Matthew 11

And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

Tendo acabado Jesus de dar instruções aos seus doze discípulos, partiu dali a ensinar e a pregar nas cidades deles.

Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

Ora, quando João ouviu, no cárcere, falar das obras do Cristo, enviou dois dos seus discípulos,

And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

a dizer-lhe: És tu aquele que havia de vir, ou esperamos outro?

Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

E Jesus, respondendo, disse-lhes: Ide e anunciai a João o que estais ouvindo e vendo:

The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

os cegos veem, e os coxos andam; os leprosos são purificados, e os surdos ouvem; os mortos são ressuscitados, e aos pobres é anunciado o evangelho.

And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

E bem-aventurado é aquele que não se escandalizar em mim.

And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

Ao partirem eles, começou Jesus a dizer às multidões a respeito de João: que saístes a ver no deserto? Um caniço agitado pelo vento?

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

Mas que saístes a ver? Um homem vestido de roupas finas? Eis que aqueles que vestem roupas finas estão nas casas dos reis.

But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

Mas que saístes a ver? Um profeta? Sim, vos digo eu, e muito mais que um profeta.

For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

Pois este é aquele de quem está escrito: Eis que envio o meu mensageiro perante tua face, que preparará diante de ti o teu caminho.

Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Em verdade vos digo que, entre os nascidos de mulher, não surgiu outro maior do que João Batista; mas aquele que é o menor no reino dos céus é maior do que ele.

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

E desde os dias de João Batista, até agora, o reino dos céus sofre violência, e os violentos o tomam pela força.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

Pois todos os profetas e a lei profetizaram até João.

And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

E, se quereis aceitar, é este o Elias que havia de vir.

He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça.

But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,

Mas, a quem compararei esta geração? É semelhante aos meninos que, sentados nas praças, clamam aos seus companheiros,

And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

dizendo: Nós vos tocamos flauta, e não dançastes; entoamos lamentações, e não pranteastes.

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

Porquanto veio João, não comendo nem bebendo, e dizem: Ele tem demônio.

The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

Veio o Filho do homem, comendo e bebendo, e dizem: Eis aí um comilão e bebedor de vinho, amigo de publicanos e pecadores. Entretanto a sabedoria é justificada por seus filhos.

Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

Então começou ele a denunciar as cidades onde realizara a maior parte dos seus milagres, por não se haverem arrependido:

Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

Ai de ti, Corazim! Ai de ti, Betsaida! Porque, se em Tiro e em Sidom, fossem feitos os milagres que em vós se fizeram, há muito elas se teriam arrependido com saco e com cinzas.

But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

Contudo, eu vos digo: Haverá menos rigor para Tiro e Sidom, no dia do juízo, do que para vós.

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

E tu, Cafarnaum, que te elevas até ao céu, serás lançada na cova; porque, se em Sodoma se tivessem operado os milagres que em ti se fizeram, teria ela permanecido até hoje.

But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

Contudo, eu vos digo: Haverá menos rigor para a terra de Sodoma, no dia do juízo, do que para ti.

At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

Naquele tempo, respondendo Jesus, disse: Graças te dou, ó Pai, Senhor do céu e da terra, porque ocultaste estas coisas aos sábios e entendidos, e as revelaste aos pequeninos.

Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.

Sim, ó Pai, porque assim foi do teu agrado.

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

Todas as coisas me foram entregues por meu Pai; e ninguém conhece o Filho, senão o Pai; e ninguém conhece o Pai, senão o Filho, e aquele a quem o Filho o quiser revelar.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Vinde a mim, todos os que estais cansados e sobrecarregados, e eu vos aliviarei.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Tomai sobre vós o meu jugo e aprendei de mim, porque sou manso e humilde de coração; e achareis descanso para as vossas almas.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Porque o meu jugo é suave, e o meu fardo é leve.
