Matthew 19

And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;

یہ کہنے کے بعد عیسیٰ گلیل کو چھوڑ کر یہودیہ میں دریائے یردن کے پار چلا گیا۔

And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.

بڑا ہجوم اُس کے پیچھے ہو لیا اور اُس نے اُنہیں وہاں شفا دی۔

The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

کچھ فریسی آئے اور اُسے پھنسانے کی غرض سے سوال کیا، ”کیا جائز ہے کہ مرد اپنی بیوی کو کسی بھی وجہ سے طلاق دے؟“

And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”کیا تم نے کلامِ مُقدّس میں نہیں پڑھا کہ ابتدا میں خالق نے اُنہیں مرد اور عورت بنایا؟

And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

اور اُس نے فرمایا، ’اِس لئے مرد اپنے ماں باپ کو چھوڑ کر اپنی بیوی کے ساتھ پیوست ہو جاتا ہے۔ وہ دونوں ایک ہو جاتے ہیں۔‘

Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

یوں وہ کلامِ مُقدّس کے مطابق دو نہیں رہتے بلکہ ایک ہو جاتے ہیں۔ جسے اللہ نے جوڑا ہے اُسے انسان جدا نہ کرے۔“

They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

اُنہوں نے اعتراض کیا، ”تو پھر موسیٰ نے یہ کیوں فرمایا کہ آدمی طلاق نامہ لکھ کر بیوی کو رُخصت کر دے؟“

He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”موسیٰ نے تمہاری سخت دلی کی وجہ سے تم کو اپنی بیوی کو طلاق دینے کی اجازت دی۔ لیکن ابتدا میں ایسا نہ تھا۔

And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

مَیں تمہیں بتاتا ہوں، جو اپنی بیوی کو جس نے زنا نہ کیا ہو طلاق دے اور کسی اَور سے شادی کرے، وہ زنا کرتا ہے۔“

His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.

شاگردوں نے اُس سے کہا، ”اگر شوہر اور بیوی کا آپس کا تعلق ایسا ہے تو شادی نہ کرنا بہتر ہے۔“

But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”ہر کوئی یہ بات سمجھ نہیں سکتا بلکہ صرف وہ جسے اِس قابل بنا دیا گیا ہو۔

For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

کیونکہ کچھ پیدائش ہی سے شادی کرنے کے قابل نہیں ہوتے، بعض کو دوسروں نے یوں بنایا ہے اور بعض نے آسمان کی بادشاہی کی خاطر شادی کرنے سے انکار کیا ہے۔ لہٰذا جو یہ سمجھ سکے وہ سمجھ لے۔“

Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.

ایک دن چھوٹے بچوں کو عیسیٰ کے پاس لایا گیا تاکہ وہ اُن پر اپنے ہاتھ رکھ کر دعا کرے۔ لیکن شاگردوں نے لانے والوں کو ملامت کی۔

But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

یہ دیکھ کر عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”بچوں کو میرے پاس آنے دو اور اُنہیں نہ روکو، کیونکہ آسمان کی بادشاہی اِن جیسے لوگوں کو حاصل ہے۔“

And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

اُس نے اُن پر اپنے ہاتھ رکھے اور پھر وہاں سے چلا گیا۔

And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

پھر ایک آدمی عیسیٰ کے پاس آیا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”اُستاد، مَیں کون سا نیک کام کروں تاکہ ابدی زندگی مل جائے؟“

And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”تُو مجھے نیکی کے بارے میں کیوں پوچھ رہا ہے؟ صرف ایک ہی نیک ہے۔ لیکن اگر تُو ابدی زندگی میں داخل ہونا چاہتا ہے تو احکام کے مطابق زندگی گزار۔“

He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

آدمی نے پوچھا، ”کون سے احکام؟“ عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”قتل نہ کرنا، زنا نہ کرنا، چوری نہ کرنا، جھوٹی گواہی نہ دینا،

Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

اپنے باپ اور اپنی ماں کی عزت کرنا اور اپنے پڑوسی سے ویسی محبت رکھنا جیسی تُو اپنے آپ سے رکھتا ہے۔“

The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

جوان آدمی نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں نے اِن تمام احکام کی پیروی کی ہے، اب کیا رہ گیا ہے؟“

Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

عیسیٰ نے اُسے بتایا، ”اگر تُو کامل ہونا چاہتا ہے تو جا اور اپنی پوری جائیداد فروخت کر کے پیسے غریبوں میں تقسیم کر دے۔ پھر تیرے لئے آسمان پر خزانہ جمع ہو جائے گا۔ اِس کے بعد آ کر میرے پیچھے ہو لے۔“

But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

یہ سن کر نوجوان مایوس ہو کر چلا گیا، کیونکہ وہ نہایت دولت مند تھا۔

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

اِس پر عیسیٰ نے اپنے شاگردوں سے کہا، ”مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں کہ دولت مند کے لئے آسمان کی بادشاہی میں داخل ہونا مشکل ہے۔

And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

مَیں یہ دوبارہ کہتا ہوں، امیر کے آسمان کی بادشاہی میں داخل ہونے کی نسبت زیادہ آسان یہ ہے کہ اونٹ سوئی کے ناکے میں سے گزر جائے۔“

When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?

یہ سن کر شاگرد نہایت حیرت زدہ ہوئے اور پوچھنے لگے، ”پھر کس کو نجات حاصل ہو سکتی ہے؟“

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

عیسیٰ نے غور سے اُن کی طرف دیکھ کر جواب دیا، ”یہ انسان کے لئے تو ناممکن ہے، لیکن اللہ کے لئے سب کچھ ممکن ہے۔“

Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?

پھر پطرس بول اُٹھا، ”ہم تو اپنا سب کچھ چھوڑ کر آپ کے پیچھے ہو لئے ہیں۔ ہمیں کیا ملے گا؟“

And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

عیسیٰ نے اُن سے کہا، ”مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں، دنیا کی نئی تخلیق پر جب ابنِ آدم اپنے جلالی تخت پر بیٹھے گا تو تم بھی جنہوں نے میری پیروی کی ہے بارہ تختوں پر بیٹھ کر اسرائیل کے بارہ قبیلوں کی عدالت کرو گے۔

And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

اور جس نے بھی میری خاطر اپنے گھروں، بھائیوں، بہنوں، باپ، ماں، بچوں یا کھیتوں کو چھوڑ دیا ہے اُسے سَو گُنا زیادہ مل جائے گا اور میراث میں ابدی زندگی پائے گا۔

But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

لیکن بہت سے لوگ جو اب اوّل ہیں اُس وقت آخر ہوں گے اور جو اب آخر ہیں وہ اوّل ہوں گے۔
