داؤد نے بھی اُس کی باتیں سنیں۔

And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.

جالوت کو دیکھتے ہی اسرائیلیوں کے رونگٹے کھڑے ہو گئے، اور وہ بھاگ کر

And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.

آپس میں کہنے لگے، ”کیا آپ نے اِس آدمی کو ہماری طرف بڑھتے ہوئے دیکھا؟ سنیں کہ وہ کس طرح ہماری بدنامی کر کے ہمیں چیلنج کر رہا ہے۔ بادشاہ نے اعلان کیا ہے کہ جو شخص اِسے مار دے اُسے بڑا اجر ملے گا۔ شہزادی سے اُس کی شادی ہو گی، اور آئندہ اُس کے پاپ کے خاندان کو ٹیکس نہیں دینا پڑے گا۔“

And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?

داؤد نے ساتھ والے فوجیوں سے پوچھا، ”کیا کہہ رہے ہیں؟ اُس آدمی کو کیا انعام ملے گا جو اِس فلستی کو مار کر ہماری قوم کی رُسوائی دُور کرے گا؟ یہ نامختون فلستی کون ہے کہ زندہ خدا کی فوج کی بدنامی کر کے اُسے چیلنج کرے!“

And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.

لوگوں نے دوبارہ داؤد کو بتایا کہ بادشاہ اُس آدمی کو کیا دے گا جو جالوت کو مار ڈالے گا۔

And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

جب داؤد کے بڑے بھائی اِلیاب نے داؤد کی باتیں سنیں تو اُسے غصہ آیا اور وہ اُسے جھڑکنے لگا، ”تُو کیوں آیا ہے؟ بیابان میں اپنی چند ایک بھیڑبکریوں کو کس کے پاس چھوڑ آیا ہے؟ مَیں تیری شوخی اور دل کی شرارت خوب جانتا ہوں۔ تُو صرف جنگ کا تماشا دیکھنے آیا ہے!“

And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

داؤد نے پوچھا، ”اب مجھ سے کیا غلطی ہوئی؟ مَیں نے تو صرف سوال پوچھا۔“

And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.

وہ اُس سے مُڑ کر کسی اَور کے پاس گیا اور وہی بات پوچھنے لگا۔ وہی جواب ملا۔

And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.

داؤد کی یہ باتیں سن کر کسی نے ساؤل کو اطلاع دی۔ ساؤل نے اُسے فوراً بُلایا۔

And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.

داؤد نے بادشاہ سے کہا، ”کسی کو اِس فلستی کی وجہ سے ہمت نہیں ہارنا چاہئے۔ مَیں اُس سے لڑوں گا۔“

And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

ساؤل بولا، ”آپ؟ آپ جیسا لڑکا کس طرح اُس کا مقابلہ کر سکتا ہے؟ آپ تو ابھی بچے سے ہو جبکہ وہ تجربہ کار جنگجو ہے جو جوانی سے ہتھیار استعمال کرتا آیا ہے۔“

And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

لیکن داؤد نے اصرار کیا، ”مَیں اپنے باپ کی بھیڑبکریوں کی نگرانی کرتا ہوں۔ جب کبھی کوئی شیرببر یا ریچھ ریوڑ کا جانور چھین کر بھاگ جاتا

And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

تو مَیں اُس کے پیچھے جاتا اور اُسے مار مار کر بھیڑ کو اُس کے منہ سے چھڑا لیتا تھا۔ اگر شیر یا ریچھ جواب میں مجھ پر حملہ کرتا تو مَیں اُس کے سر کے بالوں کو پکڑ کر اُسے مار دیتا تھا۔

Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

اِس طرح آپ کے خادم نے کئی شیروں اور ریچھوں کو مار ڈالا ہے۔ یہ نامختون بھی اُن کی طرح ہلاک ہو جائے گا، کیونکہ اُس نے زندہ خدا کی فوج کی بدنامی کر کے اُسے چیلنج کیا ہے۔

David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

جس رب نے مجھے شیر اور ریچھ کے پنجے سے بچا لیا ہے وہ مجھے اِس فلستی کے ہاتھ سے بھی بچائے گا۔“ ساؤل بولا، ”ٹھیک ہے، جائیں اور رب آپ کے ساتھ ہو۔“

And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.

اُس نے داؤد کو اپنا زرہ بکتر اور پیتل کا خود پہنایا۔

And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

پھر داؤد نے ساؤل کی تلوار باندھ کر چلنے کی کوشش کی۔ لیکن اُسے بہت مشکل لگ رہا تھا۔ اُس نے ساؤل سے کہا، ”مَیں یہ چیزیں پہن کر نہیں لڑ سکتا، کیونکہ مَیں اِن کا عادی نہیں ہوں۔“ اُنہیں اُتار کر

And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

اُس نے ندی سے پانچ چِکنے چِکنے پتھر چن کر اُنہیں اپنی چرواہے کی تھیلی میں ڈال لیا۔ پھر چرواہے کی اپنی لاٹھی اور فلاخن پکڑ کر وہ دیو سے لڑنے کے لئے اسرائیلی صفوں سے نکلا۔

And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.

