Proverbs 18

جو دوسروں سے الگ ہو جائے وہ اپنے ذاتی مقاصد پورے کرنا چاہتا اور سمجھ کی ہر بات پر جھگڑنے لگتا ہے۔

Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

احمق سمجھ سے لطف اندوز نہیں ہوتا بلکہ صرف اپنے دل کی باتیں دوسروں پر ظاہر کرنے سے۔

A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

جہاں بےدین آئے وہاں حقارت بھی آ موجود ہوتی، اور جہاں رُسوائی ہو وہاں طعنہ زنی بھی ہوتی ہے۔

When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

انسان کے الفاظ گہرا پانی ہیں، حکمت کا سرچشمہ بہتی ہوئی ندی ہے۔

The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

بےدین کی جانب داری کر کے راست باز کا حق مارنا غلط ہے۔

It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

احمق کے ہونٹ لڑائی جھگڑا پیدا کرتے ہیں، اُس کا منہ زور سے پٹائی کا مطالبہ کرتا ہے۔

A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

احمق کا منہ اُس کی تباہی کا باعث ہے، اُس کے ہونٹ ایسا پھندا ہیں جس میں اُس کی اپنی جان اُلجھ جاتی ہے۔

A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

تہمت لگانے والے کی باتیں لذیذ کھانے کے لقموں کی مانند ہیں، وہ دل کی تہہ تک اُتر جاتی ہیں۔

The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

جو اپنے کام میں ذرا بھی ڈھیلا ہو جائے، اُسے یاد رہے کہ ڈھیلے پن کا بھائی تباہی ہے۔

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

رب کا نام مضبوط بُرج ہے جس میں راست باز بھاگ کر محفوظ رہتا ہے۔

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

امیر سمجھتا ہے کہ میری دولت میرا قلعہ بند شہر اور میری اونچی چاردیواری ہے جس میں مَیں محفوظ ہوں۔

The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

تباہ ہونے سے پہلے انسان کا دل مغرور ہو جاتا ہے، عزت ملنے سے پہلے لازم ہے کہ وہ فروتن ہو جائے۔

Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.

دوسرے کی بات سننے سے پہلے جواب دینا حماقت ہے۔ جو ایسا کرے اُس کی رُسوائی ہو جائے گی۔

He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

بیمار ہوتے وقت انسان کی روح جسم کی پرورش کرتی ہے، لیکن اگر روح شکستہ ہو تو پھر کون اُس کو سہارا دے گا؟

The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

سمجھ دار کا دل علم اپناتا اور دانش مند کا کان عرفان کا کھوج لگاتا رہتا ہے۔

The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

تحفہ راستہ کھول کر دینے والے کو بڑوں تک پہنچا دیتا ہے۔

A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

جو عدالت میں پہلے اپنا موقف پیش کرے وہ اُس وقت تک حق بجانب لگتا ہے جب تک دوسرا فریق سامنے آ کر اُس کی ہر بات کی تحقیق نہ کرے۔

He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

قرعہ ڈالنے سے جھگڑے ختم ہو جاتے اور بڑوں کا ایک دوسرے سے لڑنے کا خطرہ دُور ہو جاتا ہے۔

The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

جس بھائی کو ایک دفعہ مایوس کر دیا جائے اُسے دوبارہ جیت لینا قلعہ بند شہر پر فتح پانے سے زیادہ دشوار ہے۔ جھگڑے حل کرنا بُرج کے کنڈے توڑنے کی طرح مشکل ہے۔

A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

انسان اپنے منہ کے پھل سے سیر ہو جائے گا، وہ اپنے ہونٹوں کی پیداوار کو جی بھر کر کھائے گا۔

A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

زبان کا زندگی اور موت پر اختیار ہے، جو اُسے پیار کرے وہ اُس کا پھل بھی کھائے گا۔

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

جسے بیوی ملی اُسے اچھی نعمت ملی، اور اُسے رب کی منظوری حاصل ہوئی۔

Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

غریب منت کرتے کرتے اپنا معاملہ پیش کرتا ہے، لیکن امیر کا جواب سخت ہوتا ہے۔

The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.

کئی دوست تجھے تباہ کرتے ہیں، لیکن ایسے بھی ہیں جو تجھ سے بھائی سے زیادہ لپٹے رہتے ہیں۔

A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
