Matthew 9

And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.

کشتی میں بیٹھ کر عیسیٰ نے جھیل کو پار کیا اور اپنے شہر پہنچ گیا۔

And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

وہاں ایک مفلوج آدمی کو چارپائی پر ڈال کر اُس کے پاس لایا گیا۔ اُن کا ایمان دیکھ کر عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”بیٹا، حوصلہ رکھ۔ تیرے گناہ معاف کر دیئے گئے ہیں۔“

And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

یہ سن کر شریعت کے کچھ علما دل میں کہنے لگے، ”یہ کفر بک رہا ہے!“

And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

عیسیٰ نے جان لیا کہ یہ کیا سوچ رہے ہیں، اِس لئے اُس نے اُن سے پوچھا،

For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?

”تم دل میں بُری باتیں کیوں سوچ رہے ہو؟ کیا مفلوج سے یہ کہنا زیادہ آسان ہے کہ ’تیرے گناہ معاف کر دیئے گئے ہیں‘ یا یہ کہ ’اُٹھ اور چل پھر‘؟

But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

لیکن مَیں تم کو دکھاتا ہوں کہ ابنِ آدم کو واقعی دنیا میں گناہ معاف کرنے کا اختیار ہے۔“ یہ کہہ کر وہ مفلوج سے مخاطب ہوا، ”اُٹھ، اپنی چارپائی اُٹھا کر گھر چلا جا۔“

And he arose, and departed to his house.

وہ آدمی کھڑا ہوا اور اپنے گھر چلا گیا۔

But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

یہ دیکھ کر ہجوم پر اللہ کا خوف طاری ہو گیا اور وہ اللہ کی تمجید کرنے لگے کہ اُس نے انسان کو اِس قسم کا اختیار دیا ہے۔

And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

آگے جا کر عیسیٰ نے ایک آدمی کو دیکھا جو ٹیکس لینے والوں کی چوکی پر بیٹھا تھا۔ اُس کا نام متی تھا۔ عیسیٰ نے اُس سے کہا، ”میرے پیچھے ہو لے۔“ اور متی اُٹھ کر اُس کے پیچھے ہو لیا۔

And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.

بعد میں عیسیٰ متی کے گھر میں کھانا کھا رہا تھا۔ بہت سے ٹیکس لینے والے اور گناہ گار بھی آ کر عیسیٰ اور اُس کے شاگردوں کے ساتھ کھانے میں شریک ہوئے۔

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

یہ دیکھ کر فریسیوں نے اُس کے شاگردوں سے پوچھا، ”آپ کا اُستاد ٹیکس لینے والوں اور گناہ گاروں کے ساتھ کیوں کھاتا ہے؟“

But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

یہ سن کر عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”صحت مندوں کو ڈاکٹر کی ضرورت نہیں ہوتی بلکہ مریضوں کو۔

But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

پہلے جاؤ اور کلامِ مُقدّس کی اِس بات کا مطلب جان لو کہ ’مَیں قربانی نہیں بلکہ رحم پسند کرتا ہوں۔‘ کیونکہ مَیں راست بازوں کو نہیں بلکہ گناہ گاروں کو بُلانے آیا ہوں۔“

Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

پھر یحییٰ کے شاگرد اُس کے پاس آئے اور پوچھا، ”آپ کے شاگرد روزہ کیوں نہیں رکھتے جبکہ ہم اور فریسی روزہ رکھتے ہیں؟“

And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”شادی کے مہمان کس طرح ماتم کر سکتے ہیں جب تک دُولھا اُن کے درمیان ہے؟ لیکن ایک دن آئے گا جب دُولھا اُن سے لے لیا جائے گا۔ اُس وقت وہ ضرور روزہ رکھیں گے۔

No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

کوئی بھی نئے کپڑے کا ٹکڑا کسی پرانے لباس میں نہیں لگاتا۔ اگر وہ ایسا کرے تو نیا ٹکڑا بعد میں سکڑ کر پرانے لباس سے الگ ہو جائے گا۔ یوں پرانے لباس کی پھٹی ہوئی جگہ پہلے کی نسبت زیادہ خراب ہو جائے گی۔

Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

اِسی طرح انگور کا تازہ رس پرانی اور بےلچک مشکوں میں نہیں ڈالا جاتا۔ اگر ایسا کیا جائے تو پرانی مشکیں پیدا ہونے والی گیس کے باعث پھٹ جائیں گی۔ نتیجے میں مَے اور مشکیں دونوں ضائع ہو جائیں گی۔ اِس لئے انگور کا تازہ رس نئی مشکوں میں ڈالا جاتا ہے جو لچک دار ہوتی ہیں۔ یوں رس اور مشکیں دونوں ہی محفوظ رہتے ہیں۔“

While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

عیسیٰ ابھی یہ بیان کر رہا تھا کہ ایک یہودی راہنما نے گر کر اُسے سجدہ کیا اور کہا، ”میری بیٹی ابھی ابھی مری ہے۔ لیکن آ کر اپنا ہاتھ اُس پر رکھیں تو وہ دوبارہ زندہ ہو جائے گی۔“

And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.

