Acts 28

And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

طوفان سے بچنے پر ہمیں معلوم ہوا کہ جزیرے کا نام ملِتے ہے۔

And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

مقامی لوگوں نے ہمیں غیرمعمولی مہربانی دکھائی۔ اُنہوں نے آگ جلا کر ہمارا استقبال کیا، کیونکہ بارش شروع ہو چکی تھی اور ٹھنڈ تھی۔

And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

پولس نے بھی لکڑی کا ڈھیر جمع کیا۔ لیکن جوں ہی اُس نے اُسے آگ میں پھینکا ایک زہریلا سانپ آگ کی تپش سے بھاگ کر نکل آیا اور پولس کے ہاتھ سے چمٹ کر اُسے ڈس لیا۔

And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

مقامی لوگوں نے سانپ کو پولس کے ہاتھ سے لگے دیکھا تو ایک دوسرے سے کہنے لگے، ”یہ آدمی ضرور قاتل ہو گا۔ گو یہ سمندر سے بچ گیا، لیکن انصاف کی دیوی اِسے جینے نہیں دیتی۔“

And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

لیکن پولس نے سانپ کو جھٹک کر آگ میں پھینک دیا، اور سانپ کا کوئی بُرا اثر اُس پر نہ ہوا۔

Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

لوگ اِس انتظار میں رہے کہ وہ سوج جائے یا اچانک گر پڑے، لیکن کافی دیر کے بعد بھی کچھ نہ ہوا۔ اِس پر اُنہوں نے اپنا خیال بدل کر اُسے دیوتا قرار دیا۔

In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

قریب ہی جزیرے کے سب سے بڑے آدمی کی زمینیں تھیں۔ اُس کا نام پُبلیُس تھا۔ اُس نے اپنے گھر میں ہمارا استقبال کیا اور تین دن تک ہماری خوب مہمان نوازی کی۔

And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

اُس کا باپ بیمار پڑا تھا، وہ بخار اور پیچش کے مرض میں مبتلا تھا۔ پولس اُس کے کمرے میں گیا، اُس کے لئے دعا کی اور اپنے ہاتھ اُس پر رکھ دیئے۔ اِس پر مریض کو شفا ملی۔

So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

جب یہ ہوا تو جزیرے کے باقی تمام مریضوں نے پولس کے پاس آ کر شفا پائی۔

Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

نتیجے میں اُنہوں نے کئی طرح سے ہماری عزت کی۔ اور جب روانہ ہونے کا وقت آ گیا تو اُنہوں نے ہمیں وہ سب کچھ مہیا کیا جو سفر کے لئے درکار تھا۔

And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

جزیرے پر تین ماہ گزر گئے۔ پھر ہم ایک جہاز پر سوار ہوئے جو سردیوں کے موسم کے لئے وہاں ٹھہر گیا تھا۔ یہ جہاز اسکندریہ کا تھا اور اُس کے ماتھے پر جُڑواں دیوتاؤں ’کاسٹر‘ اور ’پولکس‘ کی مورت نصب تھی۔ ہم وہاں سے رُخصت ہو کر

And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.

سرکوسہ شہر پہنچے۔ تین دن کے بعد

And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:

ہم وہاں سے ریگیُم شہر گئے جہاں ہم صرف ایک دن ٹھہرے۔ پھر جنوب سے ہَوا اُٹھی، اِس لئے ہم اگلے دن پُتیولی پہنچے۔

Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

اِس شہر میں ہماری ملاقات کچھ بھائیوں سے ہوئی۔ اُنہوں نے ہمیں اپنے پاس ایک ہفتہ رہنے کی دعوت دی۔ یوں ہم روم پہنچ گئے۔

And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

روم کے بھائیوں نے ہمارے بارے میں سن رکھا تھا، اور کچھ ہمارا استقبال کرنے کے لئے قصبہ بنام اپیُس کے چوک تک آئے جبکہ کچھ صرف ’تین سرائے‘ تک آ سکے۔ اُنہیں دیکھ کر پولس نے اللہ کا شکر کیا اور نیا حوصلہ پایا۔

And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

ہمارے روم میں پہنچنے پر پولس کو اپنے کرائے کے مکان میں رہنے کی اجازت ملی، گو ایک فوجی اُس کی پہرہ داری کرنے کے لئے اُس کے ساتھ رہا۔

And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

تین دن گزر گئے تو پولس نے یہودی راہنماؤں کو بُلایا۔ جب وہ جمع ہوئے تو اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ”بھائیو، مجھے یروشلم میں گرفتار کر کے رومیوں کے حوالے کر دیا گیا حالانکہ مَیں نے اپنی قوم یا اپنے باپ دادا کے رسم و رواج کے خلاف کچھ نہیں کیا تھا۔

Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.

