Genesis 29

Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.

یعقوب‌ راه‌ خود را ادامه‌ داد و به‌ طرف‌ سرزمین ‌مشرق‌ رفت‌.

And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well's mouth.

در صحرا بر سر چاهی رسید كه ‌سه‌ گلّهٔ گوسفند در اطراف ‌آن‌ خوابیده‌ بودند. از این‌ چاه‌ به ‌گلّه‌ها آب ‌می‌دادند. سنگ ‌بزرگی بر سر چاه‌ بود.

And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in his place.

وقتی همهٔ گوسفندها در آنجا جمع‌ می‌شدند، چوپانان‌ سنگ‌ را از دهانهٔ چاه ‌بر ‌می‌داشتند و به ‌گلّه‌ها آب ‌می‌دادند و بعد از آن ‌دوباره‌ سنگ‌ را بر دهانهٔ چاه‌ می‌گذاشتند.

And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran are we.

یعقوب‌ از چوپانان ‌پرسید: «دوستان ‌من‌، شما اهل‌ كجا هستید؟» آنها جواب ‌دادند: «اهل ‌حران ‌هستیم‌.»

And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.

او پرسید: «آیا شما لابان ‌پسر ناحور را می‌شناسید؟» آنها جواب ‌دادند: «بله‌، می‌شناسیم‌.»

And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.

او پرسید: «حالش‌ خوب ‌است‌؟» آنها جواب‌ دادند: «بله‌ خوب‌ است‌. نگاه‌ كن‌، این‌ دخترش ‌راحیل ‌است‌ كه ‌همراه ‌گلّه‌اش ‌می‌آید.»

And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.

یعقوب‌ گفت‌: «هنوز هوا روشن‌ است ‌و وقت‌ جمع‌كردن ‌گلّه‌ها نیست‌. چرا به آنها آب ‌نمی‌دهید تا دوباره‌ به‌ چرا بازگردند؟»

And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.

آنها جواب‌ دادند: «تا همهٔ گلّه‌ها در اینجا جمع ‌نشوند ما نمی‌توانیم ‌به ‌آنها آب‌ بدهیم‌. وقتی همه‌ جمع‌ شوند، سنگ ‌را از دهانهٔ چاه ‌برمی‌داریم ‌و به آنها آب ‌می‌دهیم‌.»

And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep: for she kept them.

یعقوب‌ با آنها مشغول ‌گفت‌وگو بود كه ‌راحیل‌ با گلّهٔ پدرش ‌لابان ‌به‌ آنجا آمد.

And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

وقتی یعقوب ‌دختر دایی خود، راحیل ‌را دید كه ‌با گلّه‌ آمده‌ است‌، بر سر چاه‌ رفت‌. سنگ‌ را از دهانهٔ چاه‌ كنار زد و گوسفندان ‌را آب‌ داد.

And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

سپس ‌راحیل‌ را بوسید و از شدّت ‌خوشحالی گریه کرد.

And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son: and she ran and told her father.

یعقوب ‌به‌ راحیل ‌گفت‌: «من‌ خویشاوند پدرت‌ و پسر ربكا هستم‌.» راحیل ‌دوید تا به ‌پدرش ‌خبر دهد.

And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

وقتی لابان‌ خبر آمدن ‌خواهر‌زاده‌اش ‌یعقوب‌ را شنید، به ‌استقبال ‌او دوید. او را در آغوش‌ كشید و بوسید و به ‌خانه‌ آورد. یعقوب ‌تمام‌ ماجرا را برای لابان ‌شرح‌ داد.

And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

لابان‌ گفت‌: «تو در حقیقت ‌از گوشت‌ و خون من ‌هستی‌.» یعقوب ‌مدّت ‌یک‌ ماه‌ در آنجا ماند.

And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?

لابان‌ به ‌یعقوب ‌گفت‌: «تو نباید به‌خاطر اینکه ‌خویشاوند من‌ هستی‌، برای من‌ مفت‌ كار كنی‌. چقدر مزد می‌خواهی؟»

And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

لابان دو دختر داشت. اسم دختر بزرگ لیه و اسم دختر كوچک راحیل بود.

Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.

مفهوم دقيق اين واژه در زبان عبری مشخص نیست داشت، ولی راحیل خوش اندام و زیبا بود.

And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

یعقوب ‌راحیل‌ را دوست‌ می‌داشت‌. بنابراین ‌به ‌لابان ‌گفت‌: «اگر اجازه‌ دهی با دختر كوچک‌ تو راحیل‌ ازدواج‌ كنم‌، هفت‌ سال‌ برای تو كار می‌كنم‌.»

