Acts 16

Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:

E venne anche a Derba e a Listra; ed ecco, quivi era un certo discepolo, di nome Timoteo, figliuolo di una donna giudea credente, ma di padre greco.

Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

Di lui rendevano buona testimonianza i fratelli che erano in Listra ed in Iconio.

Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.

Paolo volle ch’egli partisse con lui; e presolo, lo circoncise a cagion de’ Giudei che erano in quei luoghi; perché tutti sapevano che il padre di lui era greco.

And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.

E passando essi per le città, trasmisero loro, perché le osservassero, le decisioni prese dagli apostoli e dagli anziani che erano a Gerusalemme.

And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

Le chiese dunque erano confermate nella fede, e crescevano in numero di giorno in giorno.

Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,

Poi traversarono la Frigia e il paese della Galazia, avendo lo Spirito Santo vietato loro d’annunziar la Parola in Asia;

After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.

e giunti sui confini della Misia, tentavano d’andare in Bitinia; ma lo Spirito di Gesù non lo permise loro;

And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.

e passata la Misia, discesero in Troas.

And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

E Paolo ebbe di notte una visione: Un uomo macedone gli stava dinanzi, e lo pregava dicendo: Passa in Macedonia e soccorrici.

And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

E com’egli ebbe avuta quella visione, cercammo subito di partire per la Macedonia, tenendo per certo che Dio ci avea chiamati là, ad annunziar loro l’Evangelo.

Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;

Perciò, salpando da Troas, tirammo diritto, verso Samotracia, e il giorno seguente verso Neapoli;

And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.

e di là ci recammo a Filippi, che è città primaria di quella parte della Macedonia, ed è colonia romana; e dimorammo in quella città alcuni giorni.

And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

E nel giorno di sabato andammo fuori della porta, presso al fiume, dove supponevamo fosse un luogo d’orazione; e postici a sedere, parlavamo alle donne ch’eran quivi radunate.

And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

E una certa donna, di nome Lidia, negoziante di porpora, della città di Tiatiri, che temeva Dio, ci stava ad ascoltare; e il Signore le aprì il cuore, per renderla attenta alle cose dette da Paolo.

And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

E dopo che fu battezzata con quei di casa, ci pregò dicendo: Se mi avete giudicata fedele al Signore, entrate in casa mia, e dimoratevi. E ci fece forza.

And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

E avvenne, come andavamo al luogo d’orazione, che incontrammo una certa serva, che avea uno spirito indovino e con l’indovinare procacciava molto guadagno ai suoi padroni.

The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

Costei, messasi a seguir Paolo e noi, gridava: Questi uomini son servitori dell’Iddio altissimo, e vi annunziano la via della salvezza.

And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

Così fece per molti giorni; ma essendone Paolo annoiato, si voltò e disse allo spirito: Io ti comando, nel nome di Gesù Cristo, che tu esca da costei. Ed esso uscì in quell’istante.

And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,

Ma i padroni di lei, vedendo che la speranza del loro guadagno era svanita, presero Paolo e Sila, e li trassero sulla pubblica piazza davanti ai magistrati,

And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

e presentatili ai pretori, dissero: Questi uomini, che son Giudei, perturbano la nostra città,

And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.

e predicano dei riti che non è lecito a noi che siam Romani né di ricevere, né di osservare.

And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.

E la folla si levò tutta insieme contro a loro; e i pretori, strappate loro di dosso le vesti, comandarono che fossero battuti con le verghe.

And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

E dopo aver loro date molte battiture, li cacciarono in prigione, comandando al carceriere di custodirli sicuramente.

Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

Il quale, ricevuto un tal ordine, li cacciò nella prigione più interna, e serrò loro i piedi nei ceppi.

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

Or sulla mezzanotte Paolo e Sila, pregando, cantavano inni a Dio; e i carcerati li ascoltavano.

And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

E ad un tratto, si fece un gran terremoto, talché la prigione fu scossa dalle fondamenta; e in quell’istante tutte le porte si apersero, e i legami di tutti si sciolsero.

And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

Il carceriere, destatosi, e vedute le porte della prigione aperte, tratta la spada, stava per uccidersi, pensando che i carcerati fossero fuggiti.

But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

Ma Paolo gridò ad alta voce: Non ti far male alcuno, perché siam tutti qui.

Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

E quegli, chiesto un lume, saltò dentro, e tutto tremante si gettò ai piedi di Paolo e di Sila;

And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

e menatili fuori, disse: Signori, che debbo io fare per esser salvato?

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Ed essi risposero: Credi nel Signor Gesù, e sarai salvato tu e la casa tua.

And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

Poi annunziarono la parola del Signore a lui e a tutti coloro che erano in casa sua.

And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

Ed egli, presili in quell’istessa ora della notte, lavò loro le piaghe; e subito fu battezzato lui con tutti i suoi.

And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

E menatili su in casa sua, apparecchiò loro la tavola, e giubilava con tutta la sua casa, perché avea creduto in Dio.

And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.

Or come fu giorno, i pretori mandarono i littori a dire: Lascia andar quegli uomini.

And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.

E il carceriere riferì a Paolo queste parole, dicendo: I pretori hanno mandato a mettervi in libertà; or dunque uscite, e andatevene in pace.

But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.

Ma Paolo disse loro: Dopo averci pubblicamente battuti senza essere stati condannati, noi che siam cittadini romani, ci hanno cacciato in prigione; e ora ci mandan via celatamente? No davvero! Anzi, vengano essi stessi a menarci fuori.

And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.

E i littori riferirono queste parole ai pretori; e questi ebbero paura quando intesero che eran Romani;

And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.

e vennero, e li pregarono di scusarli; e menatili fuori, chiesero loro d’andarsene dalla città.

And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

Allora essi, usciti di prigione, entrarono in casa di Lidia; e veduti i fratelli, li confortarono, e si partirono.
