Ephesians 2

در گذشته، شما غیر یهودیان به علّت خطاها و گناهان خود مُرده بودید.

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

و در راههای كج این جهان قدم می‌گذاردید و از حكمران قدرتهای هوا، یعنی همان روحی كه اكنون در اشخاص نافرمان و سركش عمل می‌کند، پیروی می‌کردید.

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

در آن زمان، ما همچون شما دستخوش شهوات جسمانی و اسیر تمایلات و افكار نفسانی خود بودیم. درست مانند سایر آدمیان، ما نیز طبیعتاً سزاوار خشم و غضب خدا بودیم.

Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

امّا خدا آن‌قدر در رحمت و بخشایش ثروتمند و در محبّتش نسبت به ما كریم است كه

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

اگرچه به علّت خطاهای خود مرده بودیم، ما را با مسیح زنده گردانید. (از راه فیض خداست كه شما نجات یافته‌اید.)

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

و به‌خاطر اتّحادی كه با مسیح داریم، ما را سرافراز فرمود و در قلمرو آسمانی با مسیح نشانید.

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

تا ثروت عظیم و بی‌قیاس فیض خود را، با مهربانی نسبت به ما، در عیسی مسیح در زمانهای آینده نمایان سازد.

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

زیرا به‌سبب فیض خداست كه شما از راه ایمان نجات یافته‌اید و این كار شما نیست بلكه بخشش خداست.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

این نجات، نتیجهٔ کارهای شما نیست، پس هیچ دلیلی وجود ندارد كه كسی به خود ببالد.

Not of works, lest any man should boast.

زیرا ما ساختهٔ دست او هستیم و خدا ما را در مسیح عیسی از نو آفریده است تا آن كارهای نیكویی را كه او قبلاً برای ما مقدّر فرمود كه انجام دهیم، بجا آوریم.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

بنابراین به‌خاطر داشته باشید كه شما در گذشته جسماً جزء كافران بودید و به وسیلهٔ اهل ختنه (یعنی یک عمل جسمانی كه به دست انسان صورت می‌گیرد.) «نامختون» نامیده می‌شدید.

Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

در آن زمان، از مسیح دور بودید و از مزایای قوم اسرائیل محروم و از پیمانهایی كه بر وعده‌های خدا متّکی بود، بی‌بهره بودید. شما در این جهان، بدون امید و بدون خدا به سر می‌بردید.

That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

امّا اكنون شما كه دور بودید به وسیلهٔ اتّحاد با مسیح عیسی و ریختن خون او نزدیک شده‌اید.

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

زیرا مسیح صلح و صفا را بین یهود و غیر یهود به وجود آورده و این دو را با هم متّحد ساخته است. او با بدن جسمانی خود، دیواری كه آنان را از هم جدا می‌کرد و دشمنان یكدیگر می‌ساخت، درهم شكست.

For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

زیرا شریعت را با مقرّرات و احكامش منسوخ كرد تا از این دو دسته، در خود یک انسانیّت تازه‌ای به وجود آورد و صلح و صفا را میسّر سازد.

Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

مسیح با مرگ خود بر روی صلیب، این دو را در یک بدن واحد، دوستان خدا گردانید تا دشمنی دو جانبه یهود و غیر یهود را نیز از میان بردارد.

And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

به این سبب بود كه مسیح آمد و مژدهٔ صلح را به شما كه دور بودید و به آنانی كه نزدیک بودند، اعلام كرد.

And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

اكنون هر دو به وسیلهٔ مسیح اجازه داریم كه در یک روح یعنی روح‌القدس به حضور پدر بیاییم.

For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

پس شما غیر یهودیان، دیگر غریب و بیگانه نیستید بلكه با مقدّسین خدا هموطن و اعضاء خانوادهٔ خدا هستید.

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

شما بر شالوده‌ای كه به دست رسولان و انبیا نهاده شده است، بنا شده‌اید و عیسی مسیح سنگ اصلی آن است.

And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

در اتّحاد با اوست كه تمام عمارت به هم متّصل می‌گردد و رفته‌رفته در خداوند به صورت یک معبد مقدّس در می‌آید.

In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

شما نیز در اتّحاد با او و همراه دیگران به صورت مكانی بنا خواهید شد كه خدا به وسیلهٔ روح خود در آن زندگی می‌کند.

In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
