Matthew 20

For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.

کیونکہ آسمان کی بادشاہی اُس زمین دار سے مطابقت رکھتی ہے جو ایک دن صبح سویرے نکلا تاکہ اپنے انگور کے باغ کے لئے مزدور ڈھونڈے۔

And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

وہ اُن سے دِہاڑی کے لئے چاندی کا ایک سِکہ دینے پر متفق ہوا اور اُنہیں اپنے انگور کے باغ میں بھیج دیا۔

And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,

نو بجے وہ دوبارہ نکلا تو دیکھا کہ کچھ لوگ ابھی تک منڈی میں فارغ بیٹھے ہیں۔

And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.

اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ’تم بھی جا کر میرے انگور کے باغ میں کام کرو۔ مَیں تمہیں مناسب اُجرت دوں گا۔‘

Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.

چنانچہ وہ کام کرنے کے لئے چلے گئے۔ بارہ بجے اور تین بجے دوپہر کے وقت بھی وہ نکلا اور اِس طرح کے فارغ مزدوروں کو کام پر لگایا۔

And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?

پھر شام کے پانچ بج گئے۔ وہ نکلا تو دیکھا کہ ابھی تک کچھ لوگ فارغ بیٹھے ہیں۔ اُس نے اُن سے پوچھا، ’تم کیوں پورا دن فارغ بیٹھے رہے ہو؟‘

They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.

اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ’اِس لئے کہ کسی نے ہمیں کام پر نہیں لگایا۔‘ اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ’تم بھی جا کر میرے انگور کے باغ میں کام کرو۔‘

So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.

دن ڈھل گیا تو زمین دار نے اپنے افسر کو بتایا، ’مزدوروں کو بُلا کر اُنہیں مزدوری دے دے، آخر میں آنے والوں سے شروع کر کے پہلے آنے والوں تک۔‘

And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.

جو مزدور پانچ بجے آئے تھے اُنہیں چاندی کا ایک ایک سِکہ مل گیا۔

But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.

اِس لئے جب وہ آئے جو پہلے کام پر لگائے گئے تھے تو اُنہوں نے زیادہ ملنے کی توقع کی۔ لیکن اُنہیں بھی چاندی کا ایک ایک سِکہ ملا۔

And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,

اِس پر وہ زمین دار کے خلاف بڑبڑانے لگے،

Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.

’یہ آدمی جنہیں آخر میں لگایا گیا اُنہوں نے صرف ایک گھنٹا کام کیا۔ توبھی آپ نے اُنہیں ہمارے برابر کی مزدوری دی حالانکہ ہمیں دن کا پورا بوجھ اور دھوپ کی شدت برداشت کرنی پڑی۔‘

But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?

لیکن زمین دار نے اُن میں سے ایک سے بات کی، ’یار، مَیں نے غلط کام نہیں کیا۔ کیا تُو چاندی کے ایک سِکے کے لئے مزدوری کرنے پر متفق نہ ہوا تھا؟

Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.

اپنے پیسے لے کر چلا جا۔ مَیں آخر میں کام پر لگنے والوں کو اُتنا ہی دینا چاہتا ہوں جتنا تجھے۔

Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?

کیا میرا حق نہیں کہ مَیں جیسا چاہوں اپنے پیسے خرچ کروں؟ یا کیا تُو اِس لئے حسد کرتا ہے کہ مَیں فیاض دل ہوں؟‘

So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

یوں اوّل آخر میں آئیں گے اور جو آخری ہیں وہ اوّل ہو جائیں گے۔“

And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,

اب جب عیسیٰ یروشلم کی طرف بڑھ رہا تھا تو بارہ شاگردوں کو ایک طرف لے جا کر اُس نے اُن سے کہا،

Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,

”ہم یروشلم کی طرف بڑھ رہے ہیں۔ وہاں ابنِ آدم کو راہنما اماموں اور شریعت کے علما کے حوالے کر دیا جائے گا۔ وہ اُس پر سزائے موت کا فتویٰ دے کر

And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

اُسے غیریہودیوں کے حوالے کر دیں گے تاکہ وہ اُس کا مذاق اُڑائیں، اُس کو کوڑے ماریں اور اُسے مصلوب کریں۔ لیکن تیسرے دن وہ جی اُٹھے گا۔“

Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.

