John 20

The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

ہفتے کا دن گزر گیا تو اتوار کو مریم مگدلینی صبح سویرے قبر کے پاس آئی۔ ابھی اندھیرا تھا۔ وہاں پہنچ کر اُس نے دیکھا کہ قبر کے منہ پر کا پتھر ایک طرف ہٹایا گیا ہے۔

Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

مریم دوڑ کر شمعون پطرس اور عیسیٰ کو پیارے شاگرد کے پاس آئی۔ اُس نے اطلاع دی، ”وہ خداوند کو قبر سے لے گئے ہیں، اور ہمیں معلوم نہیں کہ اُنہوں نے اُسے کہاں رکھ دیا ہے۔“

Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.

تب پطرس دوسرے شاگرد سمیت قبر کی طرف چل پڑا۔

So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.

دونوں دوڑ رہے تھے، لیکن دوسرا شاگرد زیادہ تیز رفتار تھا۔ وہ پہلے قبر پر پہنچ گیا۔

And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.

اُس نے جھک کر اندر جھانکا تو کفن کی پٹیاں وہاں پڑی نظر آئیں۔ لیکن وہ اندر نہ گیا۔

Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,

پھر شمعون پطرس اُس کے پیچھے پہنچ کر قبر میں داخل ہوا۔ اُس نے بھی دیکھا کہ کفن کی پٹیاں وہاں پڑی ہیں

And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

اور ساتھ وہ کپڑا بھی جس میں عیسیٰ کا سر لپٹا ہوا تھا۔ یہ کپڑا تہہ کیا گیا تھا اور پٹیوں سے الگ پڑا تھا۔

Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.

پھر دوسرا شاگرد جو پہلے پہنچ گیا تھا، وہ بھی داخل ہوا۔ جب اُس نے یہ دیکھا تو وہ ایمان لایا۔

For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

(لیکن اب بھی وہ کلامِ مُقدّس کی یہ پیش گوئی نہیں سمجھتے تھے کہ اُسے مُردوں میں سے جی اُٹھنا ہے۔)

Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

پھر دونوں شاگرد گھر واپس چلے گئے۔

But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

لیکن مریم رو رو کر قبر کے سامنے کھڑی رہی۔ اور روتے ہوئے اُس نے جھک کر قبر میں جھانکا

And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

تو کیا دیکھتی ہے کہ دو فرشتے سفید لباس پہنے ہوئے وہاں بیٹھے ہیں جہاں پہلے عیسیٰ کی لاش پڑی تھی، ایک اُس کے سرہانے اور دوسرا وہاں جہاں پہلے اُس کے پاؤں تھے۔

And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

اُنہوں نے مریم سے پوچھا، ”اے خاتون، تُو کیوں رو رہی ہے؟“ اُس نے کہا، ”وہ میرے خداوند کو لے گئے ہیں، اور معلوم نہیں کہ اُنہوں نے اُسے کہاں رکھ دیا ہے۔“

And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

پھر اُس نے پیچھے مُڑ کر عیسیٰ کو وہاں کھڑے دیکھا، لیکن اُس نے اُسے نہ پہچانا۔

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

عیسیٰ نے پوچھا، ”اے خاتون، تُو کیوں رو رہی ہے، کس کو ڈھونڈ رہی ہے؟“ یہ سوچ کر کہ وہ مالی ہے اُس نے کہا، ”جناب، اگر آپ اُسے لے گئے ہیں تو مجھے بتا دیں کہ اُسے کہاں رکھ دیا ہے تاکہ اُسے لے جاؤں۔“

Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

عیسیٰ نے اُس سے کہا، ”مریم!“ وہ اُس کی طرف مُڑی اور بول اُٹھی، ”ربونی!“ (اِس کا مطلب اَرامی زبان میں اُستاد ہے۔)

Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”میرے ساتھ چمٹی نہ رہ، کیونکہ ابھی مَیں اوپر، باپ کے پاس نہیں گیا۔ لیکن بھائیوں کے پاس جا اور اُنہیں بتا، ’مَیں اپنے باپ اور تمہارے باپ کے پاس واپس جا رہا ہوں، اپنے خدا اور تمہارے خدا کے پاس‘۔“

Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

چنانچہ مریم مگدلینی شاگردوں کے پاس گئی اور اُنہیں اطلاع دی، ”مَیں نے خداوند کو دیکھا ہے اور اُس نے مجھ سے یہ باتیں کہیں۔“

Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

اُس اتوار کی شام کو شاگرد جمع تھے۔ اُنہوں نے دروازوں پر تالے لگا دیئے تھے کیونکہ وہ یہودیوں سے ڈرتے تھے۔ اچانک عیسیٰ اُن کے درمیان آ کھڑا ہوا اور کہا، ”تمہاری سلامتی ہو،“

And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.

اور اُنہیں اپنے ہاتھوں اور پہلو کو دکھایا۔ خداوند کو دیکھ کر وہ نہایت خوش ہوئے۔

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

عیسیٰ نے دوبارہ کہا، ”تمہاری سلامتی ہو! جس طرح باپ نے مجھے بھیجا اُسی طرح مَیں تم کو بھیج رہا ہوں۔“

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

پھر اُن پر پھونک کر اُس نے فرمایا، ”روح القدس کو پا لو۔

Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

اگر تم کسی کے گناہوں کو معاف کرو تو وہ معاف کئے جائیں گے۔ اور اگر تم اُنہیں معاف نہ کرو تو وہ معاف نہیں کئے جائیں گے۔“

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

بارہ شاگردوں میں سے توما جس کا لقب جُڑواں تھا عیسیٰ کے آنے پر موجود نہ تھا۔

The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

چنانچہ دوسرے شاگردوں نے اُسے بتایا، ”ہم نے خداوند کو دیکھا ہے!“ لیکن توما نے کہا، ”مجھے یقین نہیں آتا۔ پہلے مجھے اُس کے ہاتھوں میں کیلوں کے نشان نظر آئیں اور مَیں اُن میں اپنی اُنگلی ڈالوں، پہلے مَیں اپنے ہاتھ کو اُس کے پہلو کے زخم میں ڈالوں۔ پھر ہی مجھے یقین آئے گا۔“

And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

ایک ہفتہ گزر گیا۔ شاگرد دوبارہ مکان میں جمع تھے۔ اِس مرتبہ توما بھی ساتھ تھا۔ اگرچہ دروازوں پر تالے لگے تھے پھر بھی عیسیٰ اُن کے درمیان آ کر کھڑا ہوا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”تمہاری سلامتی ہو!“

Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

پھر وہ توما سے مخاطب ہوا، ”اپنی اُنگلی کو میرے ہاتھوں اور اپنے ہاتھ کو میرے پہلو کے زخم میں ڈال اور بےاعتقاد نہ ہو بلکہ ایمان رکھ۔“

And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

توما نے جواب میں اُس سے کہا، ”اے میرے خداوند! اے میرے خدا!“

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

پھر عیسیٰ نے اُسے بتایا، ”کیا تُو اِس لئے ایمان لایا ہے کہ تُو نے مجھے دیکھا ہے؟ مبارک ہیں وہ جو مجھے دیکھے بغیر مجھ پر ایمان لاتے ہیں۔“

And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

عیسیٰ نے اپنے شاگردوں کی موجودگی میں مزید بہت سے ایسے الٰہی نشان دکھائے جو اِس کتاب میں درج نہیں ہیں۔

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

لیکن جتنے درج ہیں اُن کا مقصد یہ ہے کہ آپ ایمان لائیں کہ عیسیٰ ہی مسیح یعنی اللہ کا فرزند ہے اور آپ کو اِس ایمان کے وسیلے سے اُس کے نام سے زندگی حاصل ہو۔
