I Samuel 18

And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

Ða-vít vừa tâu xong cùng Sau-lơ, thì lòng của Giô-na-than khế hiệp cùng lòng Ða-vít, đến đỗi Giô-na-than yêu mến Ða-vít như mạng sống mình.

And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.

Từ ngày đó, Sau-lơ rước Ða-vít về đền mình, không cho trở về nhà cha người nữa.

Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

Giô-na-than kế hiệp cùng Ða-vít, bởi vì yêu mến người như mạng sống mình.

And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.

Người cổi áo mình mặc mà trao cho Ða-vít, luôn với áo xống khác, cho đến gươm, cung, và đai của mình nữa.

And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.

Ða-vít đi đánh giº·c nhiều: bất luận nơi nào Sau-lơ sai người đi, thì đều được việc, nên Sau-lơ đặt người làm đầu chiến sĩ; người đẹp ý bá tánh và những tôi tớ của Sau-lơ.

And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.

Khi Ða-vít đã giết được người Phi-li-tin, trở về cùng đạo binh, thì những người nữ của các thành Y-sơ-ra-ên đi ra đón Sau-lơ, hát múa, đánh trống cơm, gõ nhịp, và reo tiếng vui mừng.

And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

Những người múa đối đáp nhau rằng: Sau-lơ giết hàng ngàn, Còn Ða-vít giết hàng vạn!

And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?

Sau-lơ lấy làm giận lắm, và các lời nầy không đẹp lòng người. Người nói: Người ta cho Ða-vít hàng vạn, còn ta hàng ngàn; chỉ còn thiếu cho nó ngôi nước mà thôi!

And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

Kể từ ngày ấy, Sau-lơ thường ngó Ða-vít cách giận.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.

Ngày mai, ác thần bởi Ðức Chúa Trời khiến nhập vào Sau-lơ; người có cơn sốt hoảng trong đền mình, thì Ða-vít gảy đờn như những ngày khác. Sau-lơ cầm một cây giáo nơi tay,

And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.

bèn phóng Ða-vít, mà rằng: Ta sẽ đóng đinh nó nơi vách. Nhưng Ða-vít tránh hai lần khỏi mũi giáo.

And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.

Sau-lơ sợ Ða-vít, vì Ðức Giê-hô-va ở cùng Ða-vít, và đã lìa khỏi mình.

Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.

Sau-lơ khiến Ða-vít cách xa mình, lập người làm trưởng ngàn người: Ða-vít ra trận trở về thì đứng đầu đạo binh.

And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

Trong các công việc, người đều được may mắn, và Ðức Giê-hô-va ở cùng người.

Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.

Sau-lơ thấy người được may mắn dường ấy, thì lấy làm sợ người.

But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

Nhưng cả Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa đều yêu mến Ða-vít, bởi vì người ra trận trở về đứng đầu chúng.

And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD'S battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.

Sau-lơ nói cùng Ða-vít rằng: Nầy Mê-ráp, con gái cả ta; ta sẽ gả nó cho ngươi làm vợ. Chỉ phải giúp ta cách mạnh bạo và đánh giặc cho Ðức Giê-hô-va. Vả, Sau-lơ nói thầm rằng: Tay ta chớ nên hành hại hắn, nhưng thà tay của dân Phi-li-tin còn hơn.

And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?

Ða-vít thưa rằng: Tôi là ai? Thân phận tôi là gì? Họ hàng cha tôi nơi Y-sơ-ra-ên ra chi mà tôi trở nên phò mã của vua?

But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.

Vả, khi đến kỳ Mê-ráp, con gái của Sau-lơ, phải gả cho Ða-vít, thì lại gả cho Át-ri-ên, người Mê-hô-la.

And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

Nhưng Mi-canh, con gái của Sau-lơ, yêu mến Ða-vít. Khi Sau-lơ hay điều đó, thì lấy làm đẹp lòng.

And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.

Người nói thầm rằng: Ta sẽ biểu hắn cưới nàng, hầu cho nàng làm cái bẫy cho hắn, và hắn sa vào tay của dân Phi-li-tin. Vậy, Sau-lơ nói lần thứ nhì cùng Ða-vít rằng: Ngươi sẽ làm phò mã ta.

And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law.

Ðoạn, Sau-lơ truyền lịnh cho các tôi tớ mình rằng: Hãy nói kín cùng Ða-vít rằng: Ngươi thấy vua lấy làm đẹp lòng ngươi, và hết thảy tôi tớ vua đều yêu mến ngươi: vậy, hãy làm phò mã của vua.

And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?

Các tôi tớ của Sau-lơ nói lại các lời ấy cùng Ða-vít. Ða-vít đáp rằng: Làm phò mã của vua, há là việc nhỏ mọn trước mặt các ngươi sao? Tôi vốn một người nghèo nàn và hèn tiện.

And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.

Các tôi tớ của Sau-lơ thuật lại cho vua câu trả lời của Ða-vít.

And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

Sau-lơ nói cùng chúng rằng: Các ngươi hãy nói cùng Ða-vít như vầy: Vua chẳng đòi sính lễ gì khác, chỉ đòi một trăm dương bì của người Phi-li-tin, đặng trả thù kẻ cừu địch mình. Vả, cái mưu của Sau-lơ là khiến cho Ða-vít sa vào tay dân Phi-li-tin.

And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son in law: and the days were not expired.

Các tôi tớ kể lại những lời nầy cho Ða-vít nghe, thì Ða-vít chìu theo sự buộc ấy mà làm phò mã của vua. Trước kỳ định,

Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.

Ða-vít chổi dậy, cùng quân thủ hạ mình đi đánh giết hai trăm ngươi Phi-li-tin. Người đem dương bì của chúng nó về, và nộp cho vua đủ số, đặng trở làm phò mã người. Vậy, Sau-lơ gả Mi-canh, con gái mình, cho người làm vợ.

And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him.

Sau-lơ nhìn biết Ðức Giê-hô-va ở cùng Ða-vít. Mi-canh, con gái của Sau-lơ, yêu mến Ða-vít.

And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually.

Nhưng Sau-lơ càng sợ Ða-vít hơn nữa, và trọn đời mình làm kẻ thù nghịch người.

Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.

Mỗi lần các quan trưởng dân Phi-li-tin ra trận, thì Ða-vít may mắn hơn các tôi tớ của Sau-lơ; vì vậy danh người trở nên tôn trọng lắm.
