Acts 27

And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band.

جب ہمارا اٹلی کے لئے سفر متعین کیا گیا تو پولس کو چند ایک اَور قیدیوں سمیت ایک رومی افسر کے حوالے کیا گیا جس کا نام یولیُس تھا جو شاہی پلٹن پر مقرر تھا۔

And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

ارسترخس بھی ہمارے ساتھ تھا۔ وہ تھسلُنیکے شہر کا مکدُنی آدمی تھا۔ ہم اَدرمتیُم شہر کے ایک جہاز پر سوار ہوئے جسے صوبہ آسیہ کی چند بندر گاہوں کو جانا تھا۔

And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.

اگلے دن ہم صیدا پہنچے تو یولیُس نے مہربانی کر کے پولس کو شہر میں اُس کے دوستوں کے پاس جانے کی اجازت دی تاکہ وہ اُس کی ضروریات پوری کر سکیں۔

And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.

جب ہم وہاں سے روانہ ہوئے تو مخالف ہَواؤں کی وجہ سے جزیرۂ قبرص اور صوبہ آسیہ کے درمیان سے گزرے۔

And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.

پھر کھلے سمندر پر چلتے چلتے ہم کلِکیہ اور پمفیلیہ کے سمندر سے گزر کر صوبہ لوکیہ کے شہر مورہ پہنچے۔

And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein.

وہاں قیدیوں پر مقرر افسر کو پتا چلا کہ اسکندریہ کا ایک مصری جہاز اٹلی جا رہا ہے۔ اُس پر اُس نے ہمیں سوار کیا۔

And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;

کئی دن ہم آہستہ آہستہ چلے اور بڑی مشکل سے کنِدُس کے قریب پہنچے۔ لیکن مخالف ہَوا کی وجہ سے ہم نے جزیرۂ کریتے کی طرف رُخ کیا اور سلمونے شہر کے قریب سے گزر کر کریتے کی آڑ میں سفر کیا۔

And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.

لیکن وہاں ہم ساحل کے ساتھ ساتھ چلتے ہوئے بڑی مشکل سے ایک جگہ پہنچے جس کا نام ’حسین بندر‘ تھا۔ شہر لسیہ اُس کے قریب واقع تھا۔

Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,

بہت وقت ضائع ہو گیا تھا اور اب بحری سفر خطرناک بھی ہو چکا تھا، کیونکہ کفارہ کا دن (تقریباً نومبر کے شروع میں) گزر چکا تھا۔ اِس لئے پولس نے اُنہیں آگاہ کیا،

And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

”حضرات، مجھے پتا ہے کہ آگے جا کر ہم پر بڑی مصیبت آئے گی۔ ہمیں جہاز، مال و اسباب اور جانوں کا نقصان اُٹھانا پڑے گا۔“

Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

لیکن قیدیوں پر مقرر رومی افسر نے اُس کی بات نظرانداز کر کے جہاز کے ناخدا اور مالک کی بات مانی۔

And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.

چونکہ ’حسین بندر‘ میں جہاز کو سردیوں کے موسم کے لئے رکھنا مشکل تھا اِس لئے اکثر لوگ آگے فینکس تک پہنچ کر سردیوں کا موسم گزارنا چاہتے تھے۔ کیونکہ فینکس جزیرۂ کریتے کی اچھی بندرگاہ تھی جو صرف جنوب مغرب اور شمال مغرب کی طرف کھلی تھی۔

And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.

چنانچہ ایک دن جب جنوب کی سمت سے ہلکی سی ہَوا چلنے لگی تو ملاحوں نے سوچا کہ ہمارا ارادہ پورا ہو گیا ہے۔ وہ لنگر اُٹھا کر کریتے کے ساحل کے ساتھ ساتھ چلنے لگے۔

But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.

لیکن تھوڑی ہی دیر کے بعد موسم بدل گیا اور اُن پر جزیرے کی طرف سے ایک طوفانی ہَوا ٹوٹ پڑی جو بادِ شمال مشرقی کہلاتی ہے۔

And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.