رومی میرا جائزہ لے کر مجھے رِہا کرنا چاہتے تھے، کیونکہ اُنہیں مجھے سزائے موت دینے کا کوئی سبب نہ ملا تھا۔

But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Cæsar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.

لیکن یہودیوں نے اعتراض کیا اور یوں مجھے شہنشاہ سے اپیل کرنے پر مجبور کر دیا گیا، گو میرا یہ ارادہ نہیں ہے کہ مَیں اپنی قوم پر کوئی الزام لگاؤں۔

For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

مَیں نے اِس لئے آپ کو بُلایا تاکہ آپ سے ملوں اور گفتگو کروں۔ مَیں اُس شخص کی خاطر اِن زنجیروں سے جکڑا ہوا ہوں جس کے آنے کی اُمید اسرائیل رکھتا ہے۔“

And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judæa concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

یہودیوں نے اُسے جواب دیا، ”ہمیں یہودیہ سے آپ کے بارے میں کوئی بھی خط نہیں ملا۔ اور جتنے بھائی وہاں سے آئے ہیں اُن میں سے ایک نے بھی آپ کے بارے میں نہ تو کوئی منفی رپورٹ دی نہ کوئی بُری بات بتائی۔

But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

لیکن ہم آپ سے سننا چاہتے ہیں کہ آپ کے خیالات کیا ہیں، کیونکہ ہم اِتنا جانتے ہیں کہ ہر جگہ لوگ اِس فرقے کے خلاف باتیں کر رہے ہیں۔“

And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

چنانچہ اُنہوں نے ملنے کا ایک دن مقرر کیا۔ جب یہودی دوبارہ اُس جگہ آئے جہاں پولس رہتا تھا تو اُن کی تعداد بہت زیادہ تھی۔ صبح سے لے کر شام تک اُس نے اللہ کی بادشاہی بیان کی اور اُس کی گواہی دی۔ اُس نے اُنہیں موسیٰ کی شریعت اور نبیوں کے حوالہ جات پیش کر کر کے عیسیٰ کے بارے میں قائل کرنے کی کوشش کی۔

And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

کچھ تو قائل ہو گئے، لیکن باقی ایمان نہ لائے۔

And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

اُن میں نااتفاقی پیدا ہوئی تو وہ چلے گئے۔ جب وہ جانے لگے تو پولس نے اُن سے کہا، ”روح القدس نے یسعیاہ نبی کی معرفت آپ کے باپ دادا سے ٹھیک کہا کہ

Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

جا، اِس قوم کو بتا، ’تم اپنے کانوں سے سنو گے مگر کچھ نہیں سمجھو گے، تم اپنی آنکھوں سے دیکھو گے مگر کچھ نہیں جانو گے۔

For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

کیونکہ اِس قوم کا دل بےحس ہو گیا ہے۔ وہ مشکل سے اپنے کانوں سے سنتے ہیں، اُنہوں نے اپنی آنکھوں کو بند کر رکھا ہے، ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ اپنی آنکھوں سے دیکھیں، اپنے کانوں سے سنیں، اپنے دل سے سمجھیں، میری طرف رجوع کریں اور مَیں اُنہیں شفا دوں‘۔“

Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

پولس نے اپنی بات اِن الفاظ سے ختم کی، ”اب جان لیں کہ اللہ کی طرف سے یہ نجات غیریہودیوں کو بھی پیش کی گئی ہے اور وہ سنیں گے بھی!“

And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

[جب اُس نے یہ کہا تو یہودی آپس میں بحث مباحثہ کرتے ہوئے چلے گئے۔]

And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

پولس پورے دو سال اپنے کرائے کے گھر میں رہا۔ جو بھی اُس کے پاس آیا اُس کا اُس نے استقبال کر کے

Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

دلیری سے اللہ کی بادشاہی کی منادی کی اور خداوند عیسیٰ مسیح کی تعلیم دی۔ اور کسی نے مداخلت نہ کی۔
