Hebrews 12

Portanto, visto que nós também estamos rodeados de tão grande nuvem de testemunhas, deixemos de lado todo peso, e o pecado que tão de perto nos rodeia, e corramos com perseverança a carreira que nos está proposta,

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

olhando para Jesus, o autor e consumador da nossa fé, o qual, pela alegria que lhe estava proposta, suportou a cruz, desprezando a vergonha, e está assentado à direita do trono de Deus.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Considerai, pois aquele que suportou tamanha oposição dos pecadores contra si mesmo, para que não vos canseis, desmaiando em vossas almas.

For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Ainda não resististes até o sangue, combatendo contra o pecado;

Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

e já vos esquecestes da exortação que vos fala como a filhos: Filho meu, não desprezes a correção do Senhor, nem te desanimes quando és repreendido por ele;

And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

pois o Senhor corrige a quem ama, e açoita a todo filho a quem recebe.

For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Se sofreis correção, Deus vos trata como a filhos; pois qual é o filho a quem o pai não corrige?

If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Mas, se estais sem disciplina, da qual todos são participantes, então sois bastardos e não filhos.

But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

Além disto, tivemos nossos pais, segundo a carne, que nos corrigiram e os respeitávamos; e não nos sujeitaremos muito mais ao Pai dos espíritos, e viveremos?

Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

Pois eles, por pouco tempo, nos corrigiam como bem lhes parecia; ele, porém, para nosso proveito, para sermos participantes da sua santidade.

For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

Ora, nenhuma correção parece, no momento, ser motivo de alegria, mas sim de tristeza; depois, entretanto, ela produz o fruto de justiça pacífico, naqueles que têm sido por ela exercitados.

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Portanto levantai as mãos descaídas e os joelhos vacilantes,

Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

e fazei caminhos retos para os vossos pés, a fim de que não se desvie o que é manco, e sim que seja curado.

And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

Segui a paz com todos, e a santificação, sem a qual ninguém verá o Senhor.

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Tende cuidado para que ninguém fracasse da graça de Deus; para que nenhuma raiz de amargura, brotando, vos perturbe, e por ela muitos se contaminem;

Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

para que não haja nenhum fornicador, ou profano como Esaú, que por uma simples refeição vendeu o seu direito de primogenitura.

Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

Porque bem sabeis que, posteriormente, querendo ainda herdar a bênção, foi rejeitado; porque não achou lugar de arrependimento, ainda que o buscou diligentemente com lágrimas.

For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

Pois não tendes chegado ao monte palpável, que queimava com fogo, nem à escuridão, e trevas, e tempestade,

For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

e ao clangor da trombeta, e à voz das palavras, a qual os que a ouviram rogaram que não mais se lhes falasse;

And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:

porque não podiam suportar o que era ordenado: Se até um animal tocar o monte, será apedrejado, ou traspassado por uma flecha.

(For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:

E tão terrível era a visão, que Moisés disse: Fiquei aterrorizado e trêmulo!

And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)

Mas tendes chegado ao Monte Sião e à cidade do Deus vivo, a Jerusalém celestial, e incontáveis hostes de anjos;

But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

à assembleia geral e igreja dos primogênitos, que estão inscritos nos céus, e a Deus, o juiz de todos, e aos espíritos dos justos aperfeiçoados;

To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

e a Jesus, o mediador da nova Aliança, e ao sangue da aspersão, que fala coisas melhores do que o de Abel.

And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Tende cuidado, a fim de que não rejeiteis ao que fala; pois, se não escaparam os que rejeitaram ao que os advertia sobre a terra, muito menos escaparemos nós, se nos desviarmos daquele que dos céus nos adverte;

See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

cuja voz abalou então a terra; mas agora, ele promete, dizendo: Ainda mais uma vez abalarei não só a terra, mas também o céu.

Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

Ora, esta palavra, Ainda mais uma vez, significa a remoção das coisas abaladas, como coisas criadas, para que permaneçam as coisas inabaláveis.

And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Pelo que, recebendo nós um reino que não pode ser abalado, retenhamos a graça, pela qual sirvamos a Deus de modo agradável, com reverência e temor;

Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

porque o nosso Deus é um fogo consumidor.

For our God is a consuming fire.