جہاز ہَوا کے قابو میں آ گیا اور ہَوا کی طرف رُخ نہ کر سکا، اِس لئے ہم نے ہار مان کر جہاز کو ہَوا کے ساتھ ساتھ چلنے دیا۔

And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:

جب ہم ایک چھوٹے جزیرہ بنام کوَدہ کی آڑ میں سے گزرنے لگے تو ہم نے بڑی مشکل سے بچاؤ کشتی کو جہاز پر اُٹھا کر محفوظ رکھا۔ (اب تک وہ رسّے سے جہاز کے ساتھ کھینچی جا رہی تھی۔)

Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.

پھر ملاحوں نے جہاز کے ڈھانچے کو زیادہ مضبوط بنانے کی خاطر اُس کے ارد گرد رسّے باندھے۔ خوف یہ تھا کہ جہاز شمالی افریقہ کے قریب پڑے چوربالو میں دھنس جائے۔ (اِن ریتوں کا نام سورتس تھا۔) اِس سے بچنے کے لئے اُنہوں نے لنگر ڈال دیا تاکہ جہاز کچھ آہستہ چلے۔ یوں جہاز ہَوا کے ساتھ چلتے چلتے آگے بڑھا۔

And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;

اگلے دن بھی طوفان جہاز کو اِتنی شدت سے جھنجھوڑ رہا تھا کہ ملاح مال و اسباب کو سمندر میں پھینکنے لگے۔

And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.

تیسرے دن اُنہوں نے اپنے ہی ہاتھوں سے جہاز چلانے کا کچھ سامان سمندر میں پھینک دیا۔

And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

طوفان کی شدت بہت دنوں کے بعد بھی ختم نہ ہوئی۔ نہ سورج اور نہ ستارے نظر آئے یہاں تک کہ آخرکار ہمارے بچنے کی ہر اُمید جاتی رہی۔

But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.

کافی دیر سے دل نہیں چاہتا تھا کہ کھانا کھایا جائے۔ آخرکار پولس نے لوگوں کے بیچ میں کھڑے ہو کر کہا، ”حضرات، بہتر ہوتا کہ آپ میری بات مان کر کریتے سے روانہ نہ ہوتے۔ پھر آپ اِس مصیبت اور خسارے سے بچ جاتے۔

And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.

لیکن اب مَیں آپ کو نصیحت کرتا ہوں کہ حوصلہ رکھیں۔ آپ میں سے ایک بھی نہیں مرے گا۔ صرف جہاز تباہ ہو جائے گا۔

For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,

کیونکہ پچھلی رات ایک فرشتہ میرے پاس آ کھڑا ہوا، اُسی خدا کا فرشتہ جس کا مَیں بندہ ہوں اور جس کی عبادت مَیں کرتا ہوں۔

Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cæsar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

اُس نے کہا، ’پولس، مت ڈر۔ لازم ہے کہ تجھے شہنشاہ کے سامنے پیش کیا جائے۔ اور اللہ اپنی مہربانی سے تیرے واسطے تمام ہم سفروں کی جانیں بھی بچائے رکھے گا۔‘

Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

اِس لئے حوصلہ رکھیں، کیونکہ میرا اللہ پر ایمان ہے کہ ایسا ہی ہو گا جس طرح اُس نے فرمایا ہے۔

Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.

لیکن جہاز کو کسی جزیرے کے ساحل پر چڑھ جانا ہے۔“

But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;

طوفان کی چودھویں رات جہاز بحیرۂ ادریہ پر بہے چلا جا رہا تھا کہ تقریباً آدھی رات کو ملاحوں نے محسوس کیا کہ ساحل نزدیک آ رہا ہے۔

And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.

پانی کی گہرائی کی پیمائش کر کے اُنہیں معلوم ہوا کہ وہ 120 فٹ تھی۔ تھوڑی دیر کے بعد اُس کی گہرائی 90 فٹ ہو چکی تھی۔

Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.