جالوت داؤد کی جانب بڑھا۔ ڈھال کو اُٹھانے والا اُس کے آگے آگے چل رہا تھا۔

And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.

اُس نے حقارت آمیز نظروں سے داؤد کا جائزہ لیا، کیونکہ وہ گورا اور خوب صورت نوجوان تھا۔

And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

وہ گرجا، ”کیا مَیں کُتا ہوں کہ تُو لاٹھی لے کر میرا مقابلہ کرنے آیا ہے؟“ اپنے دیوتاؤں کے نام لے کر وہ داؤد پر لعنت بھیج کر

And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.

چلّایا، ”اِدھر آ تاکہ مَیں تیرا گوشت پرندوں اور جنگلی جانوروں کو کھلاؤں۔“

Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

داؤد نے جواب دیا، ”آپ تلوار، نیزہ اور شمشیر لے کر میرا مقابلہ کرنے آئے ہیں، لیکن مَیں رب الافواج کا نام لے کر آتا ہوں، اُسی کا نام جو اسرائیلی فوج کا خدا ہے۔ کیونکہ آپ نے اُسی کو چیلنج کیا ہے۔

This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

آج ہی رب آپ کو میرے ہاتھ میں کر دے گا، اور مَیں آپ کا سر قلم کر دوں گا۔ اِسی دن مَیں فلستی فوجیوں کی لاشیں پرندوں اور جنگلی جانوروں کو کھلا دوں گا۔ تب تمام دنیا جان لے گی کہ اسرائیل کا خدا ہے۔

And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands.

سب جو یہاں موجود ہیں پہچان لیں گے کہ رب کو ہمیں بچانے کے لئے تلوار یا نیزے کی ضرورت نہیں ہوتی۔ وہ خود ہی جنگ کر رہا ہے، اور وہی آپ کو ہمارے قبضے میں کر دے گا۔“

And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

جالوت داؤد پر حملہ کرنے کے لئے آگے بڑھا، اور داؤد بھی اُس کی طرف دوڑا۔

And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

چلتے چلتے اُس نے اپنی تھیلی سے پتھر نکالا اور اُسے فلاخن میں رکھ کر زور سے چلایا۔ پتھر اُڑتا اُڑتا دیو کے ماتھے پر جا لگا۔ وہ کھوپڑی میں دھنس گیا، اور دیو منہ کے بل گر گیا۔

So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

یوں داؤد فلاخن اور پتھر سے فلستی دیو پر غالب آیا۔ تب اُس نے جالوت کی طرف دوڑ کر اُسی کی تلوار میان سے کھینچ کر دیو کا سر کاٹ ڈالا۔ جب فلستیوں نے دیکھا کہ ہمارا پہلوان ہلاک ہو گیا ہے تو وہ بھاگ نکلے۔

Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

یوں داؤد فلاخن اور پتھر سے فلستی دیو پر غالب آیا۔ تب اُس نے جالوت کی طرف دوڑ کر اُسی کی تلوار میان سے کھینچ کر دیو کا سر کاٹ ڈالا۔ جب فلستیوں نے دیکھا کہ ہمارا پہلوان ہلاک ہو گیا ہے تو وہ بھاگ نکلے۔

And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.

اسرائیل اور یہوداہ کے مرد فتح کے نعرے لگا لگا کر فلستیوں پر ٹوٹ پڑے۔ اُن کا تعاقب کرتے کرتے وہ جات اور عقرون کے دروازوں تک پہنچ گئے۔ جو راستہ شعریم سے جات اور عقرون تک جاتا ہے اُس پر ہر طرف فلستیوں کی لاشیں نظر آئیں۔

And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.

پھر اسرائیلیوں نے واپس آ کر فلستیوں کی چھوڑی ہوئی لشکرگاہ کو لُوٹ لیا۔

And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.

بعد میں داؤد جالوت کا سر یروشلم کو لے آیا۔ دیو کے ہتھیار اُس نے اپنے خیمے میں رکھ لئے۔

And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.

جب داؤد جالوت سے لڑنے گیا تو ساؤل نے فوج کے کمانڈر ابنیر سے پوچھا، ”اِس جوان آدمی کا باپ کون ہے؟“ ابنیر نے جواب دیا، ”آپ کی حیات کی قَسم، مجھے معلوم نہیں۔“

And the king said, Enquire thou whose son the stripling is.

بادشاہ بولا، ”پھر پتا کریں!“

And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.

جب داؤد دیو کا سر قلم کر کے واپس آیا تو ابنیر اُسے بادشاہ کے پاس لایا۔ داؤد ابھی جالوت کا سر اُٹھائے پھر رہا تھا۔

And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Beth–lehemite.

ساؤل نے پوچھا، ”آپ کا باپ کون ہے؟“ داؤد نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں بیت لحم کے رہنے والے آپ کے خادم یسّی کا بیٹا ہوں۔“