And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.

لابان ‌در جواب ‌گفت‌: «اگر دخترم‌ را به‌ تو بدهم‌، بهتر از این‌ است‌ كه ‌به ‌دیگران‌ بدهم‌. همین‌جا پیش ‌من ‌بمان‌.»

And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

یعقوب ‌برای اینکه ‌با راحیل‌ ازدواج ‌كند، هفت‌ سال ‌در آنجا كار كرد. امّا چون‌ راحیل‌ را خیلی دوست ‌می‌داشت‌، این‌ مدّت‌ به ‌نظرش ‌مانند چند روز بود.

And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

بعد از این‌ مدّت ‌یعقوب ‌به ‌لابان ‌گفت‌: «وقت آن رسیده است. دخترت ‌را به ‌من ‌بده‌ تا با او عروسی كنم‌.»

And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

لابان‌ مجلس‌ عروسی برپا كرد و همهٔ ‌مردم ‌آنجا را دعوت‌ كرد.

And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.

امّا در آن‌ شب ‌لابان‌ به‌ جای راحیل‌، لیه ‌را به ‌یعقوب‌ داد و یعقوب ‌با او همخواب ‌شد.

And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid.

(لابان ‌كنیز خود زفله‌ را به‌ دخترش ‌لیه‌ بخشید.)

And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?

یعقوب ‌تا صبح‌ روز بعد نفهمید كه‌ این ‌لیه‌ است‌. صبح‌ كه‌ فهمید پیش ‌لابان ‌رفت ‌و به او گفت‌: «این‌ چه‌كاری بود كه ‌تو كردی‌؟ من‌ به‌خاطر راحیل‌ برای تو كار كردم‌. ولی تو مرا فریب ‌دادی‌.»

And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.

لابان‌ در جواب‌ گفت‌: «در بین ‌ما رسم‌ نیست ‌كه ‌دختر كوچک‌ را قبل ‌از دختر بزرگ‌ شوهر بدهیم‌.

Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

تا جشن ‌روز هفتم ‌عروسی صبر كن‌. من‌ راحیل‌ را هم‌ در مقابل ‌هفت‌ سال ‌دیگر كه ‌برای من ‌كار كنی به ‌تو می‌دهم‌.»

And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

یعقوب‌ قبول ‌كرد. بعد از اینکه ‌یک‌ هفته‌ گذشت‌، لابان ‌راحیل‌ را هم ‌به ‌یعقوب ‌داد.

And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.

(لابان‌ كنیز خود بلهه ‌را به ‌راحیل ‌بخشید.)

And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.

یعقوب ‌با راحیل ‌عروسی كرد و او را بیشتر از لیه ‌دوست‌ می‌داشت‌. یعقوب ‌به‌ خاطر راحیل‌ هفت‌ سال ‌دیگر برای لابان‌ كار كرد.

And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

چون خداوند دید كه ‌یعقوب ‌لیه ‌را كمتر از راحیل ‌دوست‌ دارد، به ‌لیه ‌قدرت ‌بچّه‌دار شدن‌ بخشید، ولی راحیل ‌نازا ماند.

And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.

لیه‌ آبستن ‌شد و پسری به دنیا آورد. او گفت‌: «خداوند ناراحتی مرا دیده‌ است‌. حالا شوهرم‌ مرا دوست‌ خواهد داشت‌.» بنابراین‌ اسم ‌بچّه ‌را رئوبین‌ گذاشت‌.

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.

لیه ‌باز هم‌ آبستن‌ شد و پسری زایید و گفت‌: «خداوند این ‌پسر را هم ‌به‌ من ‌داده ‌است ‌چونكه‌ می‌داند من ‌محبوب ‌شوهرم ‌نیستم‌.» پس ‌اسم ‌این‌ پسر را هم‌ شمعون ‌گذاشت‌.

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.

بار دیگر او آبستن‌ شد و پسر دیگری زایید. او گفت‌: «حالا شوهرم ‌به ‌من ‌دلبستگی بیشتری خواهد داشت‌ چون ‌پسری برای او زاییده‌ام‌.» پس ‌اسم‌ این ‌پسر را لاوی گذاشت‌.

And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.

او باز هم ‌آبستن ‌شد و پسر دیگری زایید و گفت‌: «این ‌بار خداوند را سپاس ‌خواهم‌ گفت‌.» اسم ‌این ‌پسر را یهودا گذاشت‌. لیه ‌بعد از این ‌دیگر آبستن ‌نشد.
