Job 8

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

Tedy odpovídaje Bildad Suchský, řekl:

How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

Dokudž mluviti budeš takové věci, a slova úst tvých budou jako vítr násilný?

Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?

Což by Bůh silný neprávě soudil,a Všemohoucí což by převracel spravedlnost?

If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;

Synové zajisté tvoji že zhřešili proti němu, proto pustil je po nepravosti jejich.

If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;

Kdybys ty opravdově hledal Boha silného, a Všemohoucímu se modlil,

If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

A byl čistý a upřímý: jistě žeť by se hned probudil k tobě, a napravil by příbytek spravedlnosti tvé.

Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.

A byly by první věci tvé špatné, poslední pak rozmnožily by se náramně.

For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:

Nebo vzeptej se, prosím, věku starého, a nastroj se k zpytování otců jejich.

(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

(Myť zajisté včerejší jsme, aniž jsme čeho povědomi; k tomu dnové naši jsou jako stín na zemi.)

Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

Zdaliž tě oni nenaučí, a nepovědí tobě, a z srdce svého nevynesou-liž slov?

Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?

Zdali roste třtí bez bahna? Roste-liž rákosí bez vody?

Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.

Nýbrž ještě za zelena, dříve než vytrháno bývá, ano prvé než jaká jiná tráva, usychá.

So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

Tak stezky všech zapomínajících se na Boha silného, tak, pravím, naděje pokrytce zahyne.

Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.

Klesne naděje jeho, a doufání jeho jako dům pavouka.

He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

Spolehne-li na dům svůj, neostojí; chytí-li se ho, nezdrží.

He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.

Vláhu má před sluncem, tak že z zahrady jeho výstřelkové jeho vynikají.

His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.

Při vrchovišti kořenové jeho hustě rostou, i na místech skalnatých rozkládá se.

If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.

A však bývá-li zachvácen z místa svého, až by se ho i odečtlo, řka: Nevidělo jsem tě:

Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.

Tožť ta radost života jeho, a z země jiný vykvetá.

Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:

Aj, Bůh silný nepohrdá upřímým, ale nešlechetným ruky nepodává:

Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.

Až i naplní smíchem ústa tvá, a rty tvé plésáním,

They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.

Když nenávidící tebe v hanbu oblečeni budou, a stánku lidí bezbožných nikdež nebude.