عیسیٰ اُٹھ کر اپنے شاگردوں سمیت اُس کے ساتھ ہو لیا۔

And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

چلتے چلتے ایک عورت نے پیچھے سے آ کر عیسیٰ کے لباس کا کنارہ چھوا۔ یہ عورت بارہ سال سے خون بہنے کی مریضہ تھی

For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

اور وہ سوچ رہی تھی، ”اگر مَیں صرف اُس کے لباس کو ہی چھو لوں تو شفا پا لوں گی۔“

But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

عیسیٰ نے مُڑ کر اُسے دیکھا اور کہا، ”بیٹی، حوصلہ رکھ! تیرے ایمان نے تجھے بچا لیا ہے۔“ اور عورت کو اُسی وقت شفا مل گئی۔

And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,

پھر عیسیٰ راہنما کے گھر میں داخل ہوا۔ بانسری بجانے والے اور بہت سے لوگ پہنچ چکے تھے اور بہت شور شرابہ تھا۔ یہ دیکھ کر

He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”نکل جاؤ! لڑکی مر نہیں گئی بلکہ سو رہی ہے۔“ لوگ ہنس کر اُس کا مذاق اُڑانے لگے۔

But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.

لیکن جب سب کو نکال دیا گیا تو وہ اندر گیا۔ اُس نے لڑکی کا ہاتھ پکڑا تو وہ اُٹھ کھڑی ہوئی۔

And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.

اِس معجزے کی خبر اُس پورے علاقے میں پھیل گئی۔

And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.

جب عیسیٰ وہاں سے روانہ ہوا تو دو اندھے اُس کے پیچھے چل کر چلّانے لگے، ”ابنِ داؤد، ہم پر رحم کریں۔“

And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.

جب عیسیٰ کسی کے گھر میں داخل ہوا تو وہ اُس کے پاس آئے۔ عیسیٰ نے اُن سے پوچھا، ”کیا تمہارا ایمان ہے کہ مَیں یہ کر سکتا ہوں؟“ اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”جی، خداوند۔“

Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

پھر اُس نے اُن کی آنکھیں چھو کر کہا، ”تمہارے ساتھ تمہارے ایمان کے مطابق ہو جائے۔“

And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

اُن کی آنکھیں بحال ہو گئیں اور عیسیٰ نے سختی سے اُنہیں کہا، ”خبردار، کسی کو بھی اِس کا پتا نہ چلے!“

But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.

لیکن وہ نکل کر پورے علاقے میں اُس کی خبر پھیلانے لگے۔

As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.

جب وہ نکل رہے تھے تو ایک گونگا آدمی عیسیٰ کے پاس لایا گیا جو کسی بدروح کے قبضے میں تھا۔

And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

جب بدروح کو نکالا گیا تو گونگا بولنے لگا۔ ہجوم حیران رہ گیا۔ اُنہوں نے کہا، ”ایسا کام اسرائیل میں کبھی نہیں دیکھا گیا۔“

But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.

لیکن فریسیوں نے کہا، ”وہ بدروحوں کے سردار ہی کی مدد سے بدروحوں کو نکالتا ہے۔“

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

اور عیسیٰ سفر کرتے کرتے تمام شہروں اور گاؤں میں سے گزرا۔ جہاں بھی وہ پہنچا وہاں اُس نے اُن کے عبادت خانوں میں تعلیم دی، بادشاہی کی خوش خبری سنائی اور ہر قسم کے مرض اور علالت سے شفا دی۔

But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

ہجوم کو دیکھ کر اُسے اُن پر بڑا ترس آیا، کیونکہ وہ پِسے ہوئے اور بےبس تھے، ایسی بھیڑوں کی طرح جن کا چرواہا نہ ہو۔

Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

اُس نے اپنے شاگردوں سے کہا، ”فصل بہت ہے، لیکن مزدور کم۔

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

اِس لئے فصل کے مالک سے گزارش کرو کہ وہ اپنی فصل کاٹنے کے لئے مزید مزدور بھیج دے۔“
