Acts 14

And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

اکنیُم میں پولس اور برنباس یہودی عبادت خانے میں جا کر اِتنے اختیار سے بولے کہ یہودیوں اور غیریہودیوں کی بڑی تعداد ایمان لے آئی۔

But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

لیکن جن یہودیوں نے ایمان لانے سے انکار کیا اُنہوں نے غیریہودیوں کو اُکسا کر بھائیوں کے بارے میں اُن کے خیالات خراب کر دیئے۔

Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

توبھی رسول کافی دیر تک وہاں ٹھہرے۔ اُنہوں نے دلیری سے خداوند کے بارے میں تعلیم دی اور خداوند نے اپنے فضل کے پیغام کی تصدیق کی۔ اُس نے اُن کے ہاتھوں الٰہی نشان اور معجزے رونما ہونے دیئے۔

But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

لیکن شہر میں آباد لوگ دو گروہوں میں بٹ گئے۔ کچھ یہودیوں کے حق میں تھے اور کچھ رسولوں کے حق میں۔

And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

پھر کچھ غیریہودیوں اور یہودیوں میں جوش آ گیا۔ اُنہوں نے اپنے لیڈروں سمیت فیصلہ کیا کہ ہم پولس اور برنباس کی تذلیل کر کے اُنہیں سنگسار کریں گے۔

They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

لیکن جب رسولوں کو پتا چلا تو وہ ہجرت کر کے لکاؤنیہ کے شہروں لسترہ، دربے اور ارد گرد کے علاقے میں

And there they preached the gospel.

اللہ کی خوش خبری سناتے رہے۔

And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:

لسترہ میں پولس اور برنباس کی ملاقات ایک آدمی سے ہوئی جس کے پاؤں میں طاقت نہیں تھی۔ وہ پیدائش ہی سے لنگڑا تھا اور کبھی بھی چل پھر نہ سکا تھا۔ وہ وہاں بیٹھا

The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

اُن کی باتیں سن رہا تھا کہ پولس نے غور سے اُس کی طرف دیکھا۔ اُس نے جان لیا کہ اُس آدمی میں رِہائی پانے کے لائق ایمان ہے۔

Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

اِس لئے وہ اونچی آواز سے بولا، ”اپنے پاؤں پر کھڑے ہو جائیں!“ وہ اُچھل کر کھڑا ہوا اور چلنے پھرنے لگا۔

And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

پولس کا یہ کام دیکھ کر ہجوم اپنی مقامی زبان میں چلّا اُٹھا، ”اِن آدمیوں کی شکل میں دیوتا ہمارے پاس اُتر آئے ہیں۔“

And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

اُنہوں نے برنباس کو یونانی دیوتا زیوس قرار دیا اور پولس کو دیوتا ہرمیس، کیونکہ کلام سنانے کی خدمت زیادہ تر وہ انجام دیتا تھا۔

Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

اِس پر شہر سے باہر واقع زیوس کے مندر کا پجاری شہر کے دروازے پر بَیل اور پھولوں کے ہار لے آیا اور ہجوم کے ساتھ قربانیاں چڑھانے کی تیاریاں کرنے لگا۔

Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

یہ سن کر برنباس اور ساؤل اپنے کپڑوں کو پھاڑ کر ہجوم میں جا گھسے اور چلّانے لگے،

And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

”مردو، یہ آپ کیا کر رہے ہیں؟ ہم بھی آپ جیسے انسان ہیں۔ ہم تو آپ کو اللہ کی یہ خوش خبری سنانے آئے ہیں کہ آپ اِن بےکار چیزوں کو چھوڑ کر زندہ خدا کی طرف رجوع فرمائیں جس نے آسمان و زمین، سمندر اور جو کچھ اُن میں ہے پیدا کیا ہے۔

Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.

ماضی میں اُس نے تمام غیریہودی قوموں کو کھلا چھوڑ دیا تھا کہ وہ اپنی اپنی راہ پر چلیں۔

Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

توبھی اُس نے ایسی چیزیں آپ کے پاس رہنے دی ہیں جو اُس کی گواہی دیتی ہیں۔ اُس کی مہربانی اِس سے ظاہر ہوتی ہے کہ وہ آپ کو بارش بھیج کر ہر موسم کی فصلیں مہیا کرتا ہے اور آپ سیر ہو کر خوشی سے بھر جاتے ہیں۔“

And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

اِن الفاظ کے باوجود پولس اور برنباس نے بڑی مشکل سے ہجوم کو اُنہیں قربانیاں چڑھانے سے روکا۔

And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

پھر کچھ یہودی پسدیہ کے انطاکیہ اور اکنیُم سے وہاں آئے اور ہجوم کو اپنی طرف مائل کیا۔ اُنہوں نے پولس کو سنگسار کیا اور شہر سے باہر گھسیٹ کر لے گئے۔ اُن کا خیال تھا کہ وہ مر گیا ہے،

Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

لیکن جب شاگرد اُس کے گرد جمع ہوئے تو وہ اُٹھ کر شہر کی طرف واپس چل پڑا۔ اگلے دن وہ برنباس سمیت دربے چلا گیا۔

And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

دربے میں اُنہوں نے اللہ کی خوش خبری سنا کر بہت سے شاگرد بنائے۔ پھر وہ مُڑ کر لسترہ، اکنیُم اور پسدیہ کے انطاکیہ واپس آئے۔

Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

ہر جگہ اُنہوں نے شاگردوں کے دل مضبوط کر کے اُن کی حوصلہ افزائی کی کہ وہ ایمان میں ثابت قدم رہیں۔ اُنہوں نے کہا، ”لازم ہے کہ ہم بہت سی مصیبتوں میں سے گزر کر اللہ کی بادشاہی میں داخل ہوں۔“

And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

پولس اور برنباس نے ہر جماعت میں بزرگ بھی مقرر کئے۔ اُنہوں نے روزے رکھ کر دعا کی اور اُنہیں اُس خداوند کے سپرد کیا جس پر وہ ایمان لائے تھے۔

And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

یوں پسدیہ کے علاقے میں سے سفر کرتے کرتے وہ پمفیلیہ پہنچے۔

And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

اُنہوں نے پرگہ میں کلامِ مُقدّس سنایا اور پھر اُتر کر اتلیہ پہنچے۔

And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

وہاں سے وہ جہاز میں بیٹھ کر شام کے شہر انطاکیہ کے لئے روانہ ہوئے، اُس شہر کے لئے جہاں ایمان داروں نے اُنہیں اِس تبلیغی سفر کے لئے اللہ کے فضل کے سپرد کیا تھا۔ یوں اُنہوں نے اپنی اِس خدمت کو پورا کیا۔

And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

انطاکیہ پہنچ کر اُنہوں نے ایمان داروں کو جمع کر کے اُن تمام کاموں کا بیان کیا جو اللہ نے اُن کے وسیلے سے کئے تھے۔ ساتھ ساتھ اُنہوں نے یہ بھی بتایا کہ اللہ نے کس طرح غیریہودیوں کے لئے بھی ایمان کا دروازہ کھول دیا ہے۔

And there they abode long time with the disciples.

اور وہ کافی دیر تک وہاں کے شاگردوں کے پاس ٹھہرے رہے۔
