Romans 3

Que vantagem, pois, tem o judeu? Ou qual o proveito da circuncisão?

What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?

Muito, em todo sentido; especialmente porque a eles foram confiados os oráculos de Deus.

Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

E daí se alguns deles não creram? Porventura a sua incredulidade anulará a fé de Deus?

For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

De modo nenhum; antes seja Deus verdadeiro, e todo homem mentiroso; como está escrito: Para que sejas justificado em tuas palavras, e venças quando fores julgado.

God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

Mas, se a nossa injustiça ressalta de maneira ainda mais clara a justiça de Deus, que diremos? Acaso é Deus injusto, por aplicar a sua ira? (Falo como homem.)

But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)

De modo nenhum; do contrário, como julgará Deus o mundo?

God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?

Mas, se a minha mentira ressalta a veracidade de Deus, para sua glória, por que sou eu ainda julgado como pecador?

For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?

E em vez disso (como alguns, caluniosamente, afirmam que dizemos): Pratiquemos males para que venham bens? A condenação destes é justa.

And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

Pois quê? Somos melhores do que eles? Não, de modo algum. Pois já demonstramos que, tanto judeus como gentios, todos estão debaixo do pecado;

What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

como está escrito: Não há nenhum justo, nem um sequer.

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Não há ninguém que entenda; ninguém que busque a Deus.

There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

Todos se extraviaram; juntamente se fizeram inúteis. Não há ninguém que faça o bem, não há nem um sequer.

They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

A sua garganta é um sepulcro aberto; com as suas línguas usam de engano; veneno de serpentes está debaixo dos seus lábios;

Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:

cuja boca está cheia de maldição e amargura.

Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

Os seus pés são ligeiros para derramar sangue.

Their feet are swift to shed blood:

Nos seus caminhos há destruição e miséria;

Destruction and misery are in their ways:

e não conheceram o caminho da paz.

And the way of peace have they not known:

Não há temor de Deus diante dos seus olhos.

There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Ora, nós sabemos que tudo o que a lei diz, o diz aos que estão debaixo da lei, para que toda boca se cale e todo o mundo seja culpável perante Deus.

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Porquanto pelas obras da lei nenhuma carne será justificada diante dele; pois mediante a lei há o conhecimento do pecado.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Mas agora, a justiça de Deus, sem a lei, é manifesta, testemunhada pela lei e pelos profetas;

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

isto é, a justiça de Deus, que é pela fé de Jesus Cristo, para todos e sobre todos os que creem; pois não há distinção.

Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Porque todos pecaram e destituídos estão da glória de Deus;

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

sendo justificados gratuitamente pela sua graça, mediante a redenção que há em Cristo Jesus,

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

o qual Deus propôs como propiciação, pela fé no seu sangue, para declarar a sua justiça para a remissão dos pecados passados, mediante a tolerância de Deus;

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

para declarar, neste tempo presente, a sua justiça, para que ele seja justo e também o justificador daquele que crê em Jesus.

To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Onde, então, está a jactância? Foi excluída. Por que lei? Das obras? Não; mas pela lei da fé.

Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

Concluímos pois que o homem é justificado pela fé, sem as obras da lei.

Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

É porventura Deus somente dos judeus? Não é também dos gentios? Também dos gentios, certamente,

Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

visto que Deus é um só, o qual justificará a circuncisão pela fé, e, mediante a fé, a incircuncisão.

Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

Anulamos, pois, a lei pela fé? De modo nenhum! Antes, estabelecemos a lei.

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