وہ ڈر گئے، کیونکہ اُنہوں نے اندازہ لگایا کہ خطرہ ہے کہ ہم ساحل پر پڑی چٹانوں سے ٹکرا جائیں۔ اِس لئے اُنہوں نے جہاز کے پچھلے حصے سے چار لنگر ڈال کر دعا کی کہ دن جلدی سے چڑھ جائے۔

And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,

اُس وقت ملاحوں نے جہاز سے فرار ہونے کی کوشش کی۔ اُنہوں نے یہ بہانہ بنا کر کہ ہم جہاز کے سامنے سے بھی لنگر ڈالنا چاہتے ہیں بچاؤ کشتی پانی میں اُترنے دی۔

Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

اِس پر پولس نے قیدیوں پر مقرر افسر اور فوجیوں سے کہا، ”اگر یہ آدمی جہاز پر نہ رہیں تو آپ سب مر جائیں گے۔“

Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.

چنانچہ اُنہوں نے بچاؤ کشتی کے رسّے کو کاٹ کر اُسے کھلا چھوڑ دیا۔

And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.

پَو پھٹنے والی تھی کہ پولس نے سب کو سمجھایا کہ وہ کچھ کھا لیں۔ اُس نے کہا، ”آپ نے چودہ دن سے اضطراب کی حالت میں رہ کر کچھ نہیں کھایا۔

Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.

اب مہربانی کر کے کچھ کھا لیں۔ یہ آپ کے بچاؤ کے لئے ضروری ہے، کیونکہ آپ نہ صرف بچ جائیں گے بلکہ آپ کا ایک بال بھی بیکا نہیں ہو گا۔“

And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.

یہ کہہ کر اُس نے کچھ روٹی لی اور اُن سب کے سامنے اللہ سے شکرگزاری کی دعا کی۔ پھر اُسے توڑ کر کھانے لگا۔

Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

اِس سے دوسروں کی حوصلہ افزائی ہوئی اور اُنہوں نے بھی کچھ کھانا کھایا۔

And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.

جہاز پر ہم 276 افراد تھے۔

And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.

جب سب سیر ہو گئے تو گندم کو بھی سمندر میں پھینکا گیا تاکہ جہاز اَور ہلکا ہو جائے۔

And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.

جب دن چڑھ گیا تو ملاحوں نے ساحلی علاقے کو نہ پہچانا۔ لیکن ایک خلیج نظر آئی جس کا ساحل اچھا تھا۔ اُنہیں خیال آیا کہ شاید ہم جہاز کو وہاں خشکی پر چڑھا سکیں۔

And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.

چنانچہ اُنہوں نے لنگروں کے رسّے کاٹ کر اُنہیں سمندر میں چھوڑ دیا۔ پھر اُنہوں نے وہ رسّے کھول دیئے جن سے پتوار بندھے ہوتے تھے اور سامنے والے بادبان کو چڑھا کر ہَوا کے زور سے ساحل کی طرف رُخ کیا۔

And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

لیکن چلتے چلتے جہاز ایک چوربالو سے ٹکرا کر اُس پر چڑھ گیا۔ جہاز کا ماتھا دھنس گیا یہاں تک کہ وہ ہل بھی نہ سکا جبکہ اُس کا پچھلا حصہ موجوں کی ٹکروں سے ٹکڑے ٹکڑے ہونے لگا۔

And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.

فوجی قیدیوں کو قتل کرنا چاہتے تھے تاکہ وہ جہاز سے تیر کر فرار نہ ہو سکیں۔

But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:

لیکن اُن پر مقرر افسر پولس کو بچانا چاہتا تھا، اِس لئے اُس نے اُنہیں ایسا کرنے نہ دیا۔ اُس نے حکم دیا کہ پہلے وہ سب جو تیر سکتے ہیں پانی میں چھلانگ لگا کر کنارے تک پہنچیں۔

And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.

باقیوں کو تختوں یا جہاز کے کسی ٹکڑے کو پکڑ کر پہنچنا تھا۔ یوں سب صحیح سلامت ساحل تک پہنچے۔
