Acts 24

Sau đó năm ngày, có thầy cả thượng phẩm là A-na-nia đến, với vài người trưởng lão cùng một nhà diễn thuyết kia tên là Tẹt-tu-lu, trình đơn kiện Phao-lô trước mặt quan tổng đốc.

And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.

Phao-lô bị đòi đến rồi, Tẹt-tu-lu khởi sự cáo người như vầy:

And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,

Bẩm quan lớn Phê-lít, nhờ ơn quan mà chúng tôi được hưởng sự bình an trọn vẹn, và nhờ sự khôn ngoan của quan đổi được mọi tình tệ để giúp dân nầy, lúc nào và nơi nào chúng tôi cũng rất cảm tạ biết ơn quan vậy.

We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

Nhưng muốn cho khỏi phiền quan lâu hơn, thì tôi xin quan lấy lòng khoan nhơn mà nghe một vài lời chúng tôi nói đây.

Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.

Vậy, chúng tôi đã gặp người nầy, như là đồ ôn dịch, đã gây loạn trong hết thảy người Giu-đa trên cả thế giới: nó làm đầu phe người Na-xa-rét,

For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

cũng đã toan làm ô uế đền thờ, nên chúng tôi đã bắt nó và chúng tôi có muốn xử nó theo luật pháp chúng tôi.

Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

Nhưng quản cơ Ly-sia đến, bắt nó khỏi tay chúng tôi cách hung bạo,

But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,

truyền lịnh cho các người kiện nó hãy đến hầu quan. Xin chính quan hãy tự tra hỏi hắn, thì sẽ biết được mọi việc chúng tôi đang kiện cáo.

Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.

Ðến phiên các người Giu-đa cũng hùa theo lời đó, quyết rằng thật có như vậy.

And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

Quan tổng đốc ra dấu biểu Phao-lô nói đi, thì người thưa rằng: Tôi biết quan làm quan án trong nước nầy đã lâu năm, nên tôi dạn dĩ mà binh vực duyên cớ mình.

Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

Quan tra xét thì sẽ biết tôi vừa lên thành Giê-ru-sa-lem mà thờ lạy, chưa được mười hai ngày nay.

Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.

Người ta chẳng từng gặp tôi, hoặc trong đền thờ, hoặc trong nhà hội, hoặc trong thành phố, cãi lẫy cùng ai hay xui dân làm loạn bao giờ.

And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:

Bây giờ họ cũng chẳng biết lấy chi mà làm chứng cớ việc điều họ kiện tôi đó.

Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.

Trước mặt quan, tôi nhận rằng theo như đạo mà họ gọi là một phe đảng, tôi thờ phượng Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ tôi, tin mọi điều chép trong sách luật và các sách tiên tri;

But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

và tôi có sự trông cậy nầy nơi Ðức Chúa Trời, như chính họ cũng có vậy, tức là sẽ có sự sống lại của người công bình và không công bình.

And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

Cũng vì cớ ấy, nên tôi vẫn gắng sức cho có lương tâm không trách móc trước mặt Ðức Chúa Trời và trước mặt loài người.

And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

Vả, đã lâu năm nay tôi đi vắng, rồi mới về bố thí cho bổn quốc tôi và dâng của lễ.

Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.

Ðang khi ấy, có mấy người Giu-đa quê ở cõi A-si kia gặp tôi ở trong đền thờ, được tinh sạch, chớ chẳng có dân đông hay rối loạn chi.

Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

Nếu họ có điều gì kiện tôi, thì có lẽ đến hầu trước mặt quan mà cáo đi.

Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.

Hay là các người ở đây phải nói cho biết đã thấy tôi có sự gì đáng tội, lúc tôi đứng tại tòa công luận,

Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,

hoặc có, thì cũng chỉ trách câu tôi nói giữa họ rằng: Ấy vì sự sống lại của kẻ chết mà hôm nay tôi bị xử đoán trước mặt các ông.

Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

Phê-lít vẫn biết rõ ràng về đạo người nói đó, nên giãn việc kiện ra, mà rằng: khi nào quan quản cơ Ly-sia xuống, ta sẽ xét việc nầy.

And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.

Ðoạn, người truyền cho thầy đội giữ Phao-lô, nhưng phải cho người hơi được thong thả, có kẻ nào thuộc về người đến hầu việc người, thì đừng cấm.

And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.

Qua mấy ngày sau, Phê-lít với vợ mình là Ðơ-ru-si, người Giu-đa, đến, rồi sai gọi Phao-lô, và nghe người nói về đức tin trong Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ.

And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

Nhưng khi Phao-lô nói về sự công bình, sự tiết độ và sự phán xét ngày sau, thì Phê-lít run sợ, nói rằng: Bây giờ ngươi hãy lui; đợi khi nào ta rảnh, sẽ gọi lại.

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

Phê-lít cũng trông Phao-lô lót bạc cho mình; nên năng đòi người đến, và nói chuyện cùng người.

He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

Khỏi hai năm, Bốt-tiu Phê-tu đến thay Phê-lít. Bởi cớ Phê-lít muốn làm cho dân Giu-đa bằng lòng, bèn cứ giam Phao-lô nơi ngục.

But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