پھر زبدی کے بیٹوں یعقوب اور یوحنا کی ماں اپنے بیٹوں کو ساتھ لے کر عیسیٰ کے پاس آئی اور سجدہ کر کے کہا، ”آپ سے ایک گزارش ہے۔“

And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.

عیسیٰ نے پوچھا، ”تُو کیا چاہتی ہے؟“ اُس نے جواب دیا، ”اپنی بادشاہی میں میرے اِن بیٹوں میں سے ایک کو اپنے دائیں ہاتھ بیٹھنے دیں اور دوسرے کو بائیں ہاتھ۔“

But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”تم کو نہیں معلوم کہ کیا مانگ رہے ہو۔ کیا تم وہ پیالہ پی سکتے ہو جو مَیں پینے کو ہوں؟“ ”جی، ہم پی سکتے ہیں،“ اُنہوں نے جواب دیا۔

And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

پھر عیسیٰ نے اُن سے کہا، ”تم میرا پیالہ تو ضرور پیؤ گے، لیکن یہ فیصلہ کرنا میرا کام نہیں کہ کون میرے دائیں ہاتھ بیٹھے گا اور کون بائیں ہاتھ۔ میرے باپ نے یہ مقام اُن ہی کے لئے تیار کیا ہے جن کو اُس نے خود مقرر کیا ہے۔“

And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.

جب باقی دس شاگردوں نے یہ سنا تو اُنہیں یعقوب اور یوحنا پر غصہ آیا۔

But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

اِس پر عیسیٰ نے اُن سب کو بُلا کر کہا، ”تم جانتے ہو کہ قوموں کے حکمران اپنی رعایا پر رُعب ڈالتے ہیں اور اُن کے بڑے افسر اُن پر اپنے اختیار کا غلط استعمال کرتے ہیں۔

But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

لیکن تمہارے درمیان ایسا نہیں ہے۔ جو تم میں بڑا ہونا چاہے وہ تمہارا خادم بنے

And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

اور جو تم میں اوّل ہونا چاہے وہ تمہارا غلام بنے۔

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

کیونکہ ابنِ آدم بھی اِس لئے نہیں آیا کہ خدمت لے بلکہ اِس لئے کہ خدمت کرے اور اپنی جان فدیہ کے طور پر دے کر بہتوں کو چھڑائے۔“

And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.

جب وہ یریحو شہر سے نکلنے لگے تو ایک بڑا ہجوم اُن کے پیچھے چل رہا تھا۔

And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.

دو اندھے راستے کے کنارے بیٹھے تھے۔ جب اُنہوں نے سنا کہ عیسیٰ گزر رہا ہے تو وہ چلّانے لگے، ”خداوند، ابنِ داؤد، ہم پر رحم کریں۔“

And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.

ہجوم نے اُنہیں ڈانٹ کر کہا، ”خاموش!“ لیکن وہ اَور بھی اونچی آواز سے پکارتے رہے، ”خداوند، ابنِ داؤد، ہم پر رحم کریں۔“

And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?

عیسیٰ رُک گیا۔ اُس نے اُنہیں اپنے پاس بُلایا اور پوچھا، ”تم کیا چاہتے ہو کہ مَیں تمہارے لئے کروں؟“

They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”خداوند، یہ کہ ہم دیکھ سکیں۔“

So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

عیسیٰ کو اُن پر ترس آیا۔ اُس نے اُن کی آنکھوں کو چھوا تو وہ فوراً بحال ہو گئیں۔ پھر وہ اُس کے پیچھے چلنے لگے۔
