Proverbs 27

Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

Não presumas do dia de amanhã, porque não sabes o que ele trará.

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

Que um outro te louve, e não a tua própria boca; o estranho, e não os teus lábios.

A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.

A pedra é pesada, e a areia é espessa; porém a ira do insensato é mais pesada que ambas.

Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

O furor é cruel e a ira impetuosa, mas quem poderá enfrentar a inveja?

Open rebuke is better than secret love.

Melhor é a repreensão franca do que o amor encoberto.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Leais são as feridas feitas pelo amigo, mas os beijos do inimigo são enganosos.

The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

A alma farta pisa o favo de mel, mas para a alma faminta todo amargo é doce.

As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

Qual a ave que vagueia longe do seu ninho, tal é o homem que anda vagueando longe da sua morada.

Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

O óleo e o perfume alegram o coração; assim o faz a doçura do amigo pelo conselho cordial.

Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

Não deixes o teu amigo, nem o amigo de teu pai; nem entres na casa de teu irmão no dia da tua adversidade; melhor é o vizinho perto do que o irmão longe.

My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

Sê sábio, filho meu, e alegra o meu coração, para que tenha alguma coisa que responder àquele que me desprezar.

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

O avisado vê o mal e esconde-se; mas os simples passam e sofrem a pena.

Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

Quando alguém fica por fiador do estranho, toma-lhe até a sua roupa, e por penhor àquele que se obriga pela mulher estranha.

He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.

O que, pela manhã de madrugada, abençoa o seu amigo em alta voz, lho será imputado por maldição.

A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

O gotejar contínuo em dia de grande chuva, e a mulher contenciosa, uma e outra são semelhantes;

Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.

Tentar moderá-la será como deter o vento, ou como conter o óleo dentro da sua mão direita.

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

Como o ferro com ferro se aguça, assim o homem afia o rosto do seu amigo.

Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.

O que cuida da figueira comerá do seu fruto; e o que atenta para o seu senhor será honrado.

As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

Como na água o rosto corresponde ao rosto, assim o coração do homem ao homem.

Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

Como o inferno e a perdição nunca se fartam, assim os olhos do homem nunca se satisfazem.

As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.

Como o crisol é para a prata, e o forno para o ouro, assim o homem é provado pelos louvores.

Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.

Ainda que repreendas o tolo como quem bate o trigo com a mão de gral entre grãos pilados, não se apartará dele a sua estultícia.

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

Procura conhecer o estado das tuas ovelhas; põe o teu coração sobre os teus rebanhos,

For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?

Porque o tesouro não dura para sempre; e durará a coroa de geração em geração?

The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.

Quando brotar a erva, e aparecerem os renovos, e se juntarem as ervas dos montes,

The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.

Então os cordeiros serão para te vestires, e os bodes para o preço do campo;

And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.

E a abastança do leite das cabras para o teu sustento, para sustento da tua casa e para sustento das tuas servas.
