Job 18

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

Allora Bildad di Suach rispose e disse:

How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.

"Quando porrete fine alle parole? Fate senno, e poi parleremo.

Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?

Perché siamo considerati come bruti e perché siamo agli occhi vostri degli esseri impuri?

He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?

O tu, che nel tuo cruccio laceri te stesso, dovrà la terra, per cagion tua, essere abbandonata e la roccia esser rimossa dal suo luogo?

Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

Sì, la luce dell’empio si spegne, e la fiamma del suo fuoco non brilla.

The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

La luce si oscura nella sua tenda, e la lampada che gli sta sopra si spegne.

The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

I passi che facea nella sua forza si raccorciano, e i suoi propri disegni lo menano a ruina.

For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.

Poiché i suoi piedi lo traggon nel tranello, e va camminando sulle reti.

The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.

Il laccio l’afferra pel tallone, e la trappola lo ghermisce.

The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

Sta nascosta in terra per lui un’insidia, e sul sentiero lo aspetta un agguato.

Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.

Paure lo atterriscono d’ogn’intorno, lo inseguono, gli stanno alle calcagna.

His strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side.

La sua forza vien meno dalla fame, la calamità gli sta pronta al fianco.

It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.

Gli divora a pezzo a pezzo la pelle, gli divora le membra il primogenito della morte.

His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.

Egli è strappato dalla sua tenda che credea sicura, e fatto scendere verso il re degli spaventi.

It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

Nella sua tenda dimora chi non è de’ suoi, e la sua casa è cosparsa di zolfo.

His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.

In basso s’inaridiscono le sue radici, in alto son tagliati i suoi rami.

His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

La sua memoria scompare dal paese, più non s’ode il suo nome per le campagne.

He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

E’ cacciato dalla luce nelle tenebre, ed è bandito dal mondo.

He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

Non lascia tra il suo popolo né figli, né nipoti, nessun superstite dov’egli soggiornava.

They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.

Quei d’occidente son stupiti della sua sorte, e quei d’oriente ne son presi d’orrore.

Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

Certo son tali le dimore dei perversi e tale è il luogo di chi non conosce Iddio".
